J.R. Rain is the author of 110 novels and counting. He lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest, where he's hard at work on his next novel... and fighting off sparkly vampires.
You will have a bunch of interesting short stories to read. It is nice diversion for a brief time. There is one from Santa about his wife leaving after leaving her behind. He is trying to find her so he calls a radio station. Then there is one about a washed up football star. He is named mad dog. He got a job that has him watching a different sport. That is just some of them.
These stories have JR Rains humor and way his way of story telling you will enjoy.
I received an complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I've been reading J.R. Rain's works for a while now and have always enjoyed them so yesterday I grabbed The Santa Call since it was free and I really enjoyed it. First of all, these short stories are short. They're much shorter than his normal work - for instance one of my favorite short stories in the collection called "Nature's Assassins" is barely over a page long. The rest are a little bit longer than that but don't let their length stop you from enjoying them. It starts with The Santa Call when Santa calls into a radio show to talk to The Love Doctor about repairing his marriage and was a funny and enjoyable story. Then you get a story about an Ex Football broadcaster who's down on his luck and having to cover racketball of all things. Next is an odd tale titled Behind the Shower Curtain about a prank gone wrong. Natures Assassins is my 2nd favorite tale in this book. It's a fun read which should hit home with nature lovers everywhere and finally we come to my favorite: a magical tale called The Gift of the Magi which truly shows off Mr. Rain's writing chops. The last tale is based off of an old tale (I think) and is a beautiful story in it's own right written with a great deal of flourish and wisdom. J.R. Rain has never disappointed me and I eagerly look forward to each new tale he has to tell whether short or long.
On the last story, (not written by jr) the first 3 lines are not possible. You can not have $1.87 and have (only) 60 pennies :) Great short stories- as always. I am a big fan!
This is a weird collection of stories. two are about Christmas I enjoyed those however mixed and our stories about sports and other random shorts. I wish they had flowed together better.
