She Said

Rate this book
Mia Kennedy is a student at Holy Spirit High School with a loving family and a large group of friends. Robert Harris is a divorced trucker who works long and tough hours on the road, alone and desolate. Following one fateful night at a bar on George Street, St. John’s, the two become entangled in a forbidden relationship.

Mia accuses Robert of four occurrences of sexual assault, and their relationship is dissected and put under a microscope during a three-week trial.

Is their union borne out of love? False pretenses? Violation? Spanning several years, She Said offers an intimate look into both Mia and Robert, the people in their lives who helped shape who they are, and how they came to a three-week trial at the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Fast paced, quick read. However I found too many characters, and the background on some seemed unnecessary.

3.5⭐ rounded up.
I enjoyed this. It was a quick read and a good story. I liked the different povs, it helped the reader put the story together. I skipped over all the legal talk because it really didn't make any difference to the story in the end.

Update... I still have an unanswered question that has been nagging at me. Why did the accused get divorced? It seems the author made a point of bringing it up multiple times and even had the ex wife saying how great of a guy he was. So what happened?

While some parts were unnecessary and the repetition of turning on the balls if their feet was annoying- overall it was an excellent story- and a great first novel by a young g Newfoundland author. A perfect case of he said, she said and the case that leads to a dramatic conclusion.

Not a fan. I did like the fact it was a local story by a local Newfoundlander but I didn't love the characters and I found the courtroom chapters way to technical, it was like reading a textbook at times.

Really enjoyed this book! It’s a tough subject to write about but I thought it was written in a way that still showed how serious of a subject it was.
