Knowing the Bible

Mark: A 12-Week Study

Rate this book
"A tremendous resource for those wanting to study and teach the Bible with an understanding of how the gospel is woven throughout Scripture." ―Bryan Chapell, Pastor, Grace Presbyterian Church The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on every page of the Bible. The Gospel of Mark paints an important portrait of Jesus as Israel’s promised Messiah. Mark’s account also makes clear how Jesus’ kingship confounds public expectations by emphasizing his humility, suffering, and sacrifice. This accessible guide is filled with wise reflections on the biblical text and helps us understand what vibrant faith and authentic discipleship look like as we follow a rejected king.

This is a great study that does a phenomenal job of breaking down so many aspects of the gospel of Mark that I've missed. There are so many references to the OT that I'd never considered and having this manual while studying made for a very engrossing experience.

I did this in less than 12 weeks, but also our Church is doing Mark in more than 12 weeks so I don't think that matters. Regardless, good thoughts brought out and some practical application questions too.

This is a great study on a gospel that you might be familiar with but haven’t studied deeper.

Kinda disappointing, the inductive questions were difficult to understand or apply.

Did this study with my Church. Good to learn more about Mark. The questions can be a little convoluted and contain multiple questions at times.
