[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Romance, M/M, public exhibition, light consensual BDSM, light spanking, HEA] Brooks Price loves a challenge. So when a frenemy dares him to sleep with a dorky, over-tall film major, Brooks amps up his considerable charm. Matt Porter can't guess why Brooks is flirting with him. Raised religious, Matt doesn't believe in sex before relationships. Unfortunately, Brooks is all about sex, and Matt doubts Brooks is interested in anything else. Slowly, Brooks chips away at Matt's armor-taking him on dates, asking for kisses, holding hands-baby steps, none of which Matt can resist or refuse. However, when Brooks pushes too far, Matt freaks out. Despite his stoic exterior, Matt's painfully conflicted over his sexuality-scared of his darker desires, worried about hurting Brooks. The pair explores boundaries, but when things turn rough and Matt unleashes his inner wants, he doesn't know if he can overcome his shame about sex in order to be with the man he's growing to love. ** A Siren Erotic Romance

3 ½ stars. Slightly above average. It kept my interest, but it wasn’t as good as the first book in the series.

There are several explicit sex scenes including rear door activity. They were pretty good, but not as good as in the first book. The story and characters were not interesting enough - for me. Matt keeps running away because he fears his urges. And he won’t tell Brooks why.

STORY BRIEF:
Brooks has a promiscuous reputation, having sex with almost everyone. Matt was raised in a religious community where almost anything sexual was a sin. He is in turmoil about sex. On top of that his urges are to dominate, hit, cause pain, and call his mate vulgar terms. He thinks something’s wrong with him. In the beginning Brooks approaches Matt on a bet. Then he becomes sincerely attracted to Matt. Matt doesn’t want casual sex. He wants a relationship first, and Brooks is willing to wait. So they date.

It’s about a fourth the length of a typical novel.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Kindle count story length: 1,897 (518 KB). Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: about 8. Setting: current day mostly Vermont. Copyright: 2012. Genre: erotic gay male contemporary romance.

Having come into this series right in the middle with book #3 I will say that this is my favorite of the series, but I'm not sure if that counts for much. PLAYER AND THE PRUDE is about Matt and Brooks. We (at least I) met them in book 3. Matt is Gabe's roommate, Gabe went on a couple of dates with Brooks.

So Brooks is the player because he's a bit of a manwhore, what with his rugged good looks, always dressed in the latest fashion and coming from a rich family. Matt is the complete opposite. He's geeky, really tall, maybe without the fashion sense gene. Brooks "best friend" challenges him to get with Matt and Brooks never backs down from a challenge.

I think what I loved the most about the connection between these two was the fact that Brooks was able to put down that mask he had to wear with others around him. He was just himself, enjoying what he enjoyed and not feeling bad about it. It was a process of discovery for both and not the "oh I'm gay" variety. Brooks realized that the life he was leading was probably not the one that would make him happy. Matt learned that after the oppression mentality that was ingrained in him and how he grew up, he had to let things go and enjoy life for what it was. Taking pleasure and also accepting the pain that goes along with it. They both had a great attitude to the changes that had to be made.

And of course I can't leave out that it was hot, right? Matt is a virgin but he has what he considers bad thoughts about Brooks. He wants to spank him, slap him, choke him, tie him down, rough him up. And after his internal battles he manages to do all that. The rough sex scene after he throws Brooks against the wall......'nuff said.

As usual, I guess my complain is the I love yous, and in this case the lets get married way too soon in a relationship. Although at least this book did seem to span a longer period of time than the previous book so I guess the relationship building was behind the pages, but I would've liked to see more of it to make the ending fit with the story for me.

Daisy Harris takes a pretty tired trope in dating someone on a bet and writes a complex love story that will make you so happy for Matt and Brooks. My favorite part is there is minimal drama over the discovery of the bet.

Brooks is a lot like an 80's John Hughes rich jerk until he is not. We learn all his layers and it is really work it.

Matt is great. A love a tall nerd. I love the internal struggles to become fully comfortable with himself.

They have a great sexy slow seduction love story.

I loved the beginning, and it was nice to get another view of Brooks (he was always so grumpy whenever he popped up in the last book). Matt was interesting, the way he ended up quite different from what I had expected, even though it wasn't exactly my cup of tea
Looking forward to reading about Hunter the Ahole!

I love the men of Holsum College. There is something so fun, so RIGHT about them, even when they are fighting inner battles. This may be my absolute favorite couple so far. While their beginning was very non-romantic, it morphs into a chance for Brooks to step away from his slutty, sort of selfish persona and become, in his words, a better man. And he is successful at that.
It is Hunter, a completely spoiled, self-absorbed jerk, who makes the bet with Brooks while they are busy bitching about having to do community service as part of their college requirement- $500 that Brooks can’t sleep with the nerdy, quiet Matt. That Brooks accepts shows what kind of man he was. At that point, he couldn’t even really remember Matt’s name. Brooks claimed Hunter’s way of trying to psyche him out or get the upper hand bugged him, yet he fell into the trap over and over. Granted, some of it was Matt’s social climbing obnoxious mother wanted Hunter’s families contacts, but still! Brooks was, in Matt’s words, “like a public toilet – everyone had sat on him at some point”. I LOVED that description!
Matt made the book for me. He was raised uber-religious and taught that not only was being gay cause for going to hell, but even touching yourself is a perversion. How does a person reconcile this with not only wanting other men, but having the inner yearning to be dominant, to talk dirty, to go all out with sex. He has so much shame for his thoughts, you want to scoop him up and reassure him, “you are normal, all right and it’s okay”. Even when Matt is just touching himself, he feels guilt and shame over what he wants.
Matt has never dated, never done anything. Never had a kiss, for that matter. When Brooks does take him for a “date”, they go to the Art Museum for an erotic exhibit. Matt is angry about that, but does go. When the combination of the scintillating pictures, the proximity to Brooks, and the constant rubbing of his erection on his jeans (“Matt thought he was going to have to shove his pants off and hump something”), there is a scene in the bathroom that shows that just maybe Brooks has some hope to be worthy of Matt.
An interesting aspect of this story is as it progresses, Brooks starts to lose sight of the fact that it was a bet that started it all. He moves so slowly with Matt, giving him space, respect and time. He is amazing at that point, and poor Matt, he’s trying so very hard to accept himself. Together the two of them do this dance through their baggage and come out victorious.
There are just so many parts I loved, Matt admitting for the first time that he was ashamed and Brooks being moved to tears; Matt admitting what he wants in bed and being accepted by Brooks; the way Brooks handles Matt’s inexperience and insecurities. The topic of the bet does come up, poor baby. They are just so perfect for each other, and they would never have thought it. Just lovely.

Brooks is well known around campus for being a little bit of a slapper. When a frenemy bets him that he can’t seduce Matt, one of the campus good-boys, he willingly accepts the terms. There is no way that Matt is going to give it up easily; this is going to take some wooing. But Brook has never had to let anyone this close to him to get them into bed; will he really be able to treat Matt as a emotionless screw to win a bet?

Matt has been brought up with strict religious beliefs. He doesn’t believe in sex without love and remains a virgin even though the majority of his friends are not. There is another reason why Matt has never let anyone get close to him intimately; he needs kink in the bedroom. His desires sicken him and he worries that he will hurt the person in his bed because of them.

When Brooks starts to flirt with him, Matt doesn’t quite know what is going on. Unable to resist, he allows him to date him and get closer than anyone has before. But they are heading down a road that ends at a bed; will Matt be able to come to terms with his sexuality and allow himself to consummate their relationship?

I’m a little behind on this series but I do so love it. The Holsum College series is a lovely MM series following the lives and loves of the gay populace of the local college. In each separate book, there has been a very different story to tell. This one is possibly the kinkiest one as it has BDSM themes. I say it has themes as, although Matt is blatantly a Dominant, Brook is not a submissive. The exploration of the dynamics of the sexual relationship is only briefly touched upon in this novella, but I feel that is in fitting with the overall theme of the series.

I enjoyed the struggle that Matt had in marrying his beliefs with all aspects of his sexuality. I’m sure there are many people with religious beliefs who face similar problems. Yes, Matt had more issues because he wanted to dominate too. I loved it and I really wanted to give him a massive hug throughout his tale. My heart bled for him because I couldn’t imagine having to hide my true identity from anyone.

I’ll admit, I was dubious about this being Brooks’s story simply because he wasa bit of a douche in another story. When this tale started with a bet, my heart sank because I hate douchy hero’s. Surprisingly, he changed it round and I loved him by the end. The way he supported and encouraged Matt throughout made me want to give a him a big kiss. He became a hero I enjoyed.

Overall, this is a fabulous addition to a fantastic series. I loved these two men and actively cheered for their HEA. A sweet, slightly kink read which made me feel all warm and gooey inside.

This book was really unexpected with it's darker side. This wasn't focused on happy-go-lucky college students, it dealt with deeper issues.

As the title suggests, the main characters are opposites to each other in terms of their views towards sex and experiences.

Brooks is very much out for a good time. He has no qualms with the casual hook up. A bet results in him trying his charms on Matt.

Matt has had a religious upbringing and feels tremendous guilt over his sexuality, "He could hear his mother's voice in his mind, telling him he was sick and perverted, his father's voice telling him he was disgusting and going to hell." and compounded by his darker desires "He heard their laughter and happy whispers through the door at night. He knew neither one of them ever harbored the type of dark thoughts he did. Or had been wracked by sick obsessions."

Brooks takes things really slow with Matt in his quest to get him into bed but in doing so, comes to know the man. It is wonderful to watch him change into a man who not only loves Matt, but stands up for him. Matt, with Brooks gentle touch and acceptance, does come out of his shell - it's almost like they meet in the middle with Brooks curbing his casual hook up and committing to one man and Matt accepting that sex outside of marriage is okay.

However, and it's a big 'however', I don't think Matt's sexual desires were fully resolved. Was the sexual aggression and violence as portrayed in the book, as far as Matt would go? Did he really know his own limits?

Of course the big, romantic, happy ending was perfect - I just parked my concerns about the rough play and assumed they would live happily ever after!

3.5 stars

This review was originally written for The Romance Reviews and can also be found there.

PLAYER AND THE PRUDE is the closest to the first book in this series when it comes to the actual plot as well as the amount of eroticism. I loved it from the first chapter to the last and wouldn't think twice before recommending it.

It all started with a bet where Brooks took on the challenge of bedding the awkward and badly dressed Matt. The push into their lives is really sudden and there is no time for a break because the story keeps on moving and Brooks slowly falling in love is a thing of beauty.

I saw this book as a romantic beginning of something extraordinary between two men who were very different but who just didn't much care. Another thing I appreciated because there were no money issues and the opinions of their parents had no influence on their relationship. Matt's growth from a shy religiously raised man to someone who isn't afraid to admit his kinks and act on them thrilled me beyond words and their sex life spurred my own. Yes, it happens when the book is just that good.

The only remark would be the slow ending that somehow didn't quite follow the intensity of the rest of the book. I still liked it and enjoyed the couple's encounters, but maybe I expected too much out of the conclusion and Daisy Harris decided to take it easy instead. Either way, this fourth book in the Men of Holsum College series is something well worth reading, even if you haven't read any of the other books in the series.

Now this is what I'm talking about! I had been getting a little disappointed with this series because the previous two books didn't match the potential I saw in the first. But, Player and the Prude threw all my expectations out the window and gave me a fascinating story that kept me up late into the night. As a warning, this is much darker than the other Holsum College novellas and I really enjoyed that aspect. The authors plays around with some different, more controversial themes in this book and I think the gamble paid off.

Readers first met Brooks and Matt in the previous book, Townie and the Twink, Matt being Gabe's roommate and Brooks being Gabe's occasional lover. Based on the last book, I wasn't sure if I would like Brooks. His arrogant, pampered personality was a little jarring at first, but his transformation to devoted lover was a great thing to read about. And then there's Matt and I fell in love with him from the first pages of his narration. Matt is a poorly dressed, overly tall student who had a difficult childhood with his narrow-mind hometown and family. His journey to confidence with his sexuality and his trust in Brooks was dramatic, but worth the price by the end.

Brooks and Matt are a wonderful couple! Even though they appear to be polar opposites in personality, they provide balance and devotion for one another. Some of my favorite scenes involved Brooks reassuring Matt of his true feelings for me and him taking his time with the more sexual side of the relationship. This book made me run the gamut of emotions from anger to tears to joy and that, for me, is the sign of a great read!

I do believe that Matt and Brooks just took over as my favorite couple of this series. I find that slightly ironic considering I did not want to like Brooks when I began this installment of the Men of Holsum College series. His initial thoughts and opinions of Matt are harsh and the reason he began talking to him in the first place is beyond cruel.

Matt was tough to read at times. His thoughts and feelings about his own sexuality and his desires are harsh. He thinks he is perverted, he believes that his own fantasies are terribly dark and should stay bottled up and never known. The beliefs he was taught growing up did not help his thoughts on his sexuality in any way.

Brooks began as a character I didn’t want to like. I thought Matt deserved better than a man whore. My opinion started changing about him quickly though. It turns out Matt and Brooks are good for each other. I think Brooks also didn’t have a good opinion about his own self. The bathroom scene at the art exhibit let readers see how this player can have a low opinion of himself.

Matt and Brooks are an opposites attract couple. They can often be the most enjoyable to read in my opinion. Matt and Brooks did not disappoint in that regard. Matt knows he wants Brooks, he also knows all about Brooks reputation, thus Matt doesn’t want to be used for just a hook up. Brooks has always been into just sexing, with Matt he starts seeing that there is more than just the physical.

Matt Porter is struggling with being raised with a religious background, being gay and dating, along with wanting to Dominate his new boyfriend, Brooks Prince. Matt is such a quiet, nice guy that I instantly fell in love with him. Then as the book progressed, Matt starts to think of these deliciously wicked things he wants to do Brooks and my heart melts. “He wanted to love Brooks, to be loved in return. Not treat him like a filthy slut — the way his torrid imagination wanted.” I must say Matt’s torrid imagination is a joy to read.

Brooks has a few issues of his own he’s dealing with, his mom is a pushy social climber wanting him to make important friends and one of those friends in particular starts to put a strain on his relationship with Matt. Just like Matt, Brooks has to stand up for what he wants and it’s so sexy when he does; taking up for his man, declaring Matt as his.

The thing about this series that I love is; it’s not typical romance per se, it’s more lust turned infatuation that leads to I’m falling in love with you and no matter the obstacles we face I’m not letting the best thing that has ever happened to me get away.

This book is also the start of a hardcore D/s, BDSM relationship. Of the four books so far I would love to see where Matt and Brooks go next the most, I can just visualize the filthy, dirty things they would do to each other as they grow together. Yumm.

I really really liked this one. More like 4.5 stars, but I told myself I wouldn't give half stars anymore so I'm giving it 5.

Re-read 2/14: Still liked it, but I don't know if I'd give it 5 stars again.

Re-read 5/17: Yeah, not sure why I thought this was 5 stars. There's really not that much relationship development. I think I'm just a sucker for this trope, and of course the end is up my alley. But ultimately... there's really not much here. 3 stars.

Okay story, but the whole domination aspect isn't really my thing at all.

Matt's thoughts about hurting Brooks, physically or verbally, really squicked me out and I was looking for a Fast Forward button more times than not when that stuff came up. I wasn't really hoping for more pages when I finally read "The End".

This was my least favorite of the Holsum College series so far. Hoping Ms. Harris worked out that whole BDSM deal in this one book, because I found it more distracting and uncomfortable than anything else and would rather not have to go there again.

Not at all what I expected. Daisy Harris’ PLAYER AND THE PRUDE is not as vapid as the title sounds. This is a seriously good romance with very well developed characters. And the important thing is the characters are not stereotypical in their title roles of player and prude.

Full review can be seen at Seductive Musings.

Brooks is a member of the lacrosse team. Holsum College requires sports teams to do community service so his team is spending the day packing boxes of food under the supervision of an uptight and slightly dorky guy named Matt. Brooks and one of his teammates decide to make the day a bit more interesting by placing a wager on whether Brooks can get Matt into bed. Brooks is getting into so much more than he bargained for with this bet!

Just in case you didn’t figure it out by now, Brooks is a total slut and makes no secret of it. Brooks spends his time at college doing three things: getting an education, having a good time, and creating the network of friends which will provide the social standing he needs when he graduates. Matt seems to be completely opposite, he keeps to himself, studies hard and doesn’t sleep around.

Once you get under the surface though, Matt and Brooks have some strong similarities. They both need to figure out how to accept themselves for who they are and gain some self-respect. Matt was raised in a strictly religious environment and has some sexual hangups and self conflict because of it. As a gay man, Matt’s religious upbringing has led to some confusion for him when it comes to sexual relationships. One thing he is quite clear on is that sex is special and should be reserved for relationships, not casual hook ups. Not so clear to him are his fantasies. Matt gets off on fantasies of dominating a lover. He can’t reconcile in his mind that he could love someone and also want to cause them physical pain at the same time. He sees himself as warped and because of that has not allowed himself any romantic relationships. He’s never even kissed a guy. Brooks appears to have it all, he’s wealthy, good looking and popular. His parents have stressed the importance of connecting and maintaining friendships with important people, one such person is his lacrosse teammate. The teammate is the son of a senator. In an effort to maintain that friendship, Brooks allows himself to be controlled, belittled and disrespected even though he hates every minute of it.

Anyway, what starts off as a simple wager becomes much more complicated. Matt makes it clear that he won’t be party to a casual sexual encounter, he’s looking for a relationship. Brooks is forced to put some serious effort into getting to know Matt. As they get to know each other they are both surprised at how much they like the other and a true romance begins. As their relationship develops, Brooks notices that Matt is holding part of himself back and wants to know why. The question becomes, will Brooks still want to be with him once Matt lets him in on his darkest fantasies?

I have come to expect certain things when I pick up a book in The Men of Holsum College series. I expect a fun and light hearted book with steamy sex scenes and interesting guys. Player and the Prude was a departure from that, it was darker and more intense.

I liked Matt and Brooks and the dynamics of their relationship. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I connected with their conflicted emotions and self-doubt. That allowed me to be pulled into the story on a much deeper level than I expected. I loved how genuine their reactions were to events as they were coming to terms with themselves. The level of understanding and acceptance between Brooks and Matt was absolute perfection. I was thrilled to see a relationship where seeming opposites come together and completely get each other in a way so few couples do. Player and the Prude is very well done and a great addition to the series.

I have a tumultuous relationship with this series. I absolutely adored book one, College Boys, but felt after that one things steadily went down hill. I liked book two, Diva and The Frat Boy, but I wasn’t wowed by it. Book three, Townie and The Twink, came right on its heels and I wasn’t feeling that one at all. At the end of book three I wasn’t sure I would continue with the series. In the past Harris has always redeemed herself with follow up books so I made myself a promise to check out book four and then if two in a row didn’t work for me, I’d call it quits. I’m glad I made that promise to myself because I really liked Player and The Prude!

I instantly liked Matt and his awkward sense of self. I found him to be believable which is a quality I think the last few books were lacking. Matt, being raised by a religious family was torn between his life as a gay young man and his biblical upbringing. He found a semi happy medium with holding on to the one aspect of his religion he had some control over, his virginity. He seemed at times to be at odds with himself. The opinions of his fanatical parents and those like them seemed to leak into his brain unannounced. I liked his internal struggle and thought that in the end, staying true to himself, was exactly what he needed.

Brooks was a bit of a harder sell for me. He’s your typical frat boy, jock type with his over the top personality. I wanted to dislike him on principle alone. I hated guys like him. Brooks grew on me because he was all bark and no bite. He acted like he did in a attempt to fit in with the a particular crowd of guys. Mainly the rich ones. Underneath it all his feelings and desires were just like every one else. Sure his bet that he could bag Matt was a touch “She’s All That” but still, it made for a good plot. Brooks took the time to show Matt that he could let go of his past and move forward with the future he was meant to have.

Brooks and Matt are wonderful together. I enjoyed their slow warm up and thought it worked much better then the typical fast moving gay couples I read about. It annoys me to read of gay men being all so promiscuous. I don’t have a ton of knowledge in the area but I assume it works just like heterosexual couples. There are sluts and there are traditional. I tire of reading about the sluts. The gay that seem to bang anything with the correct parts. I want the same emotional connection I read of other books and while I don’t think I totally got it in this book I will say it was a step in the right direction.

I look forward to book number five, which is already in my TBR pile!

I give Player and The Prude by Daisy Harris 4 stars!

Brooks starts off the popular smartass guy, highly experienced in the sex department and someone who has it all, including his own problems. His mother is pushy, pushing a relationship with Hunter, to secure a fast track in climbing higher in society.

Matt is quiet and withdrawn, with no experience in the sex department. Being brought up in a very religious home, he is having a hard time coming to terms with thoughts in his head of dominance over another male.

What starts out as a bet between Brooks and Hunter quickly turns into more.
The progression of Matt and Brooks relationship is amazing.
It doesn't jump right into being in love or having sex, they take their time, they grow together, over coming their problems.

The sex in this book is unlike the other 3 books. It hot, heavy, hard, rough animalistic kinky sex!

When i started this and seen that Brooks was the main, i'll admit, i wasn't too thrilled.
He came across like a complete jerk in book 3.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much my opinion changed about him.

Can not wait to start the 5th book :)

I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. The blurb with all of its references to violence and then the less-positive reviews made me leery. I actually considered skipping this one and just moving on to the next in the series, and I'm so glad I didn't! This may actually be my favorite of the series so far--and I didn't think any could top the first!

I didn't really like Brooks from book 3, so I wasn't very excited to read his story. I ADORED getting to watch his transformation in this book. And it wasn't a magical "poof! I'm in love, I'll be perfect now" transformation, either. It was beautifully paced and perfectly believable. And Brooks became my new favorite character of this series. I loved getting to watch his realizations that life didn't have to be like his mother and Hunter wanted him to think it had to be. Getting to watch him want to be a better person, and then want to be the person Matt needed him to be... amazing.

I've mentioned in my other reviews how impressed I've been with Ms. Harris's ability to create believable, realistic characters and that's never been more true than in this book. Both Brooks and Matt were not only believable, but sympathetic. I could understand where they both were coming from, and I was rooting for them as fiercely as I've ever rooted for any fictional couple.

I think my favorite thing about the book is how both Brooks and Matt became better, more confident, more settled and stable people because of their relationship.

I love that Ms. Harris's books often read as fascinating character studies as well as entertaining romance novellas. I can't help but wonder what she'd be able to accomplish with a longer format. Either way, I love what she does, and can't wait to start #5!

Review to come.Daisy Harris continues her Men of Holsum college series with what I think is the strongest installment to date.

The story follows the popular and carefree Brooks as he sets his sights on Matt, the tall, awkward roommate of an ex-hookup. The conquest actually starts as a dare, but Brooks is legitimately attracted to Matt, so it quickly becomes more than that.

Matt is struggling to accept his wants and desires. He was raised in a strict Christian home that was very sexually repressed. He has shed some of his hang-ups. He acknowledges that he is gay and wants to be with men. But he still believes that sex should be part of a real relationship and not some casual thing between strangers. Beyond that, his sexual fantasies are darker than he feels comfortable with. He wants to dominate Brooks and thinks himself perverted for it.

I loved that because of Matt's values, a real connection is given time to form between these two. Yes, it happens off page, but I am totally ok with that. The fact that they spent weeks kissing and hanging out made their trust level and emotional connection so much more believable. Matt has some serious self-loathing about his BDSM inclinations and Brooks really is understanding and supportive of his needs.

I'm generally not a BDSM fan, but I understood Matt's confusion and shame and it endeared him to me. There was one scene that made me a little uncomfortable when Matt mistakes Brooks for an intruder and is turned on by attacking him. But for the most part, I was down with the evolution of their relationship, both in and out of the bedroom. Both characters were well developed and each did a lot of growing over the course of the story... so by the time we reached the end, I believed in their HEA.

I’m hopelessly addicted to this series. In my opinion each book is getting better and better as the series continues. Ms. Harris seems to have really found her stride with each book. Every one of them reads fresh and unique and all of them have characters that seem to really live and breathe off of the written page.

Since the blurb does an excellent job of describing the story, I won’t rehash it very much. I’ve read several books with this type of scenario before. Man is dared to ask quiet man out, takes dare, eventually gets quiet man to go out with him and in the process falls in love. The one thing that’s really great about this book is: even though the plot is one I’ve read before, it still read creatively interesting and fresh. Daisy really puts her own spin on a well-loved tale and makes it her own with her bold and remarkable voice.

Both Matt and Brooks are well-written interesting heroes. I liked how even though at first they seemed to be total opposites, early on it’s easy to see how compatible they are together. I liked how they really began to like and respect each other AND the physical chemistry between them was smokin’ hot! Each man brought out the best in each other and in general, I really adored them as a couple.

Ms. Harris also captures the ins and outs of college life making this book and series an even more fun book to read. I love all of her characters in this series and I can’t wait to read the next book! If you are looking for a fun, flirty and very sexy series about young men and how they survive life on a college campus, The Holsum series is definitely the books for you! Highly Recommended!

Here are the Men of Holsum College books in series order:

College Boys
Diva and the Frat Boy
Townie and the Twink
Player and the Prude
Bossy and the Brat

Books like Player and the Prude are the reason I hate a five star rating scale and would prefer a six star. Because I had a couple of problems with this book andit was slightly a let down, therefore not truly strong three stars like the prevous two, but no way a two star either.

For the sake of clarification, if I were to pretend that there was a 6 star rating, College Boys would be five and the next two four, while this would comfortably slide to the three star slot.

Player and the Prude as a mere title got me all wound up, because as far as set ups go, that is pretty close to perfection for me. And I think I would've enjoyed this particular book a lot more had I not read the previous ones, or at least read them back to back.

With series there is always the danger of inconcistency and that is understandable, but here it began to bug me. In Townie and the Twink Gabe found the idea of fucking Brooks repulsive and here he was all about how good he was in bed. Nick ahd suddenly issues with Brooks, which he didn't have before and for a guy who'd earlier been adamant about hooking up with only poeple he at least liked he changed his mind kinda quickly.

My main issue, though, was that I got this déjà vu while reading and realized that the characters morph into repetition of Chris and Peter, which must be the reason why book one is still my favorite from the series and that never happens if there are altering main couples. I alwasy love the MC who started out as minor characters.

Still, overall I'm enjoying the series enough to go and buy the next one right away, which is saying something. And it's only natural that there are parts that some readers don't find as strong as the others.

My Review:
I have adored this series, but after the original book, this one is definitely my favorite of the four released so far. I loved Matt and Brooks and I NEVER thought I would be saying that from what I had seen of Brooks in the other books!

The title of this is so perfect. Brooks is most definitely the player. He's the man-slut on campus...sleeping with anyone without any regard to anyone but himself. He's a rich, self-involved guy...until he meets Matt. Matt grew up in North Dakota to a very conservative family. Being gay in his world is bad enough, but this is a guy who likes a bit of kink and he's doing everything he can to curb those urges because that is simply not how he was raised.

I loved how Brooks handled Matt. Matt is huge....6'5" and he's more than a little worried about hurting Brooks, but Brooks is a jock who plays lacrosse. He's not a wimp...and is 6' himself. He pushes Matt when Matt needs the push just to loosen up his hang-ups. Brooks is scared to death of losing Matt, so he does what he has to just to ensure Matt knows he can handle anything he throws at him. Did I mention how much I loved these guys together??? *gah* I really did!!!

Brooks has enough experience to know how to push Matt. And Matt is just all-around a nice guy who makes Brooks want to be a better person. I love how they just work and how much they both love each other. They are both serious Alphas, but I love the way they make that work for them. It's seriously sexy and fun and just a truly romantic read. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED their story!!!

And dang....did you see that cover?? OMG, HOT!! Definitely the best cover of the series....and so perfect for these two guys!

I really enjoyed this book and the dynamics between Brooks and Matt. What started off as a bet Brooks agreed to with frenemy, Hunter, turns into something he wasn't expecting. Brooks is the "player" on campus with many casual hookups and Hunter makes a bet about wheher Brooks will be able to convice Matt to have sex with him. Matt doesn't believe in having sex unless it's within a relationship and he's also afraid due to having thoughts of domination during sex. They start spending time together and start exploring sexually. Brooks started off as a jerk but then becomes a different person as his feelings for Matt develops and their relationship gets more serious. He is a more likeable character as he realizes he's falling in love but that could change once Matt overhears Hunter discussing the bet that initially got them together. Brooks will have to prove his love for Matt is real. I enjoyed the unexpected aspect of Matt being the more aggresive and sexually dominant as opposed to Brooks who would seem to be the obvious one since he has the "reputation" when it comes to sex. I rooted for them to realize what they had was real and that they could have a future together. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

what i loved most about this book is the commitment these two make to each other. It is the first one to see this although Chris and peter commit to each other but not so much like this. these two make plans.

Matt is this ex religious man who is still scared of himself and his thoughts. His upbringing has mad him this way. You can’t blame him for he was brought up in a highly religious setting. But he is a nice guy that just needs a take the bulls by the horns type of guy. This is where Brooks comes in.

Brooks is your all around popular guy. Popular in more ways than one. This is good for Matt because he can put him at ease. Bad because he can also scare Matt. As the two get to know one another you see a bond that helps them both become better people. They are opposites but still what is needed in each others lives to put calm and purpose in them.

A fun read that will have you laughing at some of the antics Brooks does although at one point you do want to smack him upside the head. Their story is fun though. Again still partial to peter and chris.
