Bitov, tanimadigi bu ülkenin kendisi için bir okul gibi olacagini fark edip, seyahatnamelerde hiç görülmemis bir üslupla, eserini "ders" basliklari altinda kurguladi. Andrei Georgiyevich Bitov is the author of Pushkin House, Captive of the Caucasus, and The Monkey Link, among other works. He is a cofounder of the Russian PEN club and has received numerous awards and honors, including being named a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. He lives in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Rarely you come across really «delicious» books, books that open with a whole palette of colours. The novel «Lessons of Armenia» has become just such a book for me.

It was read a few years ago, but still causes a feeling of warmth and comfort.

The author conquers the land where he arrived on a business trip, and the reader watches this nascent love from the first pages. During the reading, you yourself mentally climb the ancient steps, observe the greatness of nature and feel the taste of Armenian bread in your tongue, feel the culture and customs of another people, the wisdom of the elder, the affectionate submission of the Armenian beauty. After reading the book, I couldn’t want to see everything myself (IGNORE THE FACT THAT I ALREADY LIVE IN ARMENIA).

The author’s syllable is very light, read in one breath, leaving a long aftertaste

Писать не хочется, но писать необходимо — так рождаются вымученные произведения. Что мог Андрей Битов рассказать про десятидневное пребывание в Армении? Сам он говорит, что ничего толкового сказать не может. А сказать надо! Поэтому в течение двух лет он писал «Уроки Армении». Не преследуя целей, просто излагая мысли, Битов создал работу, отчего-то считающуюся важной. Понять причины того просто, достаточно ознакомиться с елейным восхищением от армянской культуры и упоминанием геноцида. Во всём остальном Битов остался критичен.

Bitov travels Armenia for the very first time. He writes down the few things he gets to know from the frog's eye perspective. He doesn't even try to deliver a complete overview about the country and its complicated history. Bitov admits that he was writing more of Russia and himself during the contemplating. The result is a profund text with very strong moments of poetic views.
