4.5 rounded up to 5!
God. This trilogy was just something else actually. I finished it all in a couple of weeks, and it was actually such a nice trilogy to start the year with.
WHAT I LOVED!
- The personification of death. I just love this god so much, from book 1 where we are unsure of his character for the first half, and how we slowly get to know him with Morana. He truly is such an interesting character, and he is so powerful. You see it with how he treats his people and how he truly protects them. "Death has not been kind to me, but Matthias has." GODDD I really loved Matthias.
- How Morana gets around to dealing with her new powers. I like how it didn't feel like she learnt everything overnight or was just a Mary Sue kind of character. You could see her actually struggling and learning, it was nice to see! Especially with how she was thrust into this world suddenly, it was good to see her learning and truly seeing her progress.
- FOUND FAMILY <3
I loved everyone so much, and I was so broken when the dynamics were slightly different in book 3 with everything that had happened, but I genuinely loved them all so much. Hoping they are happy. And desperately wishing that we get spinoffs with the other characters although I know that probably won't happen.
what I didn't love so much!
- I felt like the ending for the last book was just a bit anticlimactic? I expected the 'war' parts and the tension to sort of continue over a bit more, not in a dragged out way, but I felt like it all just ended so quickly. The preparations for the war were so long and thorough, but the final thing ended so quickly?
- I wasn't very into how much Morana was repetitive with some parts. It was clear that her insecurity and her feelings were not resolved, hence she mentioned them continuously, but it felt like it was too repetitive at some point, like every couple of chapters would have the same thoughts of her being insecure about the same exact things, almost worded in the same way.
Overall, I liked the book other than the two things mentioned above, and it was such an addictive read. I went through it sooo quickly, and it had me pacing around the house nervously. I loved it, and I will definitely read more books from this author!
