The Death Hunting #3

The Light Conquering

Rate this book
"She would not be consumed by Death—would not drink of its poison. Instead, she would become Death--wild and dark—utterly insatiable."

War was here, and Morana had chosen the side she would stand on—the monster she'd become.

After leaving the Court of Shadows behind, and moving to the Wastelands with Raidan, Morana finds herself with a new Find Matthias's blood book.

But retrieving the god of Death's secrets isn't as easy as she thought. With the book in her hands, Morana is forced to confront her own darkness and seek out the pieces of her past. The book brings Matthias's intentions to light and highlights her own need for the god's help in unlocking the full extent of her powers. Death had once mentioned that Morana was the answer to this war, and it was time to figure out exactly what that meant.

My heart breaks knowing this is the END, but what an end 🥹 Despite the fears & anxiety I had going in for some of my favorite characters, Emma did this story so much justice & I’ll miss these characters to no end 💕

This book heavily focuses on the rebuilding of Matthias & Morana’s relationship after the ending of book two, and while I would’ve loved to see more of her other amazing characters (I have an unhealthy obsession with Ronan, ok??), she made a great choice in really focusing on the nuances in M&M’s connection in this final book. I mean who doesn’t love a hurt/comfort trope, hellooooo?

I truly loved witnessing Morana come into her powers as well & the pacing Emma used not only in the character development but to tell the rest of this story was well balanced. While the world & powers could’ve been so much more confusing & complex, Emma simultaneously made them unique & refreshing while also simple to follow, so I could still enjoy the actual story & characters.

The ending after a certain someone is captured (👀) is a little quick (do I enjoy pain? Lmao), but there was a lot of build up to it, so it made sense that it worked out how it did in the end.

Overall, this was a HIGHLY satisfying end to the series, and EMMA, HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME FALL SO IN LOVE WITH THESE CHARACTERS 😭

(I need to see some post-credit scenes of Sarnai/Callum & Ronan/Reese like NOW 🔥😂)

4.5 rounded up to 5!
God. This trilogy was just something else actually. I finished it all in a couple of weeks, and it was actually such a nice trilogy to start the year with.

WHAT I LOVED!
- The personification of death. I just love this god so much, from book 1 where we are unsure of his character for the first half, and how we slowly get to know him with Morana. He truly is such an interesting character, and he is so powerful. You see it with how he treats his people and how he truly protects them. "Death has not been kind to me, but Matthias has." GODDD I really loved Matthias.
- How Morana gets around to dealing with her new powers. I like how it didn't feel like she learnt everything overnight or was just a Mary Sue kind of character. You could see her actually struggling and learning, it was nice to see! Especially with how she was thrust into this world suddenly, it was good to see her learning and truly seeing her progress.
- FOUND FAMILY <3
I loved everyone so much, and I was so broken when the dynamics were slightly different in book 3 with everything that had happened, but I genuinely loved them all so much. Hoping they are happy. And desperately wishing that we get spinoffs with the other characters although I know that probably won't happen.

what I didn't love so much!
- I felt like the ending for the last book was just a bit anticlimactic? I expected the 'war' parts and the tension to sort of continue over a bit more, not in a dragged out way, but I felt like it all just ended so quickly. The preparations for the war were so long and thorough, but the final thing ended so quickly?
- I wasn't very into how much Morana was repetitive with some parts. It was clear that her insecurity and her feelings were not resolved, hence she mentioned them continuously, but it felt like it was too repetitive at some point, like every couple of chapters would have the same thoughts of her being insecure about the same exact things, almost worded in the same way.

Overall, I liked the book other than the two things mentioned above, and it was such an addictive read. I went through it sooo quickly, and it had me pacing around the house nervously. I loved it, and I will definitely read more books from this author!

Man oh man where do I even start. This trilogy is absolutely amazing. You definitely need to read it because Emma is a genius and I’m obsessed with any book she puts out.

So back to Morana and the decisions she had made in the previous book. I’m upset I mean who else wouldn’t be. But with her background and her trust with others. I’d do the same. Just was it worth it? Eh Radian himself is sketch right?

I cried during this book. I can’t confirm if it was happy or not happy tears. You gotta read it to find out.

Oh and the spice in this book. TOP NOTCH. Which is interesting since this comment will keep you on your toes until you go read it. You gotta see who are in these spice scenes.

Overall read it buy it. Go read everything by Emma.

So excited to be one of the first people to read the end of Morana and Matthias’s story. The character growth for Morana was beautiful. It was so nice to see her come into herself and step up as a person. She stands up for herself and moves past her whining to be the badass she always was. What I was the most happy to see was how much more of Matthias we get. You start to understand him, and he moves from being passive to that “hot Death God who takes what he wants” we all are rooting for him to be. And the spice? Sweet Jesus. I had many “Sir, this is an Arbys” moments. Emma truly put so much into rounding out her characters and delivering an end to a trilogy that you will love! So proud of Emma and her journey on this series!

What an amazing end to a great trilogy! I have so many thoughts and feelings. I loved how much more of Matthias we got and seeing how Morana’s character has changed over the course of the books was *chefs kiss*. The twists, turns, and reveals had me screaming into my pillow. This book had me squealing, shocked, and emotional throughout and even at the same time. I’m genuinely going to miss these characters and their story but have loved every minute of it (though painful it may have been at times) Thank you so, so much Emma for the ARC! It has been so much fun going on this ride with you and I can’t wait to see what future stories you have!

I love Death. You will to when you read this series! While Matthias likes his wounds from the devastating cliffhanger of book 2, Morana finds herself lost and abused (not on page) while just trying to survive. But when an opportunity arises, does she believe the lies or trust Death.

Ugh the feels!! The writing was so good! Emma brought the feels in this one. She threw in a few twist and turns that I didn’t want to put the book down. I read this in a day! Go get it!

This was a great way to wrap up the series. I am very satisfied with how Morana and Matthias ended up at the end, I was a bit worried with how the last book left off. Garian, I’m glad you’re here bud. I was scared for a minute there. IDK why Emma thought she needed to spike my anxiety with that Garian stunt she pulled 😂. Anyways, I think everyone and their mom should read this series and I really enjoyed this final book.

Special thanks to Emma for allowing me to read the ARC for this book!

The end of the trilogy!

These books were amazing and inspiring.

This is the last book in the death hunting trilogy, a dark fantasy romance. We find out the the outcome of the war and what happens with Morana, Matthias and Raidan. I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. Morana truly grows and overcomes her trauma and insecurities in a realistic way. I related to that. It is an HEA in a way with a symbolic full circle ending.

This series is a must read for me.

Such a wild ride from start to finish! This book will make you giggle, smile, gasp, cry, and shake your fist in anger. The mark of a great author is one who can make you feel along with the characters. I will miss these characters, but Emma wrapped this book up so perfectly. 🥹
