When I got my hands on Dellani Oakes newest novel Dulcet, I was fully prepared to bypass a little shut eye and remain glued to my kindle until the very end...and I did. Happily.

Dulcet is an unusual lovestory, simply because of it's setting. Both the main characters are devout catholics and a great deal of the story takes place in and around church, with several main characters titled 'father' or 'sister', but don't let that fool you ~ this story has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with passion. A great passion that comes as quite a surprise to Cooper and Gloria, who not only weren't expecting it, but were actually going out of their way to avoid it. You know what they say...the moment you stop looking for love, it comes looking for you.

The story is mainly told from Cooper's point of view. A reformed bad boy with a troubled past. I dare you to read ten pages of his story and not fall in love with him. We've all known guys like Cooper...and most of us have fallen head over heels for him even when we knew we shouldn't. Which of course, is part of Gloria's predicament. How can she trust a man, who up until recently, was precisely the kind of man who COULD NOT be trusted?

Emotions run wild in this story of love, lust and a great deal of pain. At times, we wonder if there will ever be a happy ever after for Cooper. Especially when old secrets from his past rise to the surface and threaten to destroy everything he holds dear.

Dulcet will have you falling for Cooper, rooting for Gloria and grasping tight to your kindle, as those unexpected twists and turns take you for a crazy ride. But by the time you are done, you won't just have read a great book, you will feel like you've found a new circle of friends as the colorful characters of this book have come to life to welcome you with open arms, much like they did for Gloria.

Recently, I got back into romance novels and was disappointed by the same ol, tired stories. But I met an interesting author by the name of Dellani Oakes who has breathed new life into a now stuffy genre. In her newest release, “Dulcet” Dellani brings us the story of Cooper, a newly born again Christian with a sexually torrid past. Cooper, who is now comfortably at home in church finds himself in danger of backsliding when he meets Gloria, the church’s newest cantor. Instantly attracted, he fears the ghosts of his past pulling him back to his old womanizing ways.

None of this goes unnoticed by several of his friends and church family who are concerned for Cooper as well as for Gloria’s innocence. But not everything is as it seems, as it’s not only Cooper with secrets. Gloria has a confession of her own and it will throw everyone for a loop.

Although a Christian themed romance novel, Dulcet is not Christian book. It does have strong language and adult themes in it. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and believe if you miss real romance novels then you definitely need to give Dulcet a try.
