MY KIND OF TROUBLE

Luke Matthews isn't passing up a second chance with the one who got away...but first, he's going to make her pay for leaving him.

When her father is injured, Cassie Bellamy has no choice but to go back to her hometown to run the family ranch, but she swears she's going to lay low and avoid the lying, cheating polecat who sent her running ten years prior.

But fate has other plans. As soon as she hits the outskirts of town, her truck breaks down and Cassie quickly finds out two things. Bad Boy Luke Matthews is still hotter than the Texas sun, but he's not a bad boy anymore, he's the town sheriff and seems to have an ax to grind. She also realizes, engaged or not, she is not as over him as she wanted to be. That proves to be a problem when her business-partner fiance visits the ranch and his true intentions are revealed.

Cassie has no doubt Luke can protect her when things turn ugly, but who will protect her heart from Luke?

I hate to type this. I don't like giving reviews when I don't finish the story, but I'm so aggravated that I have to let out some steam. I am flouncing for the following reasons:
- main female character all of a sudden just became a different person. No, really. She is nothing like she was the first 25% of the book. Just completely turned.
- the whole 10 year stint away from home was caused because she saw her boyfriend in what she thought was a cheating situation. Which, duh, we all know... really wasn't, so she left and they've been apart for all this time because of that. *yeah, go ahead and roll your eyes. I did.
- main male character went from Sheriff to sucka in 2.5 seconds.
- oh and he just decided one night that he's going to quit being a sheriff and become a rancher and buy all of her daddy's cattle and it's no big deal.
- they are so short on help, but no one is ever actually working at the flipping ranch. But hey, whatever, you're selling it all this week to the man you hated last week but now lurve again.
- oh, and let's not forget that her dad fell off his horse spooked by a snake. then she comes to help him and same thing happens to her. Original.
- then she tries for some alone time in the middle of the day at lake (you know, while there's so much to do at the ranch and they're so short handed) and he shows up (again, nothing to do at the ranch. which, p.s. he took 3 weeks vacation to help them. disappeared for one of the weeks because he was all butthurt over her) and then they fight and she falls and breaks her leg and gets a concussion.
- evidently one invalid in the story wasn't enough.
- so he hates her again and wants nothing to do with her and is all like, weeee are never ever ever getting back together. And she's all like, but I love you!
- so she blacks out and instead of taking her to the hospital he calls his BFF to the lake and an ambulance so he can walk away, but then sit at his house and go all cookoo for cocoa puffs because he doesn't know how she's doing. Again - you took three weeks off sheriff duty so you could work the ranch, perhaps you wanna go, oh I don't know, to. the. ranch!?
- Then he decides he's going to pick her up from the hospital and take her to his BFFs lake house for a week. Am I the only one this upset over the ranch being neglected? And this dude wants to have his own ranch with 500 head of cattle?
- so, she's all settled in the big bed and he heads back to town to fill her prescriptions and buy groceries, where he runs in to her ex that she dumped two days ago. Yeah, he's still hanging out and apparently unable to bath, shave, or brush his teeth. They argue and push each other and the ex says, "oh, i wanna file charges. Assault." And of course, the sheriff is arrested by his deputy and BFF. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand, I flounced. Because this is just whack!

"You are nothing but trouble, lady. But damn if you're not my kind."

Luke and Cassie have a past, ten years ago she ran away letting her greatest fear drive her from the one she gave her love and heart too. Now it’s time to go back to the town that raised her to help her Dad get back on his feet, the one thing she didn’t expect was to bump into her past her first day back. Luke doesn’t seem to be the same boy she left behind but nothing will change her mind and her perfectly controlled life. A life far away from here, where she runs a successful business and is engaged to her business partner, the only thing missing is the love and passion but who needs that when you have your heart is safely tucked away from getting hurt again, she just needs to keep reminding her heart that.
"How can you marry him when you want me?"

Luke’s spent ten years of his life wondering why, why did she leave, did she lie all those years ago when she said she loved him? So many questions and now it’s finally time for the answers. Taking a break from his job to help Cassie out, he plans to get the answers he deserves, but nothing is really ever as it seems. Ever since Cassie’s stepped foot back into town, Luke finds himself in nothing but trouble.
"You're his kryptonite, babe. His weakness. You crook that pretty little finger of yours, and he's following behind you like a dog on point, ready to chew off the face of anyone who crosses you."

Kinda refreshing to read a full length novel, that covered all its bases all in one book. My Kind of Trouble was an enjoyable read, Luke was a loveable guy that was so in love he would do just about anything for Cassie. Cassie on the other hand was so damn stubborn, granted she was so young when she first left Luke, you would think she would learn her lesson but still she kept on running when things got hard. There was an added plot line in the story that kept things a bit more interesting but at the end things were just drawn out a bit too long for my liking. Still a great read for a freebie!

I really debated about whether or not I was going to post this review on my blog or not. Usually when I know that I’m going to have to give a book a lower rating I only post it on GoodReads and Amazon. I know, that’s kind of a cop out, but that’s just the way I’ve always done it. What made me reconsider when it came to My Kind of Trouble? No other reason than I think this book could have been salvageable and I wanted to give you my reasons why.

See, My Kind of Trouble wasn’t an awful book, it just went a little over the top. There are some things I can’t be specific about because they would definitely be spoilers. I’ll try to be as vague as I can, so here it goes:

• One of the most obvious things that would have helped this book is if the author would have shortened it. I know, I usually complain about novellas being too short and not giving the characters or the story more time to develop. In the case of My Kind of Trouble though, things could have really been wrapped up in about half the time.

• Cassie came dangerously close to doing exactly what she supposedly hated Luke for. I can handle characters doing stupid things (it happens all the time) but not when it goes totally against every principle they seem to stand on from the beginning of their story.

• Cassie had been gone for 10 years. That wouldn’t have bothered me near as much if it would have been just Luke that she left but she also left her father, her home and everyone else she cared about with no explanation. Running away is fine I suppose, but it was the time span that bothered me. I get antsy my daughters don’t check in from time to time even though they live close by and they are all in their 20′s. I can’t imagine how frantic I would have been if they would have left without a word or explanation right after they graduated from high school. Maybe that’s just me but I think that it would have been slightly more believable if the time span would have been a little shorter.

• I think that there was one life or death situation or injury too many. I almost gave up on a HEA for this couple. It seemed like every time I thought they were finally going to reach it something else happened.

There were a few more situations that were totally over the top, but I can’t really tell you what they were without giving something away. Let’s just say that I rolled my eyes… a lot. Just to be fair, there were quite a few people who really enjoyed this book and you can go to GoodReads and check out their reviews. I’m glad that they enjoyed it, this one just wasn’t for me. This is the first book in Becky McGraw’s Texas Trouble series. The next book is The Trouble with Love.

Both the hero,Luke and the heroine Cassie were very likable and realistic characters. Luke had a poor upbringing and it showed in his speech. Cassie, had a black cloud of trouble following her. Her run first, think later attitude got her into more trouble. These two loved each other for years but misunderstandings stood in their way.

The story clipped along at a perfect pace with laughs, tears and excitement along the way. This is the first book in this author's series. I look forward to the next books. This book showed so much promise in imagination and in hot story telling. Parts of the book seemed familiar and predictable but other parts caught me by surprise. With an other book under her belt this series can go no where but straight up and away. The characters introduced in this book, I hope I will see again in the following books.

The jilted boyfriend was the one weak spot in the book. I have met him in many other books with a different name. He does however make the perfect villian that allows Luke to strut his stuff and Cassie to display her quick thinking. An easy, fun hot read for a cold night by the fire.

This was one of the best books I've read in awhile. I started this book when I got off work, knowing I had the next day off. I ended up staying up all night just to finish the book. There was not a good place to stop for the night...I fell in love with the main charactors Cassie Bellamy, and Luke Matthews. I don't want to spoil the book for you, so I can't say everything I loved about this book. I will tell you, I laughed, I smiled, and at times I wanted to throw stuff while I read this book. I will highly recommend this book, if you like a really good romance. The ending is not the same as you would guess, so you have to keep reading till the last page.

I just really didn't like the writing style. Some things were just so tedious to read. The book needs to a proof reader - so many errors! I believe I even found one place where Cole's name was used and it should have been Luke's name.

The book was long, which was both good and bad. I like a long book but not when I'm bored with it. The story line was just. . . well. . . let's stick with the program. This whole thing started with the ranch needing help. Yet that lasted like one day, then Cassie and Luke got distracted with other things. Cassie's leg cast. . . umm . . . she sure did a LOT of stuff that would seem awfully hard with the cast. It seemed the cast was mentioned when necessary but she had a normal life in between. *eye roll* I liked Cassie and Luke apart, but together they were weaker characters. I don't know. . . I was really hoping for a new series to read, but this will not be it. This author has potential, but this falls way short of the mark. :(

*****please proof read this book!!!

I LOVE THIS SERIES !!! Ok so I am going backwards from the first to the last book that I have had read of the series. I want to express that I find it very hard to find interesting, smart, witty, strong characters, and I love when there is suspense and romance.

From the first book and not that far into it you get hooked and hog tied ( I am not going to spoil it for you because well it would take something away from the magic of this wonderful series.

Something that McGraw does is she starts her magics and brings in character that you know have a story they way they interact with the main characters of the story and you think in the back of your mind and some comments they make or how they interact with each other they stand waiting for their chance to embark on their own journey through pages.

I highly recommend that you start with the first book and make your way through through the series I really hope there is many more ...

I can't believe I waited so long to read Texas trouble series. I'll be head over hill in love with this series for sure. Cassie wasted ten years of her life over a mistake for the man she loved. Now going home because her daddy needed her and being engaged how much trouble could follow her after ten years? Luke the man who stole her heart ten years was still in love with her could he won her back and find out why she left? Could this mixed up fun loving trouble finding couple find love in each other again? Hop on over to the Double B Ranch and find out what kind of trouble you can get into

Reviewed at Lovin'A Cowboy Romance

The age of a series has never bothered me. What I’m on the look out for is a good story, interesting secondary characters that I can get to know over the course of the series figuring that eventually they’ll get their own stories told. In the twelve story long series of Texas Trouble it certainly looks like I’ll find everything that I’m looking for right here. Hot cowboys, ladies who take no crap from their men, a bit of suspense maybe a mystery, steamy moments and a good old fashioned love story. What’s not to enjoy about all that?

My Kind of Trouble introduces us to Bowie, Texas – a small town, a ranching community with all the joys, quirks and dangers of rural living and working the land whether it’s crops or cattle you’re tending. Cassie’s father has a decent sized ranch here, and she probably thought that she’d never leave this small town as a young girl. But girls grow up and have their hearts broken… and some, like Cassie run away. Ten long years away from family, friends and the land she once loved… and the boy who she thought would be hers forever. But… Cassie has based her broken heart, her anger and her running away on something that simply wasn’t true. She might have learned that if she’d stayed and fought for her man, but she was young and hurt… and running away seemed the right thing to do back then. Now ten years older, wiser but no less angry, Cassie is back home to help her father run their ranch while he’s recovering from an accident. Her plans for the ranch certainly don’t match up with what her father wants… no matter his age or level of activity. Now Cassie is fighting her father’s dreams, trying to not fall under Luke’s spell again – and discovering that the man she went into business with, the man she’d agreed to marry is nothing like the mild mannered business partner she thought she knew. It’s reality time for Cassie. She’s made mistakes, huge mistakes and now she has to figure out how to fix them.

I liked the setup for My Kind of Trouble. A small town where everyone knows your family and your business. Luke stole my heart pretty fast, especially since he has no clue as to why Cassie bolted all those years ago. He only knows that he’s steered clear of relationships since. Can’t trust a woman not to break your heart. These two had one major miscommunication that could have saved them a lot of heartache if they’d just talked or fought with each other back then. Now Luke is determined to make Cassie pay, but that’s not working out so well since he’s finally admitting he still loves this aggravating woman. When the man Cassie is determined to marry finally shows his true colors Luke is right there. Watching Luke and Cassie learn that what they thought happened in the past was nothing more than a lie was emotional. A decade of wasted time. Their journey back to each other is steamy, volatile, full of arguments, innuendos, and finally some truth between them.

I’ll continue the series and see where we go next in the small town of Bowie, Texas. If you love cowboys, small towns and a good romance then you might want to check out this series. Again, just because it’snot brand spanking new doesn’t mean that there aren’t some amazing stories to discover.

This book was ok, but there were quite a few things that didn't make this a good read.

First and foremost, the grammar errors, the extra words, the misplaced words, etc were so distracting that I almost gave up on finishing this book. Did the publisher not use an editor before going to print? Very disappointing.

Next, the hero and heroine seemed so mismatched. Even after they found themselves back together after 10 years, I couldn't see how or why they got together in the first place. They didn't really have anything in common except coming from the same home town. Other than that... nothing.

Lastly, the villain of the story was a joke. I guess I would have preferred to see better development of Luke and Cassie's characters and story in Bowie, than try to introduce conflict and mayhem from her life in Arizona.

I know my comments were not positive but I'm willing to read the subsequent books to see if the stories [and grammar] get better.

I wanted to like this book.
I did, mostly, like the characters.

The problem with this book is the characters acted like they were 16-18. The were written like they were kids. They had a lot of impulsive knee jerk reactions. They were all "out for revenge". It was over the top childish. The characters were in there late 20 early 30's. One was the sheriff, one owned a real estate company. Yet they acted like kids ALL the time. If this were real life someone would have already told them to grow the F up.

I had a very hard time with this book. The main characters were terrible together, all they needed was to communicate and this could have been SO much shorter. I get you have to have a misunderstanding here or there to further the story line but oooh buddy. They both changed dramatically in the book for each other & didn’t make sense at all. They both went to strong independent characters to whiny, dramatic & dependent.

I’m glad some liked this book but I was frustrated most of the time.

Also…who was actually taking care of the ranch the entire time?

Really enjoyed this one. Lots of banter and feistiness. Take charge men and the women who love to rile them up. I laughed a lot and simply enjoyed the storyline; even the connection that Cassie and Luke shared with Cole was great. Looking forward to seeing how Cole gets his HEA next.
Cassie and Luke shared real chemistry and you could feel the love and concern they had for one another throughout the story. A very pleasant read by this new to me author.
