I had to read this for my uni subject and although it was quite an interesting read, it made me realise that I do not want to be a metadata librarian!

This book rather annoyed me. Yes the topic was quite boring. However I found it really failed to define the topics addressed in a clear way. Maybe there was a level of assumed knowledge I really do not have and simply don’t wish to acquire.

This book did indeed tell me how to create and manage metadata. It was the textbook for a core curriculum class for my BLIS and I did not enjoy reading it. It did help me understand the subject in simple language and gave me the knowledge I needed to complete my assessments though. 4 begrudging stars.

Author Philip Hider has written for ALA Editions a solid overview of the developing trends in cataloging and metadata creation. Frequent examples and a thorough analysis of both past practice and potential new uses helps to make this work a valuable resource for librarians and for those who just want to better understand how we find things on the WWW.

It's not so much "creating and managing metadata" as it is a cursory overview and reinforcement of the need of metadata.
