Do Over is LDS fiction that can easily be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys clean, humorous romance. Set in Utah there are only a few sentences in the entire book that reference something to do with LDS culture. One reference to using money to support missionaries, one question as to whether someone had been sealed in the temple and a sentence that says a wedding takes place in a temple. Otherwise this book could and should be read by anyone who enjoys cute clean fun chick lit!
I read this entire book in one sitting! This was my Christmas Day read, after being woke up at 5:20 by my kids to open their presents I was back in bed by 6 am and was lucky enough to spend most of the day reading.
While reading Do Over I had no clue it was part of a series. I'm odd in that I rarely read book summaries because I hate spoilers so I pick books by their covers. I didn't know I had missed out on anything but since reading it I have gone back and started at the beginning of the series and am enjoying all the back-story on the characters. Who knew Trey had been kicked out of BYU? Or that Sam & Sophie has such a crazy beginning? While Do Over is a mainstream read, Makeover, the first book in the series, is much more of a classic LDS fiction type read.
Do Over was so much fun to read. Iris & Trey were a hoot together. Both are strong characters who can hold their own and when put together there is some great chemistry. I highly recommend you pick up your favorite flavor of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and curl up with this book. But use caution or you might be inspired by Iris and find yourself heading out to purchase a pair of high heeled boots!
Iris was burned--and burned badly. She moves to a small Utah community to take a vacation and to become who she truly feels she is. Trey has also been burned. Little did they know that their lives would change because of a funny situation involving Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
I thought that Iris was a little bit on the rebound, by doing the extreme with her hair and clothes, and almost personality, and going for a guy she would never go for. Yet that style seem to fit her more than her previous one and seemed to be more the real her. I liked that she was able to stand up for herself after living a life of being meek, especially towards Sophie (what is her deal?!).
Trey was awesome! So accepting and kind; chivalrous and funny. I loved the interactions with Donny.
I thought things happened a little quickly, but I really enjoyed it. I liked seeing characters from previous stories by this author, although this could easily be a stand-alone book. The characters felt real to me.
Content: clean. I believe there were maybe two instances where things regarding the LDS church were mentioned, but it wasn't preachy or religious.
I was surprised at how much I liked Do Over. I laughed and wanted to tell someone about what I had read. Even thought about getting some boots to wear.
I love the characters. Iris is beautiful on the inside and on the outside. She was hurt so bad by her husband. Iris is at a place where she hates men. She has moved from Washington state to Alpine, UT. She is making changes in her live to get over the hurt. She buys biker boots and leather jacket, hair cut and dye red on the ends. Iris is taking a break from men right now.
Trey has been hurt by girl friends. His last one decided to marry a different guy. He is staying away from women. He works in construction and rides a motorcycle.
Trey's sister-in-law Sophie and her 3 friends meet at least once a month for lunch. Sophie is worried about how unhappy Trey is. All his friends do is take him golfing. She wants to set him up with the perfect woman. She knows one who just started working at her hair salon.
Maggie thinks thats a great idea to find Trey the perfect woman and she knows who it is. Her husband Luke's cousin Iris who is moving to town in a week.
Allison likes the idea of Trey being happy and she can get over feeling guilty for dumping him and choseing her husband over Trey.
Jacie the fourth women decides lets have a bet about which women Trey will choose. Thier is only one rule that they will support who ever Trey picks. It is for his sake that they are doing it.
Before anyone can introduce Trey to thier pick Trey meets Iris in the freezer section of the grocery store and have an encounter over ice cream.
It starts out with drama of Iris's wedding reception and a journey to find happiness. With lots of laughter along the way. Some times I was saying I can't believe they did that.
Now I have a new author that I want to go and read her other books soon. This is a very clean romance.
I was given this ebook to read and asked in exchange to give honest review from Netgalley.

Who wouldn't be tired of dating after falling for the wrong woman over and over again? Trey has decided to take a much-needed break from the fairer sex, until Iris tumbles into his life. Their romance will either be a disaster waiting to happen or the best fairy tale since Sleeping Beauty. This final installment of the Alpine series will have you giving love another chance.
I've had a review copy of this for a long time and I'm not sure why I waited so long to read it. I think it was because it was the last book in the series and I thought they had to be read in order. While there are characters and stories from the previous books, I don't think they need to be read in order. I still haven't read the first three.
Anyway, I liked this one. I especially liked the parts with Iris and Trey, I would have been happy if the entire book was told with only their POVs. I'm not sure if Iris is part of the other books, but this book opens on Iris' wedding day whens he finds out that her new husband has been having an affair (with a few different women). I liked that as soon as she finds out she ends things, I liked that she wasn't wishy-washy about it. Fast forward a few months and she has moved to Utah to start over. Feeling a little lost she decides to recreate her image. Instead of the proper, classy lady she does a 180 and tries to turn into a biker chick. I liked her first meeting with Trey, pretty cute. They have instant chemistry, but I liked how they saw the worth in each other and treated each other so well. They have a cute relationship and It was fun to see them together.
There is some conflict though. Trey's sister-in-law was awful, I didn't like her at all. Not sure if I even want to read her story (Makeover) now. She does get better towards the end, but her reaction to Iris seemed extreme and weird. Iris' family doesn't approve of Trey and adds some obstacles for the happy couple.
Overall, I thought it was a cute read. I liked it and will have to go back and read the other books now.
I was so excited to read this book, and I was really disappointed with it! I'm still trying to put into words what bugged me about this book, but so far I haven't been successful. Usually I don't want a book to end, but this one felt like a relief to me when it was over! The rest of the review contains spoilers so stop reading if you don't want any spoilers!
I felt like nobody stayed in character, and I'm still not sure who Iris is -- classy, elegant designer or wild painter??? Except everyone loves her and goes out and buys her boots because they want to copy her. Except Sophie -- Sophie who can befriend the girl who broke Trey's heart 9 months ago, but is uncharacteristically hateful to Iris. She acted more like a jealous ex-girlfriend than an over-protective sister-in-law. Even Iris' ex-husband who was only mildly interested in Iris at their wedding reception comes back and wants her back desperately. And Trey breaks up with her because he thinks she's too rich? Did he forget that he was rich? Did he want to maybe talk that over with her? And if that was such a shock to him do they really know each other well enough to get engaged?
And no one (except Sophie who was so over the top it was ridiculous) seems to be concerned that Iris is just getting over a 4-hour marriage that got annulled.
A lot of people really liked this book, and it was a well-written book, but none of the characters did it for me...
I was pulled in just reading the prologue. Iris and Trey have sworn off the opposite sex, because all they have dealt with in life is heartbreak. When they meet each other in the frozen food section at their local grocery store, they both have their eyes set for the last chunky monkey ice cream, who will end up with it? Iris has drastically changed her appearance to scare off men, but eventually realizes its doing the opposite. Trey needs help fending off his sister in law who is trying to marry him off. What is left for him to do, then find a fake girlfriend, and Iris just happens to come to mind. I enjoyed Iris and her spunky nature! She knows what she wants, and goes for it. I also loved Trey's protective nature. These two were meant for each other, even if they didn't realize it at first. All the other characters play some fun roles in connection to either Trey or Iris. Believe me when I say you will be hooked by the first couple paragraphs. I have a couple books of Shannon's already and this just adds to some great writing. This would be a great Valentines day read. I read it in just 4 hrs and is just under 200 pages. If you need some comedy and romance in your life, get this book!
Shannon Guymon is in my parents' Ward in Alpine and has been nice enough to sign my daughter's books, which she was totally excited about. But have to say this was my least favorite of the Alpine series.
The story overall is very cute, and I like the character's interactions. But the fact that all of the main characters in the whole series revert to acting like bratty, wild 15 year-olds the minute Iris comes to town is what really bothered me.
Iris showed a little rebellion after bad circumstances and suddenly everyone wants to start copying her. But what really bothered me was the tattoos! Even if they were henna ones. What the heck was up with that? And the fighting? These are grown men, not hormonal teenage boys. Sophie's anger was unjustified, the author should have made her be pregnant and overly hormonal or something. And I'm not sure Iris has totally figured out her identity crisis.
Hmmm. I'm still trying to think about my exact thoughts about this book. I have loved all the other books on the "alpine" series, and I was so excited when I heard this book was coming out. However, I was just confused. Sure the love story was great, but I didn't love the characters. Sophie was a completely different person in this book then the others, and like someone already mentioned Iris's identitdy was confusing. Not my favorite by Shannon Guymon.
Really cute. The main character reminded of me of my friend who had a purple Mohawk. My friend is so cool, and totally valiant in the gospel, and I wish I had the courage to have a Mohawk or red-tipped hair. I thought this book was kinda short but I wouldn't have it been any longer. It was a fun read, and I need to go back and read her other books.
I wanted to give this author another chance because so many friends have said that her books are so good. I like the general outline of the story and would have given it a 3 1/2 or 4 stars, but some of the specifics were just so over the top that I had to reduce the rating. For one, a couple of the exact lines seemed to be word for word repeated from one of her other "Alpine" books. And the way Trey totally over-reacts to someone writing a poem for his ex-girlfriend (especially when he knew that she didn't have any interest in the other guy). And how did Trey get her parents to like him so much in 1 day? We were left with him thinking that he needed to talk with his parents, then the next thing we know her parents are there at his house and they love him. Did he relent and ease their materialistic worries instead of having them come to appreciate him for his love for their daughter? Did he fly to WA and actually try to explain things instead of letting them come to their own (wrong) conclusions about him? Did he have his parents call her parents and suddenly everything was wonderful?
There were other things that bugged me, but I won't go into more detail. If you want a quick read and don't think too much about the story details, you might like this.
This was a really fun addition to the Alpine Series. I enjoyed the humor and loved the relationship between Trey and Iris. They were both strong loveable characters and I couldn't wait to see them get their Happily Ever After! :)
Fun, clean romance with heart and humor. Very enjoyable. Iris was a ball of fire, loved her. Trey was awesome, too. Full review coming next week on both blogs.
This book was great. I really liked Trey and Iris. I thought their story was believeable. I think when you go through something like Iris did your first instinct is to change something (or everything) about yourself. The Ben and Jerry's references made me laugh (they also made me hungry). I liked how characters from Shannon's previous books made appearances in this book too. I didn't know Allison though. Somehow I missed book 3, but I'll get there. I hated Sophie in this book and I didn't like that at all. Sophie was my favorite. Her behavior was so unlike her and her words and actions made me sick. I still liked the book overall, I just didn't like that my favorite character acted so out of character.
Man, I love Shannon Guymon and this Alpine world she created. Definitely read the previous books in the series because all the female leads from those pop up in this one and reference events from their books here. It isn’t my favorite in the series, the narration/perspective is a little interesting and switches whenever it is convenient, but it is a really fun book.
It is so fun to live vicariously through “wild” female characters that aren’t afraid of the consequences and are just unabashedly themselves. I like the theme to be yourself and don’t just a book by its cover and we deserve to be loved and respected and not cheated on.
Iris needs a vacation after finding out her husband of four hours had been cheating on her with at least two other women for their entire three year relationship. She ends up in Alpine, Utah where her cousin lives to find herself and her a break from people gossiping about her. She's not ready to date and finds someone else who isn't ready to date and they team up to be way other's excuse for not dating. Super cute and fun book.
This is a fun story with great characters. I love the friend group and how they support each other. But also how they hold each other accountable and help them become better people. I have mixed feelings about the parents, but that’s a sign of a well written book. The story is interesting and kept me wondering how it would all come together. In the end I was truly satisfied.
It's the happiest day of Iris' life, she's just married the love of her life. She's at the reception, mingling and enjoying herself, when she's accosted by a woman claiming to be the girlfriend of the man she's just married. When the woman is able to produce proof, including texts, and pictures and proof that she's not the only one, Iris knows that she must get out of her four hour old marriage, and fast and start over. So Iris moves to Alpine, Utah, a very small town where her cousin Luke and his wife Maggie live and decides to reinvent herself. Gone is the classy woman who dresses conservatively and has beautiful auburn hair. That woman becomes a woman who wears holy jeans, motorcycle boots and her hair has bright red on the tip to look like flames. What Iris doesn't know is about the contest. Maggie and her friends Jacie, Sophie, and Allison decide over one of their monthly lunches that Sophie's brother-in-law, Trey, needs a woman in the worst way. Maggie thinks that Iris, who she hasn't seen in a year would be perfect, while Sophie thinks that the new stylist at her salon, Macie Jo, is just the one for Trey. The women agree that Trey will make the final decision and that they will all be fine with whatever he decides. But when Trey picks Iris, without even knowing about the wager, Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. The result is craziness in a way that only Sophie can manage.
I have to say that Shannon Guymon is one of my very favorite clean romance authors. I've read everyone of her books several times, because they are so amazing. The characters are always likable and seem like people you know. The situations are always just a little bit crazy. I love the way that she portrays Alpine as the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else and everyone else's business too. This book was no exception! I loved Iris, I loved Trey and the whole bet on who Trey chooses thing was pretty funny. I really like how these books are kind of a series, but each is also able to stand alone. I was able to read this one quickly, mainly because I didn't want to put it down. I was super sad when I finished, I'm hoping for more of these books really soon!
This was such a fun read. I knew the minute I saw it that I had to read it and I went right over to NetGalley and fetched it. Thank you NetGalley and Cedar Fort for the review copy of Do Over!
Trey and Iris will make you smile both together and separately. After an ugly relationship, Iris decides to experiment with her clothing and hair to fit what she feels is more like the "real" her. After living a certain way for so long she felt stifled and needed a change. Her "do over" shook everything up. Where she lived, how she looked and definitely how she viewed herself. I think it would be fun for even a week to just wear stuff that you normally don't wear and try something new. I for sure want a pair of those boots! I'm trying to convince my friend to try the flame ends on her hair. :)
That Trey is smooth. He just lassos Iris without her even knowing it. Trey is also loyal and devoted (well, except for that one moment where he is stupid. Although I guess that just makes him human). I've read all the books in this series and I'm glad Trey found his match. It was fun to have the couples from the other books in this book too. It was like visiting old friends. (this is a stand alone book though)
This is a sweet romance and I loved it. There were a few references to the LDS culture/religion but absolutely nothing preachy or religious was in this book. I think this is a book anyone who loves clean romance will enjoy.
(Genre:LDS fiction/romance) 24 year old Iris is a talented and very successful interior designer in Seattle who moves to Utah after discovering that her newly married husband has been cheating on her. In an attempt to distance herself from that relationship and to discourage any man from approaching her, she changes her hair and clothing style from sophisticated and chic to biker chick black leather, funky hair, and henna tattoos on her arm. Unfortunately she soon discovers that her new look just attracts different men than was was used to attracting. In an effort to discourage unwanted attention, she agrees to a "fake" relationship with Trey, a young single and very good looking construction contractor who wants to discourage the matchmaking attempts of his sister-in-law and anyone else who is feeling sorry for him after a couple of failed attempts at love. It was very obvious where this was all going and a few things felt over-the-top, but it was still an enjoyable journey. Both Iris and Trey were good characters that you could really root for and I appreciated how quickly they were able to become friends. But the course of true love never did run smooth, so they have some obstacles to work through, but it was a fun, most fluffy ,very quick read, reminding everyone that first impressions based on appearances may not match up with reality.
If you love fun clean romances you will love this book! Be prepared to stay up late, because once you start this book it is impossible to put down. You will fall in love with the characters! Iris is a fun, smart, sassy, misunderstood woman with a heart of gold. Trey is the prince every woman dreams about sweeping off her feet, even if they are in a man hating zone. I love how the beloved characters from the other Alpine books are back. It is always fun to see a sneak peek of what has happened to them since the last book! This book will have you hooked from the very first page until the end. The chemistry and the relationship between Trey and Iris is fun and quirky. I love how he accepts her for who she is, even when others don't approve. This story really shows you what it is like to find true love and happiness. I love how real Shannon makes the relationships and friendships in her books. Relationships aren't always rosy there can be bumps along the way, and she clearly illustrates that in this book. This is definitely a book that once you finish; you will want to read again! I recommend this book to everyone who loves a good clean fun romance!
Sigh. I've got another author to add to my favorites list. I loved this book and while it is the first book by Shannon that I've read, I can assure you it won't be the last. I fell in love with Iris and Trey immediately. I liked Iris's determination to be her own woman despite the heartbreak she endured. And Trey just made me laugh and wish I had a Trey in my life. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, Maggie, Jacie, Allison, and Sophie made great additions to the story, despite Sophie's jerk-like behavior. I liked that they were real people, who had flaws and made mistakes.
I think what I enjoyed the most though were the interactions between Iris and Trey. Some of them made me laugh out loud, others made me giggle and shake my head. Delightful all around and yet it didn't feel shallow, it just felt like two people who had finally found someone they honestly and truly clicked with. The relationship issues between them and with their other friends and family felt realistic and complicated just like real relationships. And I loved the creativity they showed in how they expressed their love for each other. I sigh just thinking about it.
What a fun read. Entertaining and real characters. Plot is enjoyable and realistic. Sophie has been burned. She finds out at her wedding reception that he husband of 4 hour has been cheating on her with not one girl but numerous. She confronts him then goes to the microphone and cancels the celebrations. She takes a leave from he interior design firm and takes off to alpine Utah for a break. She is tired of the rumor mill and pity. Her cousin's wife, Maggie gets in on a bet to find the perfect girlfriend for her friend's brother-in-law Trey. He is a humble, good looking, business owner who has been hurt too many times by woman and has sworn off women. Iris and trey meet at the grocery store in a ice cream section. Iris has changed her look to that of a hard biker chick that she hopes says away. Trey ends up asking iris to be his pretend girlfriend to get Sophie, his sister in law,and also involved on the bet off his back about moving on. The two end up actually hitting it off and then have to convince their families that they are right for each other.
When you are done with relationships and the opposite sex, it is the perfect time for the right person to come along. Iris and Trey decide to pretend to be involved to stop well meaning loved ones from setting them up with someone else.
They become great friends... Bet you can guess what happens next.
I read this book in one day. It is cute and well written. The characters are great people who I was really hoping would get together. After I finished the book I found out that there are other books featuring other characters that were secondary in this one. I had no idea. I read this book as a stand alone. Now I have to do a little research and find the other books. It would be fun to read more of the lives of the fun people I got to know in this book.
This is a clean romance book. There are a few religious referrences, but they are not a prominent theme in the book.
Clean romance, LDS setting/Christian Quick read. Kind of fluffy though for my taste. Characters had some issues that needed to be resolved. MC leaves her fiance after finding he has cheated on her, particularly hurting since it is an LDS setting where fidelity, chastity and virtue are very valued and prioritized in courtship and marriage. Obviously, the fiance is a jerk. He is quickly out of the picture as Iris leaves and heads to UT to start over. She meets Trey, and as she changes who she is on the outside, and puts out some extreme changes in her hair, clothing, etc.. trying to reinvent herself and let go of the past. Series of events throw Iris and Trey together. Iris' family tries to reconcile Iris and her former fiance. HEA comes as Iris and Trey see each other for who they really are, and not just the surface. Ok story for me. The soap opera dramatics were a little much for me, but I knew that as I picked this book to read.
