The Cage: Dancing for Jerome Robbins and George Balanchine, 1949-1954

Rate this book
At 14 years old, the youngest dancer in the New York City Ballet, Barbara Bocher has, after six decades, at last revealed her electrifying story of persecution, today called child abuse. Surviving a near brush with death, she appeared on such stages as the Paris Opera and La Scala. Her autobiography, The Cage, will be compelling reading for all those intrigued by embattled innocence, passion and psychosis.

Absolutely mesmerizing. The Cage is a raw, powerful book that grabs you from the first moment and doesn’t let go. A must read for anyone who loves ballet.

A compelling recount of a prima ballerina's glam and struggle with an interesting socio- political background. Dense with information, charged with the enthusiasm and disappointment of a teenager but also embraced with the wisdom that comes with time. A gem.
