From outer space, Madagascar appears to be bleeding. This is because the island's red soil runs off into the ocean. On land, Madagascar is a world of its own. More than half of the resident wildlife cannot be found in any other country. Open this book and explore Madagascar, an island teeming with life, color, and beauty.

Brief but good, made me interested what actual biomes on Madagascar are because in the book they talk about tropical rainforest and they also show baobabs. Grasslands are different there than the African ones.
Madagascar is sometimes called the “eighth continent” due to its varied and unique flora and fauna. Just as eco-tourists flock to Madagascar to see the “Avenue of the Baobabs,” readers will enjoy the information-rich and colorful volume written by Ellen Frazel. Packed with facts, quirky sidebars, and lavishly illustrated with colorful photographs and illustrations, “Madagascar,” encourages readers who are searching for facts to read about the small island nation for pleasure, too! Young readers will be fascinated by descriptions of octopus trees and tiny chameleons. They will enjoy learning to speak some common malagasy words and phrase. Meanwhile they will absorb details about the people and their daily lives, from work, play, and schooling to holidays and celebrations.
I really love these Scholastic Blastoff Readers about the countries. My students do a big country study unit every fall so these are perfect for us. I like that they are bright, easy to read, have great pictures, and are broken down into easy to read chapters. They have interesting fun facts sprinkled throughout the text and have all of the usual aspects of a non-fiction book: table of contents, fast facts section, glossary, to learn more, and index.
32 pages; Another great book in the Exploring Countries series. Format and information is excellent. Great photos, charts and additional information at the end. Great job! Highly recommended Gr. 4 and up. This book made me want to visit Madagascar!!! Beautiful!
