Alamgir Hashmi has been writing poetry for the past forty years, and is the first English-language writer to bring such recognition to English writing in Pakistan. Of his work, Ted Hughes "Hashmi's poems are a delight - sinuous and assured, serious with a light touch, full of character, surprise, authenticity. I read them with intense pleasure." Introduced by John Kinsella
This is the best selection of Alamgir Hashmi's poetry that I have seen. Kinsella has selected well and written an insightful introduction to this important poet whose work now spans a half century. Hashmi's work has been described as "vital" and "enduring". The poetry here speaks to the reader directly and is wonderfully rich in language and form. It is also a great resource across cultures.
