A Shattered Memory

The typically green Appalachian foliage is ablaze in shades of red, orange, and yellow. The air carries the familiar chill of autumn and life is continuing as usual for Carolyn Crest, an English major at Centre University. One morning Carolyn receives an odd call from a friend that will send her spiraling into an abysmal pit from which there is no return.

Samantha Hunt is certain that something happened to her boyfriend, Derrick, and whatever happened to him is drawing near to her. Someone is following her.

Carolyn is sure that Samantha is having an “episode,” but agrees to venture with Sam into her imagination, mostly to prove the point. What Carolyn finds is not imaginary, but more real than the worst possible nightmare.

Michael is suffering from what seems to be a severe case of amnesia, but something about his life doesn’t seem right. He remembers nothing of his past other than what is necessary for daily life. He remembers how to tie his shoes and his name; simple things like that. He comes to learn that he is in a very strange place with a very strange job; strange things that will only grow more and more unbelievable.

Neither Carolyn nor Samantha will ever know Michael or the role he plays in their existence. Never will they know it, but Michael holds their fate in his hands.

Leyland Hammond runs a small group of mercenaries tasked with Carolyn’s aid. Leyland, though weathered and empty, falls for the green eyed girl. When Carolyn is taken, Leyland is determined to return her safely. Little does he know that he can’t do it without Michael’s help…

I have been writing for years, but only recently managed to publish. This was thanks to a friend and a referral to Amazon Publishing. I know that self publishing isn't typically as effective as traditional publishing, but it's a start. Hopefully, you will join me on my journey to traditional publishing (a goal I have full intentions of fulfilling). A Shattered Memory by Alan Halsey.

A twisting suspenseful edge of your seat thrill ride!

I picked up this book because someone gave it a bad review.

There's a bit more to it then just that but that should sound intriguing enough.

This story starts out a bit strange and I might compare it to a Philip K Dick novel-for anyone not acquainted with him he did the original book the Blade Runner movie is based on. He did a lot of novels that played on themes about the mind and consciousness.

The second chapter of Alan's novel takes us into the life of Carolyn. And I confess at this point I almost put the book down. I'm glad I didn't. There was something about the pace of the first two chapters that bothered me but they are important to the story. And once I read the third chapter I was hooked.

From here on its almost like reading two books waiting for the moment that they both hit the supper highway and collide head on.

The story of Carolyn , Jerry, Samantha, Bill, Ley, and Derick is a carefully crafted tale that needs special attention to the details. As it evolves it is reminiscent of the Suspenseful mysteries of Robert Ludlum and Trevanian. The reader quickly gets the impression that there are more to these characters than meets the eyes. As the bits and pieces evolve before their eyes they can only be drawn further into the story.

As I mentioned there were speed bumps on my road to this good read. And I would warn that there is what I consider rough content that you have to read through because there is important exposition and foreshadowing within those pages.

But, I have this to confess. I know that the author spent a considerable time writing this novel- years- and I shamelessly devoured it in less than half a day because I couldn't put it down.

For all you suspense and mystery readers this is a must. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing! I could not put this book down. At first, I was not sure where the author was going with this book, but I couldn't wait to find out. In the end, it all came together brilliantly and I was able to breathe a sigh of relief-it was INTENSE!

A Shattered Memory was different to any other book I've ever read. It's fast-paced and interesting from the first page, and the ending is entirely unexpected. I'd definitely recommend this book.

WOW! What an imagination!! I was confused from the very beginning of this book as to what was actually going on. The book was very intriguing and kept my interest all the way to the end.
