Guardian Angel #1

Your Guardian Angel

Rate this book
For Ruby Moore life is far more complicated than that of your average teen, for she is in no way average. Ruby is a vampire and her life as a vampire is far from traditional.

It has been one year since her normal life was brutally taken from her. Still adjusting to the shock of the change from mortal to immortal, her world is rocked again and she is taken under the wings of a guardian angel back to Sage Sanctum- a school beyond reach from the vampires that are determined to destroy her.

There, she is freed from her vampiric chains and her normal needs and urges return. However a new urge arises… Lust. A forbidden lust toward her savior, her guardian angel.

Attempting to control these desires is difficult, very difficult and when things couldn't possibly get any worse, her situation becomes life or death as someone, somewhere in the school is aiding those who want her dead.

"I didn't know what tomorrow would bring, but I did know that I would be ready for it."

Some people have evil stepfathers. And some have evil stepfathers who just so happen to be ravenous vampires.

Ruby Moore's life gets turned upside down when her stepfather attacks her and her mother - draining her mother's life before her eyes and then turning Ruby into a vampire. Unfortunately for him, somehow, the turning was only half successful. Ruby still retains her original powers, powers that she got from her mother. Ruby is half goddess, half vampire, scarred by memories of her stepfather that haunt her as she tries to resume her life and maintain some normalcy.

And your birthday just isn't a birthday unless you're abducted halfway through it.

To make matters worse, Ruby gets abducted on her birthday - luckily though, these particular abductors are not out to kill her (well, not all of them - Tay sure wants to, but he won't act on it. But hey - you can't please everyone). They're from Sage Sanctum, a place for gods, goddesses and guardian angels - a place her mother once spent her days in. And Sage Sanctum can offer Ruby what no one else can: her old life back.

They can reverse the turning and revert her back to a goddess.

Ruby is ecstatic at the opportunity. But even if she is to revert back, danger is far from gone. Her stepfather is still after her, with a pack of loyal vampires at his command, not to mention psycho pseudo vampire hunters, bitchy goddesses-in-training and the mysterious murderer making their mark inside the Sanctum walls.

But this time she isn't alone. She's got Eli by her side.

As her guardian angel, Eli will stop at nothing to protect her - like his father before him protected Ruby's mother. But pretty soon the duo's feelings start to waver from the safe realms of comradeship and into deeper, more dangerous depths that could put them both at risk. Angels can't be with goddesses - each must find love within their own kind. That is the rule. A rule Ruby can't help but question as she falls for the one person she can't have.

Will Ruby's powers mature in time for the inevitable showdown?

Love issues aside, Ruby knows that the clock is ticking. Sooner or later the evil that lurks will come to the surface.

And Ruby Moore will be waiting.

My thoughts:

Brilliant, brilliant book!

Eli was amazing. Yes, I know, that makes it sound like I'm an obsessive fangirl, but it's the truth!

So you're a guardian angel?"
"Yes."
"Where are your wings?" I wondered aloud, as I often did.
Eli laughed. "I assume you expect angel wings to be big and white and feathery."
"Well...yes."
"No, they aren't like in books at all...Our wings aren't physical. They are a mass of energy, in the shape of wings, yes, but not really."
"Wow, what a rip off."

That quote made me laugh. I liked how Skyla Madi takes your pre-conceived notions of angels, gods and goddesses and gives them a 21st century makeover. Her main character, Ruby, is (let's face it) not the most socially apt (I mean, she practically melts everytime Eli's in the room - but who wouldn't?!) but she's real. She experienced trauma (obviously) from her past. But she gets on with it. She makes an effort. She doesn't put bros before chicks. She gives pervs and bitches their money's worth - she's not afraid to fight back and stand up for herself. So here's to a heroine with backbone!

Ok. Now that I've gone all 'ga ga' over the book, I need to complain about one thing...

WHY DON'T I GET AN ANGEL WHISTLE?!

Ruby gets a whistle. She blows it = hot guy (a.k.a Eli) comes to her rescue. I. Want. One. These should be, like, compulsory items for the general female demographic. In trouble? Scared? Lost? Blow this ANGELMATIC WHISTLE and your personal, good-looking angel will be with you in seconds!
(I could totally type up an advertisement script for that, let me tell you!)

And the end...the END!!

My gravestone will read;

May She Find That Ending.

sniff sniff

Smell that? Smells like Twilight. Or maybe Halo. inhales Nah, maybe City of Bones. With a hint of Harry Potter.

Your Guardian Angel takes all those books and mashes it into...this. This horrible mess with sappy dialogue and cardboard cutout characters. I swear, it's cheesier than a Krabby Patty with extra cheese.

Since I am far too lazy to type up a proper review for this book. I will instead reveal my feelings with gifs!

My thought process throughout the book

What I wanted to do throughout the book

What I recommend you do when confronted with this book

If that doesn't work, do this

I got to read 'Your Guardian Angel' prior to publication so let me start by saying that I am not the target audience for this novel. I am a grown man in his mid twenties, this book caters for young adult teenage girls. My review will be honest and not bias.

I am not much of a reader, at all but I spent all night reading Your Guardian angel. I read it one sitting and I throughly enjoyed it.

I like the chemistry between Ruby and Eli, I like the strong villain characters and surprising plot twists.
I like that with Your Guardian Angel (and Skyla's writing style in general) you don't need to have a dictionary beside you. She didn't over complicate descriptions with big, fancy words nor did she spend an awful lot of time on the descriptions themselves, which I personally prefer. She kept it simple, engaging and fun.

and believe it or not I can't wait to start the second book.

*Posssible Spoilers*
I'm going to be generous and give this a 2-star rating. But really it's more of 1.5 star. So as you can tell, I didn't really like this book much at all. And I have so many reasons so I'll try to lay these out properly.

Ok so starting with the MC. I don't find her likeable at all. She is seriously self-centered and self-absorbed, not that bright either. So from the beginning, she has a friend named Kyle. He is the only male she can stand because apparently all others just hit on her. You know because she is soooo hot. *eye roll* But she doesn't have interest in him because he's heavier set than the guys she would usually go for. I mean really?

So now you can see that appearance means a lot to this girl. While she has no interest in her friend Kyle simply because he's heavier. She falls for Eli almost immediately because he is just soooo hot. See a pattern? Inta-love big time. And I can deal with insta-love when done right. This was not. The entire romance between her and Eli was just weird and I felt no chemistry between them at all.

So she gets told pretty early in the book that guardian angels are off-limits. But that doesn't compute in her head at all. She's just oh Eli is so hot, must-have. *Another eye roll* Yes I have a headache from the number of eye rolls I have done during the course of this book. Oh not to mention how basically every single guy she meets into her. Cause again she's sooo hot, she even compares herself to Angelina Jolie at one point.

This brings up the point about realism. Anyone ever met a teen/young adult that didn't have something to criticize about the way they look? Me neither, but apparently Ruby is so very perfect that she needs little to no makeup, has curves in all the right places, and is comparable to Angelina Jolie. I doubt even Jolie herself has this sort of confidence. Just saying.

Then when we finally get to the end of this book (thank God). We have what was supposed to be her being all heroic and self-sacrificing. What we actually had was a completely useless heroine, who didn't think anything through at all. I just can't with this, and I'm glad the book is over and I will not be continuing the series.

How I choose my rating:
1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much.
2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end.
3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.

Guys- I gotta say- I loved this lil read- and will def be waiting for book two!!! What a great find!!

Our story begins with our heroine, Ruby, and her mother (both Goddesses btw) being attacked by a vampire (who ALSO happens to be the stepfather/husband)...recently turned, he craves their blood because not only incredibly "goddessly" delicious, but has powers to bring vampire appearances more in line with rest of the human population (and thus undetectable!!) Hank (the vampy stepdad) kills his wife (Rubys mother), but decides to turn Ruby into a vampire...why?? Dunno... But she ends up being a super cool hybrid who can tolerate sunlight and a whole bunch of super cool stuff. Now....she is still half goddess (albeit one who drinks donated blood)- but due to circumstances, she knows nothing about tapping into these powers....interesting, no?

Ruby is kidnapped and taken to (I'm gonna call it) Goddess headquarters (nice ring to it don't cha think??), or Sage Sanctum, the major school in the area for Gods, Goddesses and Guardian angels (who are assigned to Goddesses and Gods). Ok. When I say Gods and Goddesses, I'm not talking Zeus and Persephone... think more along the lines of changing seasons and manipulating the elements.

When Ruby arrives to Sage Sanctum, a series of things occur that are pretty life changing for Ruby, the most interesting being the assignment of a Guardian angel/ body guard to her- and you guessed it- he is Yummmm!!! Ruby and her Guardian angel (Eli) share an instant attraction- but romantic relationships between gods/ goddesses and Guardian angels are forbidden (natch!)..... But you gotta read to find out what happens!

This book has a little bit of everything...Gods, Goddesses, quirky best friends, creepy-just-wont-take-no-for-an-answer stalker types, mysterious deaths on campus, traitors, vampires, vampire/guardian angel war, romance (BUT- this IS a YA book- the romance is young and sweet- a few steamy kisses here and there- but they are awesome!!)

This IS a first book in series- so there is a lot of word building and scene development AND we are left with a cliffhanger (GAH!!!)- but I am patiently waiting for book two-which I will definitely read!!!

I did deduct one for character development- I felt it was just a little lacking emotionally..a little cut and dry. I really wanted to know more about Eli- emotionally. Ruby was better developed- but I still wanted to really get in there and dig around a bit- but I'm sure that is coming in later installments-such is series beginnings :)

I was provided an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review-thank you Skyla!!!! Fantastic read!!!!

After I finished this book I was so angry, so pissed off. The whole book was perfect and then SHOT! The author decided to take us by surprise and make HIM go away. It isn't fair!

 photo tumblr_m8sbnm2iZz1rthbk4_zps19dcc2f8.gif

Now about the story: Ruby Moore was a vampire-goddess. Yeah, her step dad killed her mother after he became a blood sucker and then he tried to change Ruby into one. The thing is, she was protected by a spell and she didn't fully change.
After the chaos, she lived with her aunt and her cousin Camilla till some people from Sage Sanctum (an academy for goddesses and guardian angels) found her. They managed to set her free from the ''vampire curse''. Being again a true goddess, Ruby had to learn how to use her powers. That wasn't so hard, especially because she had near her a guardian angel. Eli De Luca became Ruby's guardian angel and love. They never had a real relationship, but the desire between them was obvious and hot! They shared some passionate kisses *bats eyelashes*

“Sometimes, I have to look twice at you just to see if you’re actually real. That much beauty is dangerous.”

When Ruby thought she was free to live her life, Hank (her step dad) returned with the clear intention to have her. Soon, the ''good'' people betrayed Ruby and made her go mad. Murderers and scary letters were just a little part from what they were doing to her. Ruby made some big mistakes and she had to pay for them in the end. Only that the final price to pay was the hardest one...

Everything about this book was super cool<3! Skyla Madi knows how to please her readers and I can't wait to read the next books from this series! I want more of Eli&Ruby ♥

~HIGHLY RECOMMENDED~

At A Glance
This was a great start to a hopefully great series. The concept was pretty interesting and draws you in right away.

The Good
The beginning was like a punch in the face, but with a velvet glove. It was shocking but oh so stimulating. The story really caught my attention. All the aspects came together to make one hell of a concept: curing vampirism, a school for training gods and guardian angels, and even supernatural high school drama.

I really liked Ruby in the beginning. Her past is pretty dark but she handles things pretty well. She comes off as vulnerable but tough at the same time. She sticks up for herself and her friends against bullies which I respected. She's also very witty and made me laugh, even during the dark times.

Eli was also a cool character. The whole forbidden love between him and Ruby gave spice to story. I actually liked how serious he was. With Ruby being a little immature, they balanced each other out well.

Ruby's stepfather, the vampire after her, was truly evil and made a great villain. I loved the mystery behind who was helping him and how the whole situation played out.

The Bad
I found it hard to like Ruby sometimes based on her decision making. People try to kill her or use her big secret as a bargaining chip and she's mad for a hot minute then forgives them. Yeah, well, no wonder bad things happened to you, Ruby, you let your guard down around devious people. Smarten up!

Some of the characters felt flat to me, and there could have been a lot more world building. I wanted to know more about what kinds of powers the supernatural beings had.

The Snuggly
Though Eli was a bit stiff for my taste, I thought he and Ruby made a great couple. They each have so much passion. But, OMG, the ending. So sad. Yes, there is a cliffhanger.

Just kissing and touching as far as the snuggly goes.

Final Thoughts
This book is not perfect, but it's a very enjoyable read. Though the characters could use some work, I think the premise will keep most people reading. Very recommended.

Quotes
“Brilliance is impossible without a touch of insanity.”

“Sometimes, I have to look twice at you just to see if you’re actually real. That much beauty is dangerous.”

**** MIGHT HAVE SPOILERS ****

I requested to review this novel and Skyla Madi provided me with a PDF version of the book.
This is my review:

I enjoyed this book, I really did. I LOVE anything YA! If it has vampires, werewolves, gods, goddesses, wizards, witches, voodoo queens, fairies or even hybrid-crossed-something creatures, the chances are I will enjoy it. Your Guardian Angel was no exception.

Ruby is a bit of a complicated girl, everything that can go wrong kind of does go wrong. Vampires, boys, bitchy-girls... this book has it all. This book is written in first person so I like how she doesn't dwell on past problems. Usually authors go on and on and on about things, they go over-the-top with emotions and thoughts - Ruby doesn't... maybe it's because she doesn't have time? Once one thing happens another thing happens and she doesn't have time to gather herself which was good. It kept the book fast paced and engaging.

Eli... where to begin with Eli. Am I the only one that is totally in love with him? I want him to be my guardian angel. The relationship between Ruby and Eli is... complicated. He is her guardian angel.
The ruler of their kind made goddess/god and guardian angel relationships forbidden- Even having so much as an intimate relationship with each other, the guardian angels are spell bound with no powers and left to live among the humans. They have feelings for each other, it;'s obvious and it's sexy but they can't do anything about it! And I want them to be together so badly! They share a kiss and intimate thoughts with each other but that is the extent of it.

The villains are cool! I mean, I hate them, but their sarcastic, smartass attitudes are funny and I enjoy them.

Down to the mechanics of the book. I like the way it was written, some sentences I felt could have been improved but it wasn't a bad read. I could feel that the writer just wanted to take the reader on an adventure and she did exactly that. It was straight to the point. Skyla Madi didn't beat around the bush but neither did she rush herself too much.

If you prefer very complex, descriptive, over-use of analogies kind of YA novels then this might not be for you BUT if you just want a nice, cute, exciting paranormal romance then this is perfect.

Thank you for giving me the chance to read this! I can't wait for number two!

OMG This is one of my favorite fiction books to date! I was completely hooked right away. I have a very busy life and I just couldn't put this book down! I enjoyed so many aspects about this book, and you connect with Ruby right away. There are so many characters to like in this book. Plus you have the good vs evil aspect as well. I can't say enough about this book and every one I have shared it with has called and said, "When is the next book I NEED to know what happens!" Bravo Skyla...LOVED IT!

Your Guardian Angel is a fun, entertaining read. I adored the characters and loved Ruby right from the start. She is an easy to like character that you can relate to and sympathize with. Just as any teen, she can be a bit exasperating at times, but I found that quality in her to be true to teenagers and to her situation. And her situation is definitely unique.

Madi is one of those authors that makes writing seem effortless. Her style is easy to follow and engrosses you in the story from the first pages.

Where I felt the story excelled were the characters. Like I mentioned above, Ruby was just so easy to like. I felt for her plight and wondered how she was keeping it together. OF course, she didn't keep it together for long and her sadness and anger led her to make some costly decisions. But it was the perfect set up for the ending, which Madi nailed! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

But I have to say that my favorite character was the adorable, sweet, and sometimes gullible Mila. I really adored her and since she is Ruby's new bestie, I'm hoping that means we get more of her in Book 2!

I can't finish with my review without mentioning Eli. Oh Eli, he is every teenage girl's fantasy guy. And then there's the whole tough, rugged, sexy guardian thing going on. Forbidden love, rising desires, stolen passionate kisses. Oh yes, Eli definitely drove the story forward.

Of course, in the background, I found myself with a growing crush on another not so subtle character. A certain someone helping Ruby learn how to use her magic without the schools knowledge. I'm no fortune teller, but I feel the stirrings of a potential love triangle in the future.

The perfect combination of paranormal goodness, salivating bad guys and romance; Your Guardian Angel is a fantastic addition to the YA genre.

First of all I need to say that I loved the cover of this novel, also the novel was a whole new concept to me, I've never heard of anything like this.

I thought Skyla did an amazing job writing this and while some parts felt a bit lagging to me, I can't say I didn't think it was great. I was a bit frustrating while reading the novel. I felt horribly bad for some of the rules and outlines that were put into place. Also, the ending, oh man! I couldn't believe how it ended, it was really crazy and made me want to start reading the second installment.

Either way, Skyla Madi has some serious talent and she will be one to watch out for now and in the future.

Not sure how or why I enjoyed this book...There is so much out there with vampires and angels and zombies, but for some reason I seem to be pulled in that direction, though I do read alot of everything. I liked this book. I would enjoy reading more about what happens to Ruby and her Guardian. My reviews are just a comment or two, and whether I enjoyed it or not. I loved this book. A great connection between eli and ruby. Though I had quite a bit of anger towards several characters. I hope this book explodes outward to a great many people. I am looking forward to seeing more from this author!!! **hint hint** Definately a must read to anyone out there who enjoys a good book!!!!

Ok so this was the first book cover I made for limitless publishing so I figured I should buy it, and I am so glad I did! This book was so amazing that I read the whole book in one night, and then read the first half of Sun Kissed that same night because I just couldn't stop (until I passed out on my phone haha) The writing was just so great that I honestly can't believe this is her debut novel. There were just so many twist and turns that I was often left in tears on one page and squealing out of happiness on the next. Amazing!

Skyla Madi read my review this morning on my blog and this is what she had to say "Woweeee!! Hands down the greatest review I've ever had! <3"

Here is the review she loved so much:

Where to start this review, I really don't know. There are so many things I could sit and gush about all day, but that would spoil your own reading journey. What can I say without spoiling it? Well... For a start, I want to prepare you for your next book boyfriend. His name is Eli De Luca, the name alone is swoon-worthy but the man himself is even more amazing.
My first true (fictional) love was Dimitri (Dimka) Belikov from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and I have to say that the pedestal he once had all to himself is now shared by Eli De Luca.
He is a Guardian Angel entrusted with the care of Ruby Moore. He is H.O.T hot and there is no denying the chemistry between him and Ruby, even though it is forbidden. But isn't a taste of the forbidden fruit even more exotic? I think so. It's more dangerous and alluring. All words that could also be used in a character description for Eli.
So, anyway, before I end up making this a review of Eli and not the book, I best put him to the back of my mind [very hard to do].

Ruby Moore lives with her mom and life would be good if it wasn't for the fact that Hank (Ruby's step-father) turns up and all goes to Hell in a handbasket. See, the thing is, Hank has become a vampire. He's come back to drain both Ruby and her mother as they are pure souls and that is what a vampire needs to survive.

[spoiler removed]

Ruby's life as a weak vampire completely sucks. She's neither a fully fledged vamp, nor a normal human being. She can do things other vamps can't, like go out in the sunlight. But ultimately there are things such as super-human speed and strength that she doesn't have.

[spoiler removed]

Ruby is taken to a place called Sage Sanctum where she must be kept outside of the school grounds because she is a vampire and the students are Guardian Angels, Gods and Goddesses. But Mr Alexsandrov - the head teacher - takes Ruby to a cabin where her mother used to live. He tells her that her mother always meant for Ruby to come to Sage when she was old enough and that the cabin used to belong to her mother.
She is protected by Tay and Eli, two angels tasked with watching over her until she can be turned into what she was always meant to be, a Goddess.

In time, Ruby is allowed to attend Sage Sanctum with the rest of the students. Most of them don't know what she was before, but some manage to find out and try to give her a hard time. But Ruby is such a kick-A heroine in this wonderful story and she takes no nonsense. She settles in to life at school, even though the lessons about plants and stuff are pretty boring.
The best thing about school for Ruby is that she gets to see Eli. She wasn't even thinking about boys until he came into her life and now all she can do is think about how handsome he is and how she longs to feel his soft lips upon hers.

I have to be honest, everything Ruby was feeling, I was feeling alongside her. I had this rapidly developing crush and I was urging Eli to give in to his desire and kiss her. You could tell they both wanted each other, the tension was palpable. But a relationship between a Goddess and a Guardian Angel is forbidden. Goddesses like Ruby should be mating with Gods. But Ruby doesn't let a little thing like that keep her from trying to get time alone with Eli at every possible opportunity.

So before I spoil the entire book, I'll finish by saying this...

Skyla Madi is an incredible author. Her writing sucks you in and you fall heart first into this amazing book. I have always loved anything to do with Angels and this is one book that I rank up there with the most incredible of them.
This is a fast-paced, thrilling, heart-string-pulling roller coaster ride of a book and I cannot wait to pick up a copy of Sun-Kissed and fall back into the world that I didn't want to leave. Skyla weaves a little magic into her characters and makes them something special.
The good guys have you rooting for them and the bad guys have you wanting to get in there and land a few well placed punches yourself. You feel the anger building and just wish that you could get in there and knock their heads together.

So if you are looking to find your next favourite book, then look no further! For fans of Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy books, if your heart belongs to Dimka, come and see if your heart strings are pulled in the direction of Eli. I swear, you won't be sorry.

First Thoughts
Celeste: So so so so so good! Reminds me of frost by Jennifer Estep and Covenant by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
Amy: Loved it! OMG. Where can I get me one of those Eli guardian whistles?!

Plot, Setting, Pacing and Style
Celeste: Plot was delicious. So up my alley. I love forbidden romances with serious chemistry.
Amy: The storyline was great, the setting was unique and very interesting, but I thought the pace was a bit slow in the beginning. However, I am a tad impatient and greedy and may have just wanted more Eli time.. Things definitely did pick up steam though as the story unfolded and left me craving more Eli in the end!

The MCs
Celeste: Ruby was awesome for the most part, but she had her foolish heroine moment when she decided to act alone. Over all, I loved her spunk and bravery and honesty about how she felt about Eli. Eli was one hot mofo. I love a brooding male who has major self control. I am basically just waiting for him to unleash and go all animal sexy times on Ruby. *ducks away in shame*
Amy: I loved Ruby! She’s a very fiery, witty and headstrong character that can hold her own (for the most part anyways..) and even though she may have made a few mistakes along the road (don’t we all!), her intentions were always clear, as were her feelings for Eli. Ruby’s life is completely flipped upside down and she learns of all these unfamiliar beings that she must now face, befriend and fall hopelessly in love with and she does it without question or complaint! Now that’s character to me. As for Eli.. Y.U.M! He’s beautiful, alluring, sexy as all get out and he’s also very, very well aware that Ruby is totally off limits! He must protect her and he must push aside any feelings that may be growing for her.. but can he do it? *evil laugh* Get ‘em Ruby! Drive him crazy! *wink*

Romance /Chemistry
Celeste: Loved, adored, totally sucked in.
Amy: Again, Ruby is pretty vocal about her attraction to Eli, but Eli struggles with allowing himself to openly feel for Ruby because he knows a romance between them is absolutely forbidden. That being said, we didn’t really see a romance per say.. Was there chemistry? Um, OH YES. An overwhelming attraction and connection? Yep! And it’s hot! I seriously can’t wait until Eli finally gives in already!

Thoughts on the Title and Cover
Celeste: Snooze and snooze.. neither really grabbed me.
Amy: Not exactly what I’d envisioned the cover to look like for this story, but it’s pretty. The title is.. fitting.

Ending
Celeste: Cliffhanger!!!!!!!!!!!! Eli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amy: Holy death by cliffhanger Batman! What an ending! *fumbles around on kindle like a spaz for book 2*

Gripes/Suggestions
Celeste: Whilst – overused and too old fashioned. Singlet – What is that?! Is that an undershirt?!
Amy: My only gripe is the formality of the dialogue between Ruby and Eli. Now I understand they are struggling with feelings and everything, especially Eli, but some of their conversations made them seem like they were just colleagues or respected acquaintances when it’s really so much more than that. I’m hoping that as the series goes on, the love and lust simmering between these two characters explodes onto the pages and knocks our socks off.. and I have a feeling it’s definitely going to!

Would You Rec It?
Celeste: YES
Amy: Yes Yes Yes! This book is really good and there’s SO much potential too! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I got this book at the Kindle store for $3.99 and i have to say, it wasn't worth much more. While i see the great story line, great characters and setting I'm afraid it just did not live up to it.

Constantly throughout the book i was cringing from the bad structure, accidental corniness and bland conversations. It was a guessing game for the most part as most expositions were left unfinished and unexplained.

Read on for more please

I'm just going to stop now because there's too much to write and i have nor the patience or bother.

This book was in serious need of a good editing, a few more versions re written, more descriptive.. everything i guess and way way better character development.

Madi had so so much to work with here and such a great book is hiding behind all of this crap dialogue and world, so i just think that she bit off more than she could chew.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants an amateur [bad] romance/fantasy novel.

**JUST TO ADD**

Her elemental power was pretty much non existent and quite frankly useless.

Also I have to say this book was blatantly verging on plagiarism of a certain well known series with a steamy *cough* Russian *cough* guardian, rebellious female, secret supernatural academy based around vamps?

4.5 Stars
Review originally posted on The Page turners

WOW! This book hooked me right from the start!! I was addicted and it was so.......page turning (well, you know, my blog is called The Page Turners. Lol).

I give this book 4.5 stars.

I love this book right from the start, how Ruby started by explaining how she got turned into a vampire and her mother got killed in the process. She never wanted this life, her mother was a goddess, so basically, she's half goddess, half vampire. Sounds soooo cool!!!

So since she's a vampire, there are loads of people running after her. There is her step-father (who is the one that turned her), there are vampire hunters, and there are these guardian angels with invisible wings!! Great twist of angels!!!

So this is when Eli enters!! Oooohh the hot-brooding Eli, Ruby's protecter and also an urge of lust that Ruby has to fight against since a sexual relationship between a goddess and a guardian is illegal (ooh that word. "Sexual"....it's sounds so cheesy..lol).

At first, I thought Ruby was the sort of girl who is bad-ass and knows how to kick a jerk's ass. But she's the complete opposite. And that's not a bad thing, because Ruby isn't like other girls who moan and talk a lot, and is a total pain in the ass. She's fresh, she doesn't have feelings between different boys. There were about three boys chasing after her (not including Eli) and she didn't fall with anybody else except Eli. There is this quote by Johnny Depp that I thought really describe the love interests in this book:

"If you love two people at the same time,
choose the second one,
because if you really loved the first one,
you wouldn't have fallen for the second."
~ Johnny Depp

I thought that this quote was the total opposite of Ruby, like I said, there were about three guys liking her, and she didn't show interest to any of them except Eli and I love that about her. Most girls in other books would have tiny feelings for one guy, and tiny feelings for other, but Ruby didn't, And I really love that.

The storyline was amazing, but the reason I gave this book 4.5 stars, was that it was a bit too formal. It was more like people who respect each other than people who are in love (or lust). The way the speeches were really formal wasn't my thing. I'm not saying it's a bad thing but my type of style is more swearing words and rudeness to show how hard-to-knock-down the characters are. But other than that, I completely loved the story.

I'm moving on to the second book now, which is: Sun Kissed by Skyla Madi.
WOOHOO!! Can't wait to start!!!

I received a copy of this book for free -as part of the blog tour- in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a little surprised to say that I really liked this book! It’s been a few months since I actually read a good book featuring paranormal creatures, but The Guardian Angel exceeded my expectations

I think this was a great first installment in this series. The world Madi creates is wonderful and exciting. Pure beings such as gods, goddess, and angels share the Earth with vampires who are the exact opposite of pure. Both live somewhat amongst humans who are oblivious to their existence. Every goddess needs a guardian angel for protection since vampires become stronger when they drink blood of pure beings. To learn everything they need to live and put their gifts to use, young gods and goddess attend to Sage Sactum, a hidden school for all those pure beings. While gods are taught to defend themselves, goddesses are seen as too valuable to lose at fighting vampires, so they’re only taught to use their elemental magic abilities, leaving the physical protection to their guardians.

I really liked the main character, Ruby. She’s an eighteen-year-old goddess who’s been turned into a vampire by her step-father who also killed her mom. I like that she's authentic. She's as three dimensional as a real person, with flaws and contradictions, but in the end she's a strong girl who's able to pick herself up every time she's let down. I really admire her for that. I also really liked Eli, the sexy guardian angel… He’s caring, a great fighter and a good person. I love the sexual tension between those two, it's really captivating and intense. Of course, the fact that their love is forbidden makes it much more interesting and gut-wrenching.

The secondary characters were fine, but I wish they were a bit more developed because I struggled a little to understand their motivations.

I though the plot was great... the whole idea of a boarding school for supernatural beings and how the vampire concept is played in this world is really appealing to me. It reminds me a little of Vampire Academy but I still think the concept is great and somehow unique.

Overall I think this is a really good, action-packed and exciting story. I'll recommend it to everyone who loves a good paranormal adventure.

Luckily for me Your Guardian Angel is not just the usual vampire and human love saga (not that I don't love those books). It's really not what I expected, so I'm going to have to try to tell you how great it was without giving away major/amazing things that happen!

Ruby Moore - The Vamp Goddess

Ruby and her mother lived a happy life as goddesses until her step-father turns her perfect life upside down and turns her into a vampire. Not only this but he kills her mother! Not liking him so far? Well he only gets worse...

Even after having her life completely and utterly changed Ruby doesn't hide. Going to live with her aunt and cousin is just a temporary fix, unaware of this she attends school and lives as much as one can after going through such traumatic events. Soon she finds herself at Sage Sanctum, the goddess/god school her mother attended, with hope that there she may be able to change her back into a goddess.

Eli De(licious) Luca - The Guardian Angel

Now what was this book missing so far... Oh yeah a little bit of forbidden romance. Eli De Luca is Ruby's guardian angel, now it's just that it is against the rules for a guardian angel and a goddess to be romantically involved. Well I guess some rules are meant to be broken.

Now if you think that sounds good so far...

Throw in a few boys who can't seem to get enough of Ruby, an evil step-father and his minions who are still after her life and some other twists and turns along the way.

I really enjoyed reading this book and am glad that there's a second in the series!!!

It was a typical YA book with an 18 year old who doesn't really trust anyone and just rushes blindly into things/choices. With the different classifications of people (gods, goddesses, guardian angels, & vampires), it reminds me of the Vampire Academy books. And of course the main character Ruby is in love with the forbidden guardian Eli.

I really enjoyed Your Guardian Angel-- like reeeallly, reealllly enjoyed it. Your Guardian Angel is Skyla Madi's first novel and so I was able to see past a few issues that I had.

I am glad I got this book. It was fun and engaging. I'll definitely be checking out more books by this author.
