Even as a child Candice Poarch was a dreamer and created scenes in her mind. She quickly fell in love with writing stories centered around families and romance. The quest for love is universal, she says. Being familiar with rural Virginia, she portrays a sense of community and mutual support in her novels, many of which are set in small-town America.
Candice grew up in Stony Creek, Virginia, south of Richmond, but now resides in northern Virginia. She has been married for thirty years and is the mother of three children. A former computer-systems manager, she has now made writing her full-time career.
I'm pushing it by calling this a work place romance, but she does help him catch a killer and he is a cop...so that's gotta count right?
I don't know why this book is titled The Last Dance, nobody dances and it doesn't involve dancing at all.
Is falling in love "The Last Dance"?
It may seem like I didn't like this book but I did. It wasn't the greatest thing I've read this week but I liked it just fine. Plus this book had a murder mystery subplot. I knew who the killer was the whole time but it was still nice to have this book be more than a romance.
I will say one more negative thing about this book.
Shari our main character gets mad at and breaks up with Emmanuel her love interest for not being in love with her when they've only been dating for less than a month!
The blurb on the paperback is a bit misleading, as the story is so much more than a playboy falling for a computer geek. The heroine is overcoming the trauma of a sexual assault and learning how to trust men and be in an intimate relationship. Plus, there's a murder plot involved. There are quite a few background characters that make the storyline confusing -- keeping track of who is who -- but overall, The Last Dance was an interesting read.
Emmanuel finally found a woman to love other than his mother. Even though Shari had been through a tragedy, she was able to bounce back and find a true soul mate. Looking forward to the triplets stories.
