A missing teen. An unsolved murder. Crime notes found in the basement. This is the gravity that pulls a boy into police work like his father. “The Midnight Coffee Club” entwines mystery, adoration, and daring in this poignant, introspective, true-life storytelling that lingers deep in thought, then hits the heart. The grit. The glimmers. The pull of police life. “The Midnight Coffee Club” takes readers from their beach chairs and cozy couches to the highs and lows of midnight shift work. Penned by journalist and former cop — Jason James Barry — the narration reads in literary elegance, whilst journeying to the dim places where investigation and street policing dwell. For anyone who lived a life in law enforcement — or wished that they had — “The Midnight Coffee Club” is a must-read!
Found it hard to keep up with all the changes in direction of the story. There were quite a few things that don’t get wrapped up. What were the details of the ‘shoplifter incident’ all I discovered was that he got jammed up by his lame back-up, what happens in the Janette Reynolds case, more info on Michael Ross and the other suspects to name a few, etc. I guess I thought this would be more of a beginning-middle-end than miscellaneous ramblings, definitely not ‘literary elegance’ in my opinion..
