This book is called “Phases and Their Places” because each chapter stands for a phase in my life that I’ve attached a place to. “Playground” summarizes the beginning stages of my life. Playground speaks about the struggles of growing up as a first generation Yemeni-American daughter. I also highlight different aspects of the Yemeni war and redefining restricting societal beliefs. “Graveyard” are poems filled with insecurities, mental health, and unreciprocated love. I've written these poems when I was in a dark spot in my life. “Garden” is the era of regrowth. This chapter is all about self-love, healing, and and re growth. This chapter talks about getting closer to my religion furthermore, my connection with Allah made me realize my worth. This is part of the book where I am unlearning self-hate, limiting beliefs, and growing into the person my younger self needed.
