If you're like me, you might have come across Nancy in Hell (On Earth) without having read the previous volume. I was initially a little antsy about that, as sometimes you can pick up a second volume or a continuation and be incredibly lost as far as story goes. Not so with NiHOE, which ultimately works to its advantage. Newbies like me can get into the read without worrying about missing out on much.
As far as story-lines go, this is pretty strong when you consider what this ultimately is: a graphic novel love song to the B-movie horror genre. This isn't meant to be a Walking Dead type read where it takes itself seriously or even a Crossed type read that tries to comment on various issues or themes. No, this series is here for the entertainment value. After all, the B-movie genre itself is pretty much just here to entertain, so why mess it up by trying to be anything other than what it is?
Character-wise, the development here is decent. We're given just enough for the characters to be interesting. The pacing of the book doesn't allow for a lot of backstory and exposition about the characters and luckily we don't really have pages of people mentioning tortured pasts or whatnot. It is what it is and while some of the characters here aren't very deep, they don't really have to be to serve their purposes. Now as far as art goes, I hope you like the female anatomy, because you get tons of bare chests and splash images of women in various poses. It's cheesecake and sometimes done purely for cheesecake's sake, but again- this is in keeping with the general tone and idea of the book. B-movie love song, after all.
I have to admit that I'm curious to read the previous volume and I can't wait to read the next volume in the series. This book leaves off with a cliffhanger ending (slight spoiler) and I'm definitely not regretting purchasing this from my local comic book store.
Fans of the original will not be disappointed by "Nancy In Hell (On Earth) ". The titular character is back, - this time the outfit is just as skimpy as before, the chainsaw is bigger and there are angry naked angels to deal with! Not for the faint of heart but not to be missed by true fans either.
More ass shots! Keep 'um comin'. The artist manages to show a score of naked angels, but with all the fun parts covered up. The artwork is kinda sketchy with exagerration and physical imperfections that are sometimes painful to watch, but the boobs save the day. The story needs some saving too, but I guess the focus was alays on the womed. Naked, winged women!
Lucifer is still a pussy, so Nancy is motivating him to save the world. Mr. Macabre was behind Nancy's death and escape from hell. He planned for the gates to hell to remain open and now the world is being destroyed by all sorts of creatures from hell.
Nancy and Lucifer are helping a bunch of humans to reach shelter from the demons when angels also enter the fray, killing both demons and humans to get to Lucifer. Their goal is to make Lucifer their leader and replace God who is dead.
