Wicked Wagers: The Complete Trilogy

Rate this book
A compilation of Award Winning Author, Bronwen Evans, fabulous Regency Wicked Wagers trilogy, the complete set. Three notorious rakes and three determined ladies collide in this set of three linked Regency romance stories, all based around a series of scandalous dares, wagers, and challenges.

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield
Lady Caitlin Southall's temper has finally got the better of her. She's challenged Harlow Telford, the Duke of Dangerfield, the most notorious rake in all of England, to a wager. She wants her house back. The one her destitute father lost to Dangerfield in a card game. But if she doesn't win their bet, she not only loses her home, she loses her dignity and pride and damn it all, maybe her heart...For the handsome Duke has decreed, when he wins, she must spend the night in his bed.

Harlow Telford is amused by his hellion neighbor, Caitlin, or Cate to her friends, who seem to encompass everyone on earth except him. When she bursts into one of his private gatherings, he mistakes her for the entertainment. Her slap across his face sets him straight and raises the absurd desire to seduce the unconventional beauty into his bed. When she issues her daft challenge to win back her father's pile of rubble, the terms are set. And he'll do anything to win--except fall in love...

To Wager the Marquis of Wolverstone
Marcus Danvers, the Marquis of Wolverstone, is renowned for his cynical demeanor. It's rumored that long ago, a beautiful woman broke his heart. Now he lives life for pleasure. He’s the consummate, handsome rake. If anyone tries to get too close—let’s just say his bark is as bad as his bite. That is, until the beautiful, as she is deceitful, Contessa Orsini re-enters his life with a wager he cannot resist. When he wins, he’ll have Sabine exactly where he wants her—in his bed and at his mercy.

Forced to return to England and avenge her father’s death, Sabine knows the one person who can help her is the only man she has ever loved—Marcus. The man who hates her with as much passion as he once loved her. But Marcus doesn’t know that by winning the wager he’ll also be getting his revenge. For there are some secrets best left buried…

To Challenge the Earl of Cravenswood
Henry St. Giles, the Earl of Cravenswood, longs to find his soul mate. Now that his two best friends, both reformed rakes, are happily married, the need becomes an obsession. When they challenge him to find a wife by the end of the season or marry his neighbor, the innocently alluring Lady Amy Shipton, he can’t believe his luck. He wins, either way. But a darkened garden, a case of mistaken identity, a drunken kiss, and a dropped emerald earring, leads Henry on a Cinderella hunt. He knows the woman he held in his arms could be the one he's searched for all his life. He just has to find her.

Lady Amy Shipton is determined to marry for love instead of sharing her husband like her mother did. So why did she let her handsome neighbor and romantic fantasy, the Sinful Saint as he's called for his bedroom prowess, seduce her in his garden? And what can she do when in the middle of their passionate encounter; he whispers another woman's name. Now Henry is hunting the owner of the earring Amy left behind, and she's determined to retrieve it before her identity is revealed. She's not about to give her father the ammunition he desperately wants to force her down the aisle.

Wow what great stories. Gotta love 3 great stories in one book.

The first story is To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield, with Caitlin Southall and Harlow Telford, the Duke of Dangerfield. Loved this story. Really liked the wicked wager they started, cards, cake baking and a horse race. They had some great chemistry together and very nicely written sex scene. The was lots and lots of dialogue throughout the entire book! Love lots of dialogue. The story line and plot were great. About 130 pages long.

The second story is To Wager the Marquis of Wolverstone, with Sabine and Marcus Danvers the marquis of Wolverstone. I enjoyed this story too. She had a bit of a brutal past but overcame it. Asking the man she loved for 10 years for help with destroying someone. Again great story line and plot. Great chemistry between them and a nicely written sex scene as well. Lots of dialogue throughout the story. About 138 pages long.

The third story is To Challenge the Earl, with Amy Shipton and Henry St. Giles the Earl of Cravenswood. Great story too. Cracked me up at one point when she was hiding under his bed and he decides to pleasure himself! Totally LOL! They too had great chemistry and a very nicely written sex scene. The story line and plot were good. Lots of dialogue throughout the book! About 152 pages long.

These were not long stories so they were not full of filler nonsense, which is a total treat for me!

As for the narration of Marian Hussey, it was fantastic! Loved it. She did all the men's voices very well and gave everyone a voice. She read with emotion.

I totally recommend this trilogy book and this narrator!

Bronwen Evans’ Wicked Wagers trilogy follows the stories of three lords with rakish reputations—Harlow, the Duke of Dangerfield; Marcus, the Marquis of Wolverstone; and Henry, the Earl of Cravenswood—and the women who make them dance to their tunes—Lady Caitlin Southall; Sabine, Countess Orsini; and Lady Amy Shipton. Each lord makes a wager that, somehow or other, has his fate intertwining irrevocably with the lady who’ll become his soul mate.

I actually picked up the first book in this series, To Dare the Duke of DangerfieldTo Dare the Duke of Dangerfield, over a year ago, and I remember enjoying the story of hoydenish Caitlin and her alpha male duke so much that I made a mental note to pick up more books by Bronwen Evans. Then, well, life and other books got in the way, and I just never got around to it.

And just last week, I picked up Captivated By His Kiss: A Limited Edition Boxed Set of Seven Regency Romances, which contained the second Wicked Wagers book, To Wager the Marquis of WolverstoneTo Wager the Marquis of Wolverstone. And as I was reading it, Caitlin and Harlow’s story started coming back to me, and I ended up not only rereading book #1, but I went ahead and completed the trilogy with To Challenge the Earl of CravenswoodTo Challenge the Earl of Cravenswood, because by that time, I’d decided that Henry was my favorite of the lordly trio. Then I found out that the three books were being sold as a box set for just $5.99! Go figure.

I found myself enjoying the series, despite how long it took for me to get from book #1 to book #2. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I ended up reading the three books in one day, once I’d rediscovered it. It didn’t quite deserve five stars, in my opinion, but this was due to some personal preferences when it comes to characterization and some minor technical issues. When I encountered a (very) few spelling issues here and there as well as some phrases that seemed inconsistent with the period, I did tell the grammar nazi in me to hush up, even if she did take note of them.

The three lords were definitely swoon worthy, and if Amy wasn’t quite up to Caitlin and Sabine’s weight as a heroine (her tears welled a little too quickly for my tastes), I could nevertheless understand her appeal. She and Henry did seem to have the steamiest relationship, too! Even though Dangerfield was definitely my favorite of the three books, I definitely would say that all of them are worth a read (especially when they’re bundled up in that box set).

What can I say? I have never read a book of Bronwen Evans and after reading the plot of Wicked Wagers, out of curiosity I applied for the contest for the giveaway and I received the copy yesterday. I can say until now it's that it didn't dissapointed me, but all the contrary, I'm marking this author as to read in the future.

Wicked Wagers is the compilation of three novellas, each one narrating the story of three friends: titled, rich and rakes.

Up until now, I have just read the first novella, To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield.

Two nobles, neighbours since children, but just mere acquaintances.

She is Lady Caitlin Southall a most unusual woman, who tends to do what her impulses say.

Harlow Telford, Duke of Dangerfield, and known as Duke Danger, is a rogue who only cares about his family and his pleasure.

The two of them end up tangled in a wager when Lady Caitlin goes to Dangerfield house to claim the inheritance of her mother that his father just lost to Dangerfield in a game of cards. They are betting the house and in the way something more important.

The story is refreshing, interesting and funny. The two main character are strong and have a way to retort every word that they throw at each other. He is charming smooth with words. She is strong-willed and has wits that no other woman at that time usually has.

The story is well narrated, not being to fast, the descriptions are detailed, but light. The description of their attraction is sensual and erotic but not vulgar.

We are presented with two important secondary characters, Lord Dangerfield friends: Marcus Danvers, the Marquis of Wolverstone and Henry St. Giles, the Earl of Cravenswood, who are going to have their stories later.

I'll post a review when I end them, I can't wait to read who are the heroines who are going to catch these two rakes.

I was hooked from page 1 of these flawless, beautiful, heart wrenching, romantic journeys with 3 very passionate Earls. I just love the intense passion that you feel from ms. Evans writing. Wonderfully consuming. Love buying bundles and you don't have to wait for stories!

Looking forward to more stories from this author.

Entertaining and sensual all the way through.
I was captured by each story from the first page and was not able to put the book down until I had read the ending.

After reading this book I have also bought Invitation to Ruin and Invitation to Scandal by Bronwen Evans.

I previously purchased and read all of the books in this boxset.

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield: Devastated at the loss of her home in a card game by her wastrel father, Lady Caitlin is determined to demand it back from the Duke of Dangerfield. She has known Harlow Telford since she was a young girl when he came to her assistance and has carried a torch for him over the years. However, she is now an adult woman with only one resource and that has been torn from her. Facing up to Harlow takes more courage than she would have thought, but walking in on his evening's entertainment takes the wind out of her sails. Harlow has a good understanding of the kind of woman Caitlin is and knows that winning her over will be no easy task. It seems obvious that the only way to settle the matter is to lay down the terms of a wager. Harlow holds his cards close to his chest, trying to play out a game for which there is no easy outcome. The plot is well written, witty and intriguing and whilst romantic, there is also underlying pain and unresolved issues that need to be addressed. Harlow is a charming hero, albeit a rogue and his friends are just as attractive in their support of Caitlin.

To Wager the Marquis of Wolverstone: Having loved and lost, Marcus Danvers, the Marquis of Wolverstone has vowed never to give his heart to another. However, when the very woman who broke his heart suddenly appears in his life once again, begging a favour, he is intrigued despite a deep antagonism towards her. In an attempt to protect Marcus, Sabine, the Contessa Orsini, regrets the pain she caused him, but when the chance comes to avenge the past, Marcus is the perfect person to aid her. Although Marcus does succeed in his quest, things do not go according to plan, and it takes a gentle, softhearted girl to see through the subterfuge to bring two lovers back together. Marcus appears to be a stoney hearted man, but discovering the truth leads him to do everything in his power to protect Sabine. With the help of his stalwart friends, Marcus sets out to win his fair lady's hand once again.

To Challenge the Earl of Cravenswood: Having had a long-time crush on the devastatingly handsome Henry St. Giles, the Earl of Cravenswood, Lady Amy Shipton is surprised to see him take a tumble in his garden, potentially knocking himself out. Despite knowing that he is in his cups, Amy nevertheless cannot pass up the opportunity to find out what it would be like to be kissed by him. Henry has only ever viewed Amy as his neighbour's little girl and is shocked to realise that she has grown up once he recovers from his hangover. After many years of being in an intimate relationship with a woman he knows he cannot marry, he takes up the challenge his friends offer him, without divulging that he has already made up his own mind. If only Henry and Amy had taken time to actually talk to each other, instead of evading the real issue, so many misunderstandings would have been avoided. But when did the path of true love ever run smoothly?

All three of these novels are well written, witty and romantic. The characters overlap between the three books, but each one comes to a happy and romantic conclusion, leaving one with a feeling of pleasure. I was sorry when the stories came to an end. I received a copy of this boxset as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This a wonderful set of stories. Each one is over 80000 words, so it's going to last you a while. They are fun to read and you'll enjoy the devilment they get up to.

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield

Men should never bet against women, because it seems when they do the only thing they truly lose is their heart. That's what happened in this story, Caitlin determined to win her father's estate back challenges the Duke. There are also underlying causes to the whys of why the Duke set up Caitlin's father to lose his estates, but he hides these from Caitlin because he is intrigued by her. The story gets more tangled as the wagers continue. It's very enjoyable, and the chemistry between Caitlin and the Duke is explosive.

To Wager the Marquis of Wolverstone

This story starts out rather slow, but it is daring in its approach to reduce someone to ashes. The Countess is quite the daring woman for her century. The Marquis loves a wicked wager and this is one he can get into. Unfortunately, while getting revenge, the heart still beats for each other. This is a wager everyone or no one will win, except the reader.

To Challenge the Earl of Cravenswood

This the best one of the trilogy. Amy is delightful and and daring. The Earl is fond of his neighbor, and becomes more intrigued when he finds her routing around in his garden. He more intrigued by the owner of the emerald earring he found after kissing some strange woman in his garden the night before. This is a fun romp and Amy gives him a run for his money.

This is the first books I have read by Bronwen and let me tell you they will not be the last ! I just found a great new author !
These stories are about three friends. There is and Duke an Earl and a Marquis all with very different outlooks on life and society. We have a Rogue, a Reprobate and a Gentleman what a trio.
The women they meet are a Lady trying to save what she is sure the most important thing in her life.
Unloved all her life by her father she has been left on her own since her mother died when she was young. She will take on anyone and bet to win what she wants.
A beautiful French woman who suffered great pain when young, did what she thought was right even if it almost killed her. Will secrets from the past right Hugh wrongs of just make thing worst.
And last but not least a very pretty young lady who has love a certain gentleman forever he is her hero.
She also has never been close to her father. Now she is all grown up will he notice her ? Can there be any future for them or will her father make her marry his choice ?
So many questions and to find the answer's you need to get this great set and get started. I loved all the characters at one time or other, also was most upset with all the man and women at some point too. All the books are great and steamy so if that is not your thing unfortunately these are not for you.
I know I will be rereading this set again it's just so good. Which is high praise cause my TBR list is long enough to reach the moon and back! Ha Ha Hope you grab a copy and get started.

I love being able to read the books of a series in order so that the characters and their extended friends get to have their own stories also without me having to hunt them down in order. This 3 book bundle is a fabulous deal, not only because you get all 3 in order, but because if you need audiobooks, you get all 3 audiobooks in this bundle! It’s fabulous 😍. Marian Hussein is the narrator if you choose Audiobook format, and she’s a very gifted narrator who always does an excellent job. For the value, I’d say this is a do not miss bundle! ❤️

Triple Delight

Great 👍 to read the trilogy of 3 male friends. My favorite story was the one with Marcus & Sabine. Even though she was young, I have no idea why she could not have told Marcus about her secret, especially because she was so in love. I hate stories with women doing stupid things to save the man. I thought the man was the protector. Did not enjoy Harlow & Caitlin story at all. Henry & Amy great 👍sex.

3 1/2 I have read this before but have absolutely no memory of it. I enjoyed all three stories (other than the use of the exclamation Super! which just doesn't work for Regency romance) but I can already feel them trickling out of my mind leaving nothing behind.

Okay

This is the last book in this series, and probably a good thing. Nothing new here. A decent plot...characters are memorable from the first two books of the series. The very disappointing thing is the lack of imagination used to create the sex scenes....it is like the same exact pattern, only different rakes and ladies involved. So it got rather boring. You know what is going to happen. No creativity. I do applaud the author for not drawing out the angst and misunderstandings though. I dont think I would recommend this to anyone...its been done before...to death.

Great series

I usually do not like novellas as they are too as short and the story seems rushed. However these were different. The stories were well thought out and held my interest and the romance was well written.

I really enjoyed all three of these books. They are more modern romance set against a regency backdrop as opposed to an accurate portrayal of the restrictions of the time but I don't mind that.
