Revolt of the Haves: Tax Rebellions and Hard Times

Rate this book
Revolt of the Haves is about the great taxpayer revolt of the late 1970s. The national tax revolt spurred by California's Proposition 13 assumed the status of a political watershed, separating the New Deal-Great Society era from a newer, leaner period that found the public far more careful of tax dollars, and increasingly skeptical of the government's competence to solve problems. This sweeping narrative begins with a full recounting of the evolution of Prop 13.

Absolute banger, very captivating read considering this a book all about taxes. It might be old but it's still very relevant, not much seems to have changed in the last 50 to 60 years.

A good overview of the environment and people that lead to Proposition 13 and other similar property tax limiting measures.

Shocking how relevant this is to today -- both the explanations and the political climate.

The middle of the book did get a bit bogged down in full explanations of each different state's nuances, but a good read all the same.
