So when critics complain his love scenes are too cold, he seeks out the mysterious Alix Z to add her sexy, art house spin to his latest film. I wrote my first book when I was in high school--a romance called "A Wild and Stormy Passion," which featured swordplay, kidnapping, a pirate heroine, and lots of naughty bits (that came entirely from my adolescent imagination!). Since then, I've written young adult novels and adult romances of the category, contemporary, and fantasy varieties. My books are romantic and sensual. I like strong women and strong men and the sparks that fly when they get together.

I am a dabbler and an emotional sponge. I can't read scary books or anything with an unhappy ending. I reserve the right to enjoy country music, puppies, true love, and happily ever after.

If you're perusing my Goodreads shelves, you should know I only review books I want to share the word about. If you ask me, life's too short to read something you don't enjoy.

Story: VERY GOOD
Intimacy Level: VERY GOOD
Enjoyment: VERY GOOD
Length: 4566 kindle
Style: Hollywood / Contemporary Romance

An unexpected surprise for me was the story and how much I enjoyed it. Sexy and hot Hollywood director, Ryker Valentine, is directing the movie, Salva's Revenge. Because of his very first film with his sex scenes, Ryker, is not known for the smoothest sexual love scenes within his movies. So, after his partner, Gunther sees a few clips of the movie, he suggest he visits Alix Z for help. Alix Z is known to Hollywood as an erotic filmmaker, but she has become reclusive over the years and if seeking Alix's help will work for his love scenes, Ryker will do what he has to.

What I loved, is that the author gave Ryker and Alix some depth to them within the story. There was an actual storyline that I got wrapped up in as the past, emotions and feelings began to unravel between everyone. Ryker is known to be a sexy Hollywood hunk, but there was so much that was revealed about him from his past that you are seeing unfold as he tries to figure out what he wants while falling for Alix and struggling with his past didn't allow him to move forward in certain areas of his life. Alix is this amazing erotic filmmaker, but looks can be deceiving, as she doesn't look the part and she has her own past she is dealing with, but all Alix wants is love and that's what I love about her. I like what the author did in the first part of the story allowing us to connect with the characters and seeing the world of movie production. Once this took place the physical chemistry was great between Alix and Ryker. As much as I talk about loving the storyline, I thought this was still a sexy read as well once everyone stopped talking and got to it.

An added bonus, and what I'm an absolute sucker for, watching a secondary story between two other characters unfold; double the pleasure and double the fun for me. The author also intertwines the actors of the movie Salva's Revenge, Jake and Lena. Both these characters had there own issues they needed to deal with and is one of the reasons Alix is needed on the set for their chemistry. Their story was also a pleasure to see unfold and I must admit, what Jake did on the last day of shooting with Lena before the movie wrapped was just such a sweet moment for a woman I think, granted they didn't have privacy. At that point I was thinking to myself, Jake 1 and Ryker 0. but everyone got it together to deliver a wonderful ending.

I don't even know, what the author even attempted to do with this one, because it was as far from romantic, as it could have been. I'm giving this one 1 1/2 stars. I would have given this two complete stars, one for the writing and another one for the heroine if it wasn't because: 1. The writer forgot Labradors cannot be kittens and the Alex/Alix typos 2. I'm tired of seeing heroines bending over backwards to accommodate asshole heroes, just because they put on a sad face for five seconds.

Let's begin with the only good thing about this book, Alix:

I found "Exposing Alix" free on Amazon today, and started reading it thinking it would be a bit of a fluffy love story, but ended up engrossed in a wonderful love story. I was so caught up in the book that I read it in one sitting.
I ached for Ryker and Alix, two people who had been so hurt in the past that they wore blinders when it came to love. The author has a wonderful voice and wrote an excellent character driven story. As an aspiring author myself, I know what it takes to write so that the readers get involved in the story, and that they not only sympathize with the hero and heroine, but that they empathize with them. I was drawn into the story from the beginning, so BRAVA, Ms. Scott!
This is the first book I have read by Inara Scott, and I'm ready to devour more.

Oh, wow. I LOVED this book. Why? EMOTION. Deep POV.

I'll be honest, I usually like my books with more "happening" in terms of action. I usually read romantic suspense or paranormals, but this book blew my socks off. I don't have a lot of time to read, but I stayed up waaaay past my bedtime and finished it in 3 nights.

Alix/Daisy was vulnerable and real and passionate and true to herself. Ryker was a yummy package of hotness that sizzled on the page, yet the way he was drawn, I could see the sensitivity & hurt underneath the cultured facade. Their chemistry was incredible.

I would've liked a little less rapid wrap-up, but hey, I just didn't want to say good-bye.

If you're in the mood for a slow-it-down, put-your-feet-up-and-get-sucked-in story, this fits the bill.

I think this cover is very misleading, because while there is pretty epic sexytimes in the book, that's not the whole book.

I feel embarrassed about it but this book made me cry. Like Ugly Cry. I'm talking snot bubble and everything.

It's really good - great, well-though-out characters, interesting plot, and very few cliches both in the plot and in the writing.

I would definitely recommend this book, it kind of snuck up on me.

I am in a state of shock. I never knew erotic romance could be this good. Inara Scott really knows her stuff.

I'll be upfront about my motivation for reading this book. I'm trying to hit my 2014 Goodreads Challenge goal of reading 100 books this year and I'm running behind. Romance novels tend to be quick reads and this was recommended to me, so I picked it up.

I have rather low expectations of the genre. Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy romances, very much so, but I hardly expect them to be groundbreaking. Instead, I rely on the formulaic "they meet, they fall in love, something gets in their way, they overcome the obstacle" structure to provide me with instant gratification. We all know how it's going to turn out and there is great comfort in that happy ending to come. I also enjoy the verbal sparring between the main characters, that usually amuses me.

Exposing Alix sounded like a super cheesy love story. The character names (Ryker Valentine!?) and the ridiculous names of the movies they'd been involved in did not bode well for this story. However, this turned out to be one of the best contemporary romance novels I can remember reading.

The plot is original and it is clear that Scott knows a lot about the film industry, or at least enough to impress me (I've worked on film sets before and took Film Studies and Scriptwriting courses at university). She actually managed to work a subtle critique of the dominant male gaze in modern film into this sweet and sexy romance novel.

Alix and Ryker are both deeply flawed people trying to heal and find love, even though Ryker has convinced himself there is no such thing. Alix believes in love, but has fetishised the concept to such a degree that she has placed it out of the reach of normal human beings. She seems to be waiting for a choir of angels and clouds parting to reveal her one true love. Having never known love before, she doesn't realise that it's a messy, scary business.

Perhaps the most unusual part of this story is that Alix is determined to remain celibate until she finds true love. Despite the lack of the "thrusting members" other erotic novels tend to rely on, Scott manages to craft steamy love scenes without actual penetrative sex. The build-up is slow, with Ryker gaining Alix's trust and each encounter becoming more intimate until the finale.

Already my expectations were met and surpassed by the plot and the main characters, but it doesn't end there. The additional characters are beautifully fleshed out and play very meaningful roles in the story. A couple of scenes had me tearing up, because I was emotionally involved with these characters and their lives.

I am not one to recommend erotica to others. Enjoyment of these books is personal and it's a little bit embarrassing for me to recommend that others might enjoy the same sexy reads as I do. But shyness be damned in this case. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in reading it, except minors, obviously. Adults only!

If I hadn't read this book on my smartphone I would've thrown it against the wall so many times. But it also had parts that broke my heart until I cried and cried and cried some more.

The good: Alix is an interesting character, a social chameleon with strengths and weaknesses and a tendency to punish herself.
Ryker is also very interesting. He's a successful man with an arrogant outer shell and a scared and angry little boy center. His struggle with his identity and his family was really powerful.

The bad: Alix and Ryker together. When they first met Alix refused to give him the time of day, and with good reason because he was acting like a jerk. But at 3% into the book "Mysterious attraction" started to rear its ugly head, and her attitude sadly disappeared never to be seen again.
They bring out the worst in each other, he keeps pressuring her for emotionless sex even though she made it very clear she doesn't want to have sex without love.
She literally says that his respect is more than she could have expected. Respect isn't a "nice to have" it's a "must have". A relationship has to start with mutual respect and grow from there. Reading about a woman who's pleasantly surprised that her partner has finally started to respect her makes me want to throw my smartphone against the wall.
Ryker treats Alix like crap. I just don't get what her attraction is to him. And the way he lashed out in anger, he really needed to work on himself before participating in any social situations.

The awesome: Lena and Jake. They were just so painful and irresistible together, they made me cry a lot. In fact, there were times when they were my only reason to keep reading, and I would love for them to get their own book.
I also loved that Ryker finally connected with his family. That was beautifully done.

So in the end I can only say that this book was both lovely and annoying, a 2 and a 4 at the same time.

“Sometimes when we love, we get hurt.”

I expected this book to be like other adult novels, except with the unique Hollywood plot. Although I am not really sure about the plot, I gave this book a chance after enjoying Scott’s The Boss’s Fake Fiancee. Thank goodness, I did.

Ryker and Alix were the usual couple that comes from different sides. Their beliefs were totally opposite but the author managed to give this usual story a new spin by giving an unusual setting. What I liked most about this book is that the characters had depth. There was definitely more than meets the eye. Ryker was the typical cynic you’ll meet but has some real issues with his family deep inside. Alix was the girl who’s caught up with the idea of falling in love with the perfect man. As they worked on the movie, both were trying to disprove each other’s belief which later on became more personal. These two spark when they come together. Their chemistry is undeniable and despite their futile attempt to fight it, they still find themselves drawn towards each other.

Because of the nature of Alix’s previous job, I was actually quite curious how the sex scene would play out. She’s obviously good with it in her movies, so I was a bit expecting a graphical description but it wasn’t. It was sensual and full of passion. The author wow-ed me on how she managed to make the readers feel the emotions the characters felt and not due to the heat of the moment.

Other supporting characters were also well-written and did support the plot and MC’s character growth. I would also love to know more about Jake and Lena. Hopefully they’ll have their own book.

This book is well-paced, sensual and packed with real emotions. Scott made me fall in love with her characters and story once again.

I didn't LOVE this book but I far from HATED it. Therfore I'm in the sitting slightly above the median at 3.5 stars...

Overall I felt this story was kind of predictable. Alix (Daisy Zahn) was an in tune Romance and Erotic movie director who quit after having her heart broken. She left LA (predictable location and situation) and moved to Oregon. Feeling like she couldn't direct those types of movies without her heartache tainting them, she had thought she pulled herself out of the directing buisness. Or at least that was her intentions. Ryker was also a director but couldn't quite nail the Romantic feel in his movies. He sets off to Oregon to enlist the talents if Alix Z to help him get the romance scenes right so he may finally win an Oscar and the critics who hated his love scenes.

Predictable enough, she was reluctant to help him because he had a bad boy image and she wanted nothing more then to be around that. She started off as a strong character but seemed to lose her backbone shortly into the first little bit of the book. Alix actually annoyed me more often then not but thats because I prefer a stronger heroine. However, I love love love bad boys so Rykers character was instantly a hit for me. Lol

This book wasn't rushed at all. Actually the beginning was very slow paced compared to most of the books I normally read but did pick up a lil before I hit the half way mark. I wasn't turned off completely by Exposing Alix so this will not be my last Inara Scott book.

This was a fast, light and entertaining read with an unusual story line. The characters of Alix and Ryker, along with the supporting case, were realistic and well-rounded. By the end of the book, I felt as though I knew a lot about them and cared what happened to them. I also liked the fact that Ryker was comfortable enough in his own skin to not only be open to Alix's suggestions without feeling threatened, but also to help her gain confidence in herself as well. By the end of the book, I was confident that each of them would be able to help the other grow and maybe even to heal some old wounds.

At first, I was worried that because of Alix's profession, the sexual encounters might be a little over the top. However, Ms. Scott did a marvelous job of keeping the intimate scenes sensual rather than overly graphic - for which I'm grateful as I believe some things are better left to the imagination! So many adult romances these days have become far too graphic for my taste and as a result, I find myself reading a lot of YA novels. In fact, that was how I discovered Inara Scott's Delcroix Academy YA series, which I heartily recommend as well.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Ryker is successful actor-director but his movie is lack of romantic side
If he wanted to win the Oscar, he need the help from Alix Z.

Alix Z. is once the director. She brought romantic & love to the film.
She knew one day she will quit to do something she really love , Photograph.

After three years spending time with the photography book , she knew it lacked of something.
something that she can't figure out.

After three years without money , She was nearly broke.
So she accepted when Ryker offered her to be his consultant in his current filming movie.

When they were together, the chemistry between them was obvious.
But Alix vowed that she never do the deed with out love. She used that vow to protect herself.
And even she knew there is some attraction between she and Ryker.
She never let herself broke the vow. knowing that Ryker never did love.

Ryker who famous for his one night stand had a worst thought about love.
He never believe in it and thought of it as somekind of nonsense.

However, They are gradually accept the flawed and learn the truth behind their believe.

MY HEART IS FULL OF LOVE!!

“Alix Z.” AKA Daisy Zahn is a successful director of romantic and erotic movies. She has left the loveless city of Hollywood, and settled in a seaside town in Oregon with her dog. Currently working on “her book” she spends her time photographing couples in love having sex. Ryker AKA Ricardo, a bad-boy big-hit Hollywood actor/director is having trouble with his latest film. His stars can’t make their love scenes real. Encouraged by his producer, Ryker seeks help from the infamous “Alix Z.” to improve his film and make it Oscar worthy. This book has great potential. In fact, I believe it would make a great movie!! Alix and Ryker’s conversations are full of smart and sassy banter. This IS a romance FULL of sexual tension as it explores how the opposite sexes regard SEX and LOVE. This is a real problem – YING and YANG! The writing Is high quality – and in some cases one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. BUT, because the writing is SO good, I expected more of the sex scenes. I wanted them to find each other in a classier way, and some of their initial encounters were just – not my taste. Ryker grabbing and groping Alix drops this story to 4 hearts.

I think the former cover is so much better:

description

This cover fits the plot much better, since the plot involves the making of a film. This is where our heroin, Alix comes into the picture. She was hired to film the love scenes in the movie since our director, Ryker, finding it difficult. The roots to this matter is because he doesn't believe that love exist.
There is long journey to change this view of his but don't worry, he managed to do it in the end. Ryker and Alix, both of them had their own insecurities and issues and it was worth reading about how the overcome those things. Overall, I really liked the story. The reason to why I didn't gave it a full rating was because of how the story was written. It was a bit slow in some places which makes it very easy to lose focus of the story. It didn't quite reach up to the flow I wanted in a story, but it's a good story nevertheless.

Another good book by Inara Scott. I found this book very emotional. Both Ryker and Alix Z were very vulnerable throughout the book. They were both opposites in the beginning... Alix beleived in love (through her photo book) and Ryker thought love was only a bunch of bull. It seemed to be a little slow in the beginning, but then took off. I really liked Ryker from the beginning of the book. I hated that Alex Z was distant from him where you can see she really liked him. I don't know if I could have pulled away from Ryker as much as she did in the beginning of the book. The scene in the 'editing room' was hot, that's when the book takes off. As always... got to have my HEA books!

Worth the read

Ryker Valentine is a successful actor-director who has always been nominated for an Oscar, but has not quite made it there. Alix Z is known for her epic sex scenes in Hollywood. Ryker goes to Alix for help in search for that trophy.

The dilemma: Ryker does not believe in the romanticism of love. Sex is lust not love. Alix believes in capturing the very basis of love through sex.

This book has so many emotions. I found myself laughing, crying, and relating to some of the characters. There is even two stories happening and once which makes the title "Exposing" such a perfect term to what is actually happening.

It's a great read and I look forward to other stories form Ms. Scott.

Don't let the title or titillating blurb fool you (like it did me) - This one is a keeper! I was very surprised by the quality, depth, and excellent character building in this book. I loved Alix (Daisy) and fell for Ryker. I had expected fluff and entertainment, and instead I was pleasantly surprised by an emotional, thoughtful story with a strong story. Instead of fluff, I got substance. Instead of quickly drawn characters, the protagonists were likable and you became immediately invested in what was happening with them. The story was very well written, and paced perfectly. This one is a gem, and one you'll want to read again.

Sometimes a girl just wants to read a steamy romance and Exposing Alix is a perfect book to fill that want. It checks off every box—-chemistry between the protagonists, depth to the plot and the characters that moves beyond just romance, asking the big questions about love, life, death and what is real and what is not. Inara does an amazing job of balancing vulnerability and a dark past of both her characters with a hopeful and optimistic romance storyline. Alix is ADORABLE while Ryker is a strong masculine lead without being a dominating asshole (as seems to be all the rage these days, blech). All in all, Exposing Alix was a perfect lazy Sunday indulgent read.

I've got to say, I really liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It's been on my kindle forever and I just decided to read it now. The title and the cover led me to believe it would be some sort of fluffy, superficial storyline. But it so wasn't! The plot was original and interesting and the character development was deep -- the reasoning behind both main characters "toying" with their names to become someone different than who they were ashamed of being in their youth was genius. It was about the meaning of love -- family love and romantic love, and the characters overcoming their fear of rejection instilled in them from their childhoods. Loved it.

There was lots of emotion in this story of two people directing a film together. I like the setting in LA and that it featured one of my favorite character types, the celebrity hero, although his fame was not much of an issue in the book.

The author did a great job with the story. The h/h spend a lot of time together, get to know each other. Sex takes a back seat to the development of the relationship. The pacing was perfect and the dialogue good.

I didn't think there was anything structurally amiss with this novel. I only wish the story had gone on longer. I wanted more moments between the characters; more drama. It just felt like it went by too fast.

The back and forth switch between Daisy and Alix was a little confusing. I wanted it more clear cut. Otherwise, I enjoyed Alix/Daisy and Ryker together.

I would probably read this author again.

This was a great story. Alix is a young girl who is living a isolated life in Oregon, because she has been hurt. She is asked to come to Hollywood and help actor/director Ryker with his movie. They have a strong attraction, but Ryker doesn't believe in love and Alix tries to keep her distance from him. I liked the characters in this story, especially Ryker. This is the first book I have read from Inara Scott and it was a a delightful surprise. Great story, writing and characters.

This is my first Inara Scott book and although I have not totally warmed up to her style yet, I'm liking it enough and already planning on looking for the rest of her stuff. Okay, maybe it wasn't so much as warming up to IS's style of writing as much warming up to Ryker's character. I really wanted to kick his ass. No, really. And because IS really put together a great narrative, POV-wise.

After wiping the tears away and smiling about the ending and thinking about all that happened in this book. One thing should be clear, true love does exsist. It comes in all shapes and sizes and usually sneaks up on you when you least expect it to. That is what happened to Ryker. Once Daisy entered his life, they became one.

The writing is exceptionally good and the plot is different but the whole concept is the same as the others. I guess I was used to reading about a guy who doesn't believe in love and a girl who is hopeless romantic.

But what I admire were the emotions of Alix and Ryker is well defined. Their conversations were good that their conflicts was clearly shown.

I am a huge fan of Inara Scott now. Her romances bring something more than just heat to the table. Although there's a lot of that, too. Alix Z (aka Daisy Zahn) shows a lot of character growth in this book and so does the hero Ryker. I actually wished it was even longer so I could see even more of their interaction with the family.
