Rate this book
The first three books in the Afterlife series by international Best-Selling Author Willow Rose.

Book 1 - BEYOND
Meghan is 16 when she dies.
She wakes up on a flying steamboat on her way to a school run by Angels in a white marble castle.
On the boat she meets Mick who has been dead for more than a hundred years but still looks like a teenager. He helps her past the difficult beginning at the new school in a new world filled with magic.
One day some of Meghan's roommates find a mirror in the cellar of the school and they persuade her to go through it with them - well knowing it is strictly against the rules of the school. Meghan ends up back on earth where she meets Jason. But Jason is in danger and Meghan knows something important. Something that is a matter of life and death. Soon she is forced to choose between the two worlds. The one she belongs to now and the one she left.

Book 2 - SERENITY
It is Meghan's second year at The Academy.
While trying to help and care for Jason on earth she is struggling to keep up in school, where they this year will learn both to ride Pegasus' and fly through severe storms. Meanwhile Mick is becoming more than a friend to her and soon she finds herself facing the unavoidable choice.
But something evil is threatening the students at the Academy and Meghan is no longer safe within the walls of the castle. Something causes several of the students to be caught in the middle of a nightmare, that they can't wake up from.
Soon they realize that they might have a traitor in their midst.
Praise:
This was a wonderful sequel. Every bit as good as the first book in the series. Now on to the third one - I am really excited to see what happens next. I can recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good paranormal romance. /Goodreads

Book 3 - ENDURANCE
Meghan's training at the Academy is coming to an end. Everything is going great as she comes closer to graduation. She is engaged to be married and the wedding is near when she hears some disturbing news that makes her rethink her future.
In class the students are learning to catch dreams and fly with the speed of light. Meghan soon discovers her special talents and that she is much stronger than she thought. But unfortunately that doesn't help her as she faces the truth about her own death, which will be revealed to her at the end of the year.
Endurance is the third book in Willow Rose's Afterlife series about a young girl's life after death.
Praise:
I hope there will be more in this series because I have enjoyed getting to know Meghan and her friends, Mick, Jason, and the teachers at the Academy.

Caution: Spoilers ahead.
This is the third time I've tried to write a review and the app has crashed twice now, so I'll keep it short.

I'm not recommending anyone without a good sense of self to read this book. I just can't. It reads like someone who is really religious wanted to write a conservative option for their kids to read instead of that satanic Harry Potter. And thats okay. I can deal, don't mind the snickering. I'd argue there's a fair bit of plagiarism going on, too, but honestly that's not what bothers me about this series.

The utter non issue the author makes of Meghan's verbal and mental abuse and eventual rape at the hands of one of the men she loves IS. She seriously doesn't fight back, doesn't have a thought besides 'now I don't owe him anything. ' The girl doesn't have any respectful, sane relationship with any man except her best friend and the teachers, whose names I can't spell so I'm gonna be lazy. By the end of the third book Meghan and Mick are getting married, because -SURPRISE! !- she's pregnant. From his rape. Which was her first time. Impressionable young people, don't think this is sexy or proof he loves you or okay. Get angry. Tell the big ass angel in your life. Apparently rape is the one thing they don't know about.

I can't, I can't.
I really can't.

And another thing. What kind of angels condone that kind of behavior? Rape seriously is an option in pre-heaven?

It gets one star. Just one, since I think there was potential for this idea. No, wait. In fact, I'm taking that star away. This has been done before with better writing, better execution, original characters, and a whole lot less abuse. The only thing I can say is the author does have a way with setting up the next book. I don't have it and don't want it. ..but I did think about buying it.

The series is like a car wreck: you don't want to look but OMG you can't stop looking.

this was like a terrible rip-off of Harry potter, but in heaven instead of with witchcraft, maybe for conservatives who want another option? whatever, it's nice for conservative teens to have an option, right? (warning, spoilers) That might've worked, except for the crazy controlling boyfriend who eventually rapes her and she not only doesn't seem to feel angry, but feels like she OWED him up to then, so she guesses they're square. and then in the end they get married because of the rape baby she is now pregnant with. .. so I guess sex still causes babies even after death. This isn't a love story. it's a story about how one girl (with apparently no self worth) accepts her abuse. what is with YA fiction having controlling sicko boyfriends who watch the girl sleeping without her inviting them to even be there? if I woke up with a guy standing over my bed, he'd be getting slapped with a restraining order, whether he's "hot" or not!

It book review, Warning Spoilers for Book 3

============
===BOOK 1===
============
Brought the boxset from Amazon a while back. Just finished first book, when ive completed all three books i will be posting full boxset review on Amazon..

Meghan an interesting enough character. The book starts with her dead. Big surprise right??

She has no memory, well that's incorrect she has no personally memory attained to herself except her name and few facts here and there, the author set this up so she wouldn't be stuck dwelling on the physical world, to cut attachments from her previous life, which is a big role in this book and a smart interesting concept.

One of her first afterlife memory is on a boat going to academy to learn about the afterlife and rules (which are bit ambiguous) to prepare them for what happens after the academy (whatever that is) we seem to have seen three examples... chef(alex), teachers and spirit collectors?

It stated that the afterlife runs time differently (faster) to the human world, but this was pulled off poorly and very confusing. For example she visits Jason night after night and they seem to match with his time line? after being stated that it moves faster (meaning earth time moving slower being left behind. I forgot the exact displacement-ratio) So if she returning every night from the academy shouldn't she be popping up all over the place throughout the day?

Also at the end when she travels with the Angels back to earth two years has passed. It didn't explained how that happened i just put it down to Angel Time-Travel...

Overall the think the time aspects added to this story were unnecessary and confusing (except angel time travel, to show consequences)

This story does pose some tricky questions about right and wrong. The best example is when Meghan goes to the hospital, and the dark spirits try to tempt her... To be honest good doesn't seem to be that good in this story, what the dark spirits said made sense, though then they a portrayed completely different causing discord, belittling, bullying, emotional abuse etc etc..

But that doesn't mean the "good" is great, they seem to be all about free will and leaving people to make their own decisions, or leaving them to their own devices, their own course in life, even if this means an innocent is brutally abused and murdered.. Oh don't get me wrong they can whisper words of encouragement and try influence it subtly, but it doesn't seem to be enough...

One of the biggest offput about the good, is the preaching for people to forgive.. So if someone getting physically abused they should just accept it and forgive? I know they a piece in the bible that preaches jesus turning the other cheek (not attacking anyone religion), but im my opinion forgiveness should not just be handed out, in that case you're just enabling them to do it again.

It seen in this book as the stepfather being an abusive drunk and even the mother defends his actions as "He will be good in the morning.". People like that frustrate me.

This book seems to be black and white, but in reality there a plenty of shades of gray... If i was Meghan at the end of this book, i would i have should my non-corporeal hand in the step-father and materialized it, killing him to save someone else? Is that good/evil.. I would have been convinced i was doing a good thing, by doing a bad thing...

I don't know what going to happen to Jason and I hope she doesn't get with Mike... I also do not want her to get with Jason.. It would be like Nate from soul-screamers, the pairing i hated glad it seemed to move to Todd..

First book completion on kindle says 28% so i figure about 70% minus title pages and exit pages...

============
===BOOK 2===
============
I have to agree with Charlotte goodreads review (http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/15...)..

I also really hate the relationship aspect in this book. I mean really hate it... I don't like either Jason or Mick... The hate Jason and I hate how Meghan is hung up on him. I hate how Meghan seems to be with Mick just because it better than being alone... I hate how Mick acts AND the engagement was just a joke, Plus how Mick thought that gave him the right on how to tell Meghan what to do... ARGHHHH!

This book driving me insane... Cries.... Meghan comes off as incredible naive,,, The angels are too Un-Angel-Like? (don't have a word)...

Why am i putting myself through this... Seriously Why.... Ahhh Right I paid for the boxset and I want to know Meghan role and why the story revolves around her, what so special about her.. The Angels seem to know, hell that Teacher who comes of as evil, but also looks as is she is helping her.. (like Snape from Harry Potter, i cant remember been a long time since i read the books.)

This series also resembles the Mythos series by Jennifer Estep.. Loki>Azazel, Champion of Mythos/Children > Spirits..

Except Mythos is a MUCH MUCH better series... I really enjoy the Mythos series,, this i seem to be banging my head a lot (not literally)

For those who are curious... From the boxset available from Amazon book 2 ends at 63%...

Clicks the next button on kindle... Book 3: Ensurance.... Should I? Drops head on table.... Why!!! This is like the time i read Brandon Sanderson Warbreaker (Which was a lengthy book i found boring, but was determined to finish because i got it and it had good reviews).. I should of probably wrote a review on that book..

============
===BOOK 3===
============
ARGHHHHH! With each book in this series my frustration has grew.

What does this book promote.. Mick basically raped her, she just stood there and let it happen... ARGHHH :@ Not only that but she still blushes and that when she around him and forgives him... I mean seriously WTF!

If Meghan has no respect for her-self, then I have no respect for her..

This book promotes forgiveness in the worse way possible.... Mick should be thrown to perdition for his actions, but nope he in heaven he tries to force a girl into marriage, rapes her, gets her pregnant..

Then she see's Jason in heaven and realizes she loves him truly but decides to marriage Mick because she got impregnated when she was basically raped. Promotion of abuse and broken marriages of what.

I admit in Rosey case I don't know what choice I would have made.. I would of wanted to throw her to hell for killing me, but i would have wanted to save her for her husband and child sake (not for Rosey personally.)

In this book, the angels are manipulative jerks... Hell the idea of Azazel becoming more and more appealing. True he is 'evil' but at least you know what you getting and he is mostly honest about it..

I really must be glutton for punishment... I want to find out why some of her memories where missing..... AHHHH STUPID CURIOUS NATURE I HAVE AND THE NEED TO KNOW... Cries...

Good read

I really enjoyed this series. Waiting on the 4th book that I think finishes up the series?? But you never know. She is a great author. I wish some millionaire author's like SK and JP would offer a free book every now and then.

once I got past the initial Harry-Potter-but-spirits-not-wizards feel I really got into the story. mike annoyed the hell out of me and was possessive and in that case reminded me of Edward Cullen. apart from that I thought the story concept was good and really made you think of the afterlife and if that could potentially happen, some aspects I believe would happen, but the whole spirit school not so much. I am not religious in the slightest in fact I am on the fence on the whole god thing, but it did make me think a bit more about the whole afterlife thing.

This was a great series and I'm glad I happened upon it. The box set was free off of a bookbub deal on Amazon and I liked them so much that I went and purchased the last book today so I could see what happens next. This is one of those series that once you start reading you can't put it down. I enjoyed every twist and turn along the way and found my self gasping, crying, choking up on many occasions, and laughing out loud. Only thing that got me was the editing. it was distracting to say the least.

Heaven.

The 'Afterlife Series' is not the kind of books I usually read. As the author Willow Rose is on my list of favourites I thought I would give them a go. Boy did they impress. Even though none of us know what happens when we die.... These books are so nice and made me feel at ease with dying. Can't wait to read number four.

A fabulous read

Another story to grip your imagination. Dying is not the end of all your troubles. Love, hate, adventure there is a little bit of everything as you follow the stories of Meghan, Mick and Jason. Fear not when the Angels run the school. Definitely well worth a read and for all the Willow Rose fans, this does not disappoint.

Horrible writing!

CONTAINS SPOILERS

When I have difficulty continuing with any story I go to the reviews left online and read them, because if I'm not connecting with the book I want to see if others feel the same, or is it just me. In this case it is not just me. And when I read the reviews that relate specifically to books 2 and 3 regarding the rape and how it is handled, I feel 100% justified in dumping this series. There are too many great books out there waiting to be read to waste anymore time on this set.

I'm always interested to see how an author is going to build 'the afterlife'. As someone whose faith has waivered throughout my lifetime I enjoy exploring how others project life beyond death. This story makes and breaks it's own rules from one page to the next. There's absolutely no consistency in the story lines, for example, those who reach the afterlife do not remember anything about their life or how they died, but the h is remembering everything. The students cannot go outside of the Academy boundries before they complete their 3 years of training; the h is reprimanded for going outside of the boundries, and then is also aided by another spirit in when to go, then she is firmly told she can never go outside the boundries again, but then she's given free reign to go out and spend time with Jason, which becomes her obsession. This is all happening in the first book.

If these occurances aren't enough to make one dump this series, the explanation of how God works in deciding who to help and when, and how one gets into Heaven and when, are, again, all over the board.

I've emassed a Kindle library over the years mostly from free books that now is nearly 20,000 books. Beside this one I have 47 others by this author. Clearly she is widely read, but if this set is an example of her writing style, I'll place her on my blacklist.

First I have to say it took me awhile to really get into this book. I kept putting it aside and either writing myself, reading something else, or binging TV. I’d forget about it as it moved down the page and newer books crept to the top. But about six weeks ago I had a weekend of tonic-clonic (convulsive) seizures when I ran out of my anti-epilepsy meds and during one I managed to break my leg in three places, from knee to ankle, compound and clean through at the shin. So I’ve had a lot of time on my hands, self pitying in bed, finally getting through that old TBR list, and HELLO - came across this. Contrary to other reviewers, I fail to see a similarity between it and Harry Potter...a good thing because I can’t even finish one book in that series (seriously, I completely don’t get the hype, and I’ve tried - just BORING, books and films, ugh). But I can get behind this series. It’s different and the plot/moral has meaning. Things are messy, but that’s real life. Seriously, try the series, but stick with it rather than putting it aside. At least make sure you’re not passing over something that could be wonderful for YOU.

Who knew being dead could be so wild!!

Willow Rose is tackling the afterlife! Meghan wakes up as a spirit on a steamboat flying through the air on her way to the Academy of the Spiritual Realm where she will be a first-year student. Not at all what she was expecting in the afterlife. Of course, she wasn’t expecting to die at sixteen either. The three Afterlife books are the story of Meghan life during her three years at the Academy. The storyline is an interesting premise – riding rainbows, cloud surfing, learning to walk through solid objects – but also evil spirits that tempt the students, romance and heartache.

I enjoyed the books as they followed Meghan from a new spirit just learning about her talents to a powerful graduate of the Academy and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The Afterlife series box set books 1 - 3

I first discovered this author after reading one of her other books and enjoyed it so much I ordered this box set. I was not disappointed at all. I love these books. The story starts with a young girl dying and being taken to Heaven. She goes to a school for 3 years to train in preparation to live in Heaven. Other wonderful and interesting spirits and angels are in the book learning to fly, to pass through walls, and other wonderful fun things. There is danger and mystery involved through each year and a love triangle too. The4th and last book in this series has been ordered and I can’t wait to start reading it. I highly recommend these books.

I have finally finished reading not only this but the fourth book. This book was supposed to be the complete series. And probably when I got it, it was all the author had ready. But the ending was a cliffhanger. Had that been all, I would have been very disappointed.

Still, the three-book set was fun. One has to put aside theology and think of this as fantasy, and the characters' abilities were so fun. I loved the main character, Meghan, and the way she cared for others.

On the other hand, the antagonist is too much.

Oh, the people you meet along the way. Einstein, can you believe it? No? Well, it's fantasy, okay?

This is definitely a young adult series. There is far too much romance Ugh! But hey, it's a story and it was a fun read.

I'm writing this review about all FOUR books in this series - there's one more, the last one, called Courageous. I didn't realise at first that it was aimed at young adults. I'm 70 and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It is expertly written, as one would expect. It isn't a romance - this is Willow Rose after all - but it does tell a story of a place immediately after death, where obsessive, destructive love destroys all reason, attempts to wipe out what is meant to be and ultimately pays the price. Don't let the Young Adult tag put you off - this is a great series!

"The Afterlife Series" is an enjoyable read. I read all of the books in consecutive order and I was definitely kept entertained in interested.

"Afterlife" series is a story line that takes place in a between place for the recently deceased. The author is very imaginative and provides her readers with a story that grabs your attention and keeps you engaged and reading.

If you are looking for something different to read, I recommend you give this series a try.

Angels and Devils

A deeply moving story which was enthralling and spiritual in a strange way. It was the story of one girl's afterlife and how she moves on after death. The characters were varied and yet made a pattern that was enchantingly beautiful. I cannot wait to read the final book and catch up on Meghan and Mick's story. Willow certainly has the gift of creating both characters and thrilling settings for them.

This is the first three of a four Book series. It is excellent young adult material. When you die, at least in Megan's case, you wake up on a paddle boat with no memory of your past life. Megan is a soul that has to attend the academy. All the souls must attend for three years and graduate before entering heaven. The afterlife is a lot like living, except you weigh next to nothing and you learn to fly. There is drama, mean girls, and cute guys.

Good story, but...

I enjoyed this series all the way thru til almost the very end. The direction Ms Rose took the main character after she experienced a horrific event was quite troubling for me. I hope the final book sheds more light on why the story went in that particular direction. 2.7/5🌟

Brilliant!

This is a brilliant conceptualization of how the afterlife could be. Yesterday I was being taken by ambulance to the hospital and was begging the paramedic to save my life so I could finish my book. He did, and I did, but he was astonished at the title and subject matter.

Teen Story

I love the stories by this author but struggled with this one. Probably more a young adult story interesting about the afterlife ABIT like harry potter in that newly deceased spirits have to go through an academy to learn how to be spirits. Fantastic creatures and demons to deal with

It was brilliant! I can't wait to read the final book and find out the blank chapter in Meghan's earthly life. Surely she will fight the evil and help the frozen students too right? Oh and I want to attend their wedding in Phoenix Garden too! Wait for me, I'm coming!

The story concept was great but I really just got so annoyed with the main character she was just so whiny and very selfish. I really struggled to finish all three books because of the main character.
