I think this is a great little book giving 12 reminders of God's gifts to us. I originally decided to read this because I was grieving the death of a good friend and definitely hurting. I'd read that the author had also dealt with death and assumed that it would maybe focus specifically on that issue.

However, this book is for those who are hurting in any capacity. Or even those who aren't hurting at all! It's full of hope and scriptures. I think it is designed more as a "Read a 'Day' a Day" type book, but I just sat and read it all at once. Super quick read, but super powerful as well.

I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Religious

If you're religious this might help. Unfortunately if you're not its a lot of bible passages that just make you feel more disconnected.

I picked up this book as a freebie when I was going through a particularly dark time in life, and expected to read it right away (well, that Christmas, at least). However, it got put aside until this year, when I'm actually in a very good place, mentally, and emotionally. Which, is what leads me to say that I think the title of this book is insufficient.
This isn't just 12 days of Christmas for the hurting, though, all of us are hurting at some point in our lives. This is 12 days of Christmas for us all!
I loved how she enumerated 12 gifts that the Saviour gives to us, expounding on each one during that day's reading. She used Scripture to back up her points, and encouraged the reader to 'keep on keeping on' and claim the promise of that day's gift. Especially lovely was that she reminded us each day what the previous days' gifts were and classed it as the old carol does: On the 12th Day . . . my True Love gave to me . . .
I really enjoyed this one. 4.5 stars

Grief therapy

This uses the famous Christmas Carol to show the 12 things that God gives us to make our way through grief. Because of the method chosen it works better for Christmas time but really could be used to help at any time. Each day is a couple of pages long. It would be best to take each day and meditate on it for a day.

When you start reading it, you think it's about one thing but you will soon discover it's about so much more. It's a message of hope, faith, and of love.
