Dating Husbands

Bianca has three loves: her job, her cat, and Bloody Marys. Not necessarily in that order. Life is good, the best, until Drew sabotages Bianca's black and white world and forces her to see the gray in it. Which is really annoying, as it disrupts her Bloody Mary drinking time.

Drew Montgomery left his old life to start a new one, but still the past continues to haunt him. Bianca Fisher makes him forget, gives him hope, and confounds him, all at once, and from just one encounter. Drew tells himself to run, to run away and fast, but his feet won't listen. Neither does his heart.

This was too much like chick lit for me, I was hoping for more romance but that was sacrificed for zany characters doing crazy *jazz hands* stuff.

It was a little like the feeling I get when I'm watching a naff sitcom, where I'm wondering why the studio audience is pissing itself laughing when I'm just thinking ..."nah, as if" and, "ffs, just tell him..."

It was ok in parts and the storyline was fairly original, I just wish it hadn't tried so hard to be funny. And some smut would have been nice, but there wasn't even any heat. Not a hit for me I'm afraid.

First of all I want to say this without giving anything away... This book had the perfect ending, which is not something I think often. I loved it from start to finish. It was hilarious and I laughed on almost every page, which was something I needed. I do suggest anyone who reads this not to eat while doing so, for it is a health risk.

Cute story even though the main character often got on my nerves more than I found her to be funny as the author intended. Maybe it was my mood? At any rate I did enjoy the story and was happy with the ending.

I really enjoyed this story. I did a re-read of it and it still holds up. The author has an amazing knack for creating characters that seem real.

HYSTERICAL, A NEW FAVORITE

An amazingly funny story that's unique! This book had me in hysterics! The writing is superb, as always with a Lindy Zart book. She writes people with so much character, they are a joy to read about.

Rating: Top Shelf A fun weekend read!

Totally not what I expected. Lindy Zart has made me cry, had me on the edge of my seat, and in awe of her setting descriptions. I know she is a funny person on Facebook, but I was not expecting the slapstick that came from her female characters' dialogue. Bianca and her sister, Gwen, are constantly dropping lines that you only hope to remember the next time you're with friends.

"I’m so worried I’m going to make a wrong decision. I just… I just don’t want to be in another marriage like I was in with Marcus. I don’t want my husband to end up being a transvestite bowling alley robber....” Zart, Lindy (2013-12-22). Dating Husbands (p. 377). . Kindle Edition.

Besides being funny and a great weekend read, Dating Husbands was also full of emotion... from the male lead, Drew. Wha?!??! I know! The guy is the emotional wreck here. Drew has a past that haunts him daily in the form of anxiety attacks, and it's not a former lover that has broken his heart; something far greater, a love for someone he never knew. Unintentionally, Bianca helps Drew see that there is more living left to his life.

Giving your heart to someone was like giving them unimaginable power over you. It could backfire and in a totally unlikable way. Zart, Lindy (2013-12-22). Dating Husbands (p. 348). . Kindle Edition.

Bianca's chosen career, her parent's marital status and her own dating history only confirm her beliefs on fidelity.  Even though her cousin and sister love and support her, they know that it's wrong and Bianca needs to see it for herself. I won't mention her career here, because I feel it's introduction is a great surprise. It's a really original storyline.

“I see it almost every day, Gwen. I see it... I see it in you even. You think you need a guy in your life to be whole. Women need to realize they’re whole on their own. They don’t need a guy; they don’t need anything but themselves to be happy. All I’ve ever seen, and lived, is us being hurt by them. It’s not right, Gwen.” Zart, Lindy (2013-12-22). Dating Husbands (Kindle Locations 3390-3393). . Kindle Edition.

Drew and Bianca are oil and vinegar that emulsify so perfectly, they just needed time and effort. Drew knows that he wants to start a life with Bianca and Bianca has feelings for Drew, but both of their unspoken secrets keep them from moving forward.

It was hard to draw air into her lungs and Bianca took short, shallow breaths.  It was over.  It was going to be over with Drew before it had even begun. Crap, that made her infinitely sad. Like, tears in her eyes sad. Zart, Lindy (2013-12-22). Dating Husbands (Kindle Locations 4532-4533). . Kindle Edition.

I just loved all the situations the characters found themselves in; backing over a love interest with her car; blacked out office to confess secrets; girls night in, including hair crimping (where the hell did they find a hair crimper?). I couldn't put this book down until the end, and what a great ending it was too!

*Lindy has been posting excerpts for a book she is working on called ROOMIES. Based off the reaction from her followers, she suggested we read Dating Husbands, as it has the same comedic draw. We'll be sure to post info. on this next book on our Facebook page.

Lindy's next big book, UNLIT STAR, will be out AUG '14 and I HIGHLY suggest you add it to your Goodreads shelf.

So I was gifted this book by a fellow fan of Lindy Zart. And, uh, my review may or may not be about two years late (don't judge me).

Dating Husbands is a sort-of light read, full of sarcasm (that not everyone can appreciate) and tons of moments that make you laugh out loud. Bianca's prickly exterior is the consequence of her parents' estrangement and other failed relationships, and causes her to see the world as this or that, without a middle ground.

Bianca is a real person because her everyday experiences were real, from playing dancing games on Wii to enjoying her Bloody Mary's. We see her grow throughout the story, and see her start to see the gray areas of life, where not everything can be classified as right or wrong.

Drew is the type of man Bianca avoids because of the prejudice that she has developed. He is the gray area, although Bianca tries to categorize him into the black void of life.

Bianca's family is real because of the weird circumstances involved in many of the relationships. No family is perfect, and Bianca's family dynamics are pretty diverse and complicated. Through her family, we learn about Bianca's past and how certain experiences have shaped her to be the somewhat bitter person that we read about.

Drew is a lone character, with no family save for his wife. He is haunted by an event which causes him to leave his wife. He isn't jaded like Bianca, but his life, like hers, has been anything but simple.

I loved this story, like I love any story that can make me laugh. But I loved it also because the characters are real and complicated; they aren't perfect. I love it when the characters are people I can relate to.

This book gets 4 out of 5 Platypires from me.

An overdue review, because I'm slow >.<

From the very first line, I knew I was going to enjoy the book. Bianca Fisher is a no nonsense, sassy, witty, and somewhat, okay full on, bitter woman. but she had her reasons. Anyone who had been in her shoes would be as well. Lindy graced life to Bianca that many people can relate to. Everything about the book made me smile, laugh, and towards the end, I found myself wiping away tears. Good tears. The way the characters interacted with each other made me feel as though I was a fly on the wall, witnessing every moment. There were times where I was literally laughing out loud and my husband had actually asked if I was okay, followed by "it's that good huh?" He knows me too well. Anyway, this had been an awesome read, and I fully recommend this to everyone that hasn't read it. And because of the English major in me, I have to say this: aside from some minor grammatical errors, this is a very well written book. Seriously, pick this book up. You won't regret it.

I want to thank Lindy Zart for giving me the opportunity to read this book...I see great potential in her writing style but this particular book was a little out there in the over all plot...without giving to much away, it just didn't flow for me. Bianca the main character didn't seem happy to me as was described in the book description she seemed bitter and a hater of love....the plot goes back and forth between her freaky family and her bitterness towards her ex (which was warranted on some level) In comes Drew which I really enjoyed his character but again wasn't described well in the description by saying he was running from Bianca but to me he seemed to be running towards her and was strangely drawn to her. He was my favorite character in this story, the most real person, I felt for him in the story and rooted for his happily ever after. I would read another story by Lindy, this one just wasn't a favorite.

"What the Flip;" Dating Husbands was a continuous comical laugh-out loud romance novel. Without relating to much information, I will never ever see another wig the same way again. For Bianca one bad apple did spoil the whole bunch for her, leaving her alone and bitter. She has an interesting P.I. job, an eccentric dysfunctional family (wait until uncle Bill is introduced) and the only obstacle in her life is the inability to love herself much less someone else. In comes Drew and the rest you need to read the novel to find out. I am amazed with Lindy Zart's versatility in writing different genre books. I am glad because in my opinion, I made a good choice reading Dating Husbands last and sad because since reading all of Lindy Zart's books it has left me in a melancholy state wanting more. Looking forward to reading more upcoming work from Lindy!

This is my first Lindy Zart book and it will NOT be my last. I really enjoyed her sense of humor and the funny, crazy and complex characters she created. "Dating Husbands" is a reference to the central character, Bianca's, line of business. She is a PI who investigates husbands suspected to cheating on their wives. The heart of the story is, what drove Bianca into this line of business? What made her hate men so much and close herself off to the possibility of love? These are the questions she contemplates and comes to terms with during this novel. And what prompts her to do so much introspection? Well, that would be Drew, a man who is also dealing with a lot of his own demons. I really enjoyed the two of them together and all the other shenanigans with Bianca's sister, cousin, parents, and clients (past and present). A fun, sweet, book, which made me very hopeful.

It got a second star because something compelled me to finish reading it when I was annoyed by the book almost immediately.

*too many conversations between Bianca, Gwen, and Nadine that were hard to figure out which of them was talking.

*The MC used "flip" instead of "fuck". So distracting. Honestly it felt like the author did a find/replace. If you don't want to use the word "fuck" it's not a necessary word. I never would have noticed the absence of the word without the substitution.

*The male love interest was pretty stalkery. Insisting on walking a women you just met home when she's said no and then following her is scary. I don't care that he's cute. Still scary. And that's just one stalkery example. I know stalkery isn't a word. YET.

Very interesting book. I did not know what to expect when I started reading it. Sort of slow a slow start that was a tad confusing. But as I read more the characters became much realer and complex. It took most of the book for all of the complexities to come out - so, sort of slow developing. But the development made for some very interesting plot twists. It was easy to identify with Drew. Bianca took a bit longer, but it finally happened. Good story of two damaged people (aren't we all in one way or another) finding both themselves, how to get beyond the hurts and learn to accept and forgive. Redemption, if you will. Very good read. I literally woke up early this morning and finished it before getting up (hallelujah for e-readers) - I could not wait to get to the end. I do want to read more from her.

I've been fortunate enough to read Lindy Zart's work before so I couldn't wait to peel back the cover on Dating Husbands. It only took a few paragraphs to know I wouldn't be disappointed. Lindy's writing style is easy to follow, flows from one scene to the next and keeps me turning pages.
Bianca's childhood and disastrous dating history leaves her embittered and cynical but her witty remarks and clever antics are hilarious. Drew's character was easy to like. I found myself standing in his corner, waving my virtual pom-poms and cheering for things to go his way.
The comical retorts and sassy dialogue were smartly written, giving me reason to smile throughout the entire read. I really enjoyed this book.

I found Dating Husbands to be a fair story. Bianca thinks all men cheat and Drew has a secret that we don't hear about until late in the book. There were times that Bianca became to childish and I lost her character. I liked Drew's character for the most part, but there were times some of his reactions seemed over-dramatic for the tough guy he was supposed to be. The formatting of the book was chaotic with paragraphs running into each other and at times I struggled knowing who was actually speaking. Yet, the story I felt was strong enough to battle through the poor formatting. There were some missing words, as well. Another read through by the author probably would have made the book much better. Still, I found the story enjoyable and the side characters some of the main draw.

Healing...

Healing was really the overall theme of the book in my opinion. This book made me want to know the characters' stories. I wanted to know what made them act, do, feel the way they did, and Linda Zart provided that. Why is Bianca so bitter towards relationships, what happened to Drew that made him now have panic attacks, why does Gwen go from guy to guy, what's with the parental figures, and how do Justin & Nadine feel about their betrayal. Okay maybe the last part was just touched upon, but that's all it really needed to be. I'm not sure if the Marcus bullying and his story was really necessary, but I guess it showed us how CRU got its beginning and maybe it was supposed to provide some comic relief. Overall, I enjoyed this book, and would recommend to others.

I flipping love this book!.... It just did everything in the right way: made me laugh to a point I almost,almost pee my pants, made me cry, it made me stay up all night until I finish the freaking book and was late to work because of it...but it was worth it!
Bianca is hilarious, smart, funny, narcissitic but in a good-kind-of-way. Drew is every woman's I-want-to rescue you kind of guy, but he also has a brain along with the other male parts. The rest of the cast fit in just perfectly in the story to give Bianca and Drew the time of their life.
So many books arebeing turned into movies now days, I would definitely stand in line to see this story on the big screen. May I suggest Ryan Reynolds for Drew and Anna Faris for Bianca?....odd but they are who I picture as I was reading it.

So quirky!! I love Bianca!!

When I started reading this book I had no idea what I was in for. I am so glad I kept reading. Bianca is awesome! She has been scorned by love for life, so instead of moping about she gets even with the male population. She sets out to show how all men are cheats. She is really creative to the point that she makes a secretive business out of it. The situations she finds herself in are something.

Bianca has sworn off men. However, everywhere she goes, there is sexy Drew. He is not even turned off by her man hating ways. He is intrigued by her. Will Bianca remain bitter about men and love or will she give in and try love with Drew? You have to read this book to find out what happens.

This a wonderfully written book, with a great story line that keeps you smiling, and laughing from start to finish.

The story of a woman who wants nothing more than to hate men and prove them all evil, her twisted sense of humor, her sister and her best friend keep her grounded and try their best to change her mind on men.
A surprise person with a secret keeps you guessing while you pull for them 2 of them you kind of want to hate him too.

You get enjoy the journey of a young woman who is not only learning to trust Men but to trust herself as well.

I do hope that there is a follow up book.

I must admit I was a little unsure when I bought this book as I had only ever read Zart's 'Take Care, Sara' which is a gut wrenching - cry your eyes out kind of book. I loved it and thought I would give Dating Husbands a try. I was unsure if an author that wrote a book that could make me that heart broken could also pull off a slapstick comedy. Dating Husbands is hilarious. The main character, Bianca, could not be wittier. She has a crazy job that drags her into even crazier situations. Then enters Drew...and he is truly the easiest character to love. The ending was perfect and I really look forward to reading more by this author,

OMG, so I downloaded this book yesterday. I started right away and couldn't stop (well for bed and grocery shopping). I couldn't stop thinking about the characters and what was going to happen next. It was so awesome! I love when I get a book like that, I am able to immerse myself in the book and in the characters life. It was all so real, I swear I looked around and I was in the bar, watching Bianca talk to Earl! This is so well written. Their is great character development and interaction. Such a wonderful story!!!! I am in complete awe of Ms. Zart's work. So glad to have read this book!!!!!

Ooooh...so not what I expected...soooo much better! This was awesome, I couldn't put it down. In fact, I stayed up all night to finish it. Bianca is so much like me that it's kind of scary, but I (sadly) do not have a Drew. I loved how they both were broken in their own ways, but a chance meeting was a way for them both to heal.

Lindy Zart is such a great writer, really pulling you in and making the characters so real. I've loved everything I've read by her so far and this one did not disappoint.

Lindy Zart has written her way on to my favorites list. Every book I have read of hers is both a really good story, and filled with unforgettable people whom I come to really care about. Facing challenges from bad things life has thrown at them, it is interesting to see how they cope, grow, and you pull for them to rise above what it is that has knocked them down. She writes broken people really, really well.

I'm at the point now where the only thing I need to know is she wrote the book, and I want to read it.

~~~~~~~~~~I Flippin Loved It!!~~~~~
You want my honest opinion? I loved this story! It had a good premise to it, This was the story of Bianca who has been wronged and gets pulled into a PI business for finding cheating husbands. Only she meets the dark and dreamy Drew but of course all men cheat so he can't be an exception to the rule can he? This is a super funny journey that I enjoyed every minute of I was literally lol'ing, I love books like that. Lindy Zart is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and not because we share a name ;) I would recommend this book!!!
Uniquely captivating
ahh, Lindy Zart keeps on amazing me more and more with each book of hers I read. Her writing is so unique and nothing like any other books I read. She always has a beautiful twist and there's never a lack of a heartfelt story line.
I had no idea what to expect from this book, but holy carp did she blow me out of the water. Bianca was an amazing character, sassy, bitter, and surprisingly sweet. An odd mix, that girl, but I wouldn't want her any other way.
I highly recommend this book,and all of Lindy's books for that matter.
This was a very funny book and I loved every minute of it! Bianca had a sarcastic witty crazy sense about her but she had gone through a lot in her short life and it was awesome to watch her stumble and grow. Drew had his own reasons for being broken and needed to learn how to move on and grow. They had such great banter and had me laughing out loud a lot. This book also had a crazy sort of romantic tone to it as well with great characters and many complex relationships.
What can I say.....it made me laugh and it made me cry. Bianca is so deadset against against men believing they're all the same and believing women do no wrong, that when she meets a great guy who is interested in her she immediately lumps him in the same boat. When her ex-boyfriend, now brother in law, threatens to expose her business to her parents she decides to close up shop and give men another chance. Thankfully Drew hadn't given up on her yet. ..... but he also has problems of his own.
