I've been thinking about how to review this book adequately and I'm really struggling. I rarely review Rennison's novels because it's hard to explain what I mean beyond throwing inane phrases like "really funny" and "laugh-out-loud hilarious" around. But I did receive an ARC for this so I'm going to write something here. And, who knows, maybe I will be able to convince new readers to try out the ridiculous, wonderful and - yes - utterly hilarious would of Louise Rennison. It's delicious, well-written silliness that will immediately be pigeonholed by many as something to be looked down upon. But it takes extreme skill as a writer to create something this funny, to create something that delivers laughs every time you turn the page.

But, in the end, it's humour. And you'll only know if Rennison is for you by sampling said humour. So I shall post a few quotes I enjoyed. Please note that these are not taken from the final print edition:

On the bus, a boy undid my corker holder. And I had to sit there jiggling about, as the tissues that I'd put in it for extra corker-ness worked their way into my armpits.

*

Jo said, "What's happened about the Cain thing - is he still on the run, Lullah?"
I went a bit red and quickly said, "I've no idea. With a bit of luck Mrs Bottomley will shoot him."
Flossie said, "Oh, you are sooooo unreasonable, Miss Lullah. Yes, those boys are BAAADDD, but they are so goddamn handsome."
I said huffily, "Yeah, if you like Dark Black... animals in trousers."
Flossie said, "I do, as it happens."

*

I want to hit something.
I'm going to hit something. I'm banging a squirrel slipper on the dressing table. Yeah! It feels good.
Right, I'm pacing, pacing and banging the slipper on the bed end. Now on the wardrobe door. Yeah yeah!! I'm stepping up the rhythm now, pacing and banging anything I pass. Pace, pace, bang, bang.
Bang the window sill.
Bang the door.
Bang the bedhead.
Bang the lamp... oh damn... pick up the lamp.

*

I looked down to think of something to say and noticed that the front of my coat is sticking out. In the corker area.
Oh no, I wonder if he's noticed that my corkers have grown. It's the kind of thing that Cain would notice.
But I don't want Charlie to think I am deliberately thrusting my corkers at him.
You know, in a girl way. In a 'ooooh, look at my corkers' way.
I'll hunch my shoulders a bit so that the sticking out is counterbalanced by my hunching. Not too much though. I don't want him to think I've become a hunchback over the holidays.
Charlie was looking at me. What should I say to make the situation more normal and matey?
What do boys say to each other?
You know, to their mates, erm...
I said, "Everything all right at home?"
Charlie grinned even more. "Yes, thanks. All well at your end?"
I nodded. "Yes, erm, tickety-boo, thank you."
Tickety-boo?
...
Charlie turned to go. "It's lovely to see you again, Lullah... and, well, I hope I'll see you a lot more. Bye." And he gave me a hug.
I flapped my arms against his back. And then I gave him a thumbs-up.
I don't know why.
Maybe I am a man.

*

And then there's Cain. Lurking about, being absent.
It's very tense-making, waiting for him to pop up. And he's always popping up when you least want a person to pop up. Like when you're adjusting your corker holder. Or doing a bit of corker-measuring. Or rubbing your corkers with hiking socks to make them grow.

Can’t help to think things with Cain were unresolved, but there are no more books🤷‍♀️

All Louise Rennison’s novels are going to remain on my shelves, even though I do have to hide them from my kid and his friends, cause I don’t feel like explaining what “sex god,” “nuts-nungas” and “trouser snake” are to 8-year olds.

I can never get enough of Louise Rennison and when I heard that there was a new Tallulah Casey book I ordered it immediately then started reading when it arrived in the post the next day. And then finished it that night.

And I was right to; I grew up with the Georgia Nicholson books, reading them time and time again, so much so that the spines on many of them aren't really spines any more. And at 18, eight years after discovering them, I still read them and they never fail to make me laugh.

The Taming of the Tights follows the same wonderful pattern and I can tell I will be reading this for years to come and still laughing and the fantastic silliness and going all gooey over the sentimental parts.

It's just, I can't describe how brilliantly written these books are and I can't really do anything but recommend them wholeheartedly and then shuffle off to re-read them all.

Tallulah Casey, despite any sign of talent or acting ability, is back at Dother Hall in Yorkshire learning to be dramatic in a school with barmy teachers whose credentials are dubious. But school doesn't matter, only boys do. Tallulah is denying that she had a moment with the Dark Black Crow of Heckmondwhite, Cain, and instead thinking about the unattainable Alex and the taken Charlie. Sadly, her moment with Cain has led to the Bottomly sisters threatening her, but what can they do really? I mean, their mother has been trying to shoot Cain for months and has only succeeded in killing a goat. At the school they are trying to find ways to raise money to get a roof again and running water. The local reform academy for boys might just have some monetary interest, but what is the future of the Hall when Charlie has dumped his girlfriend and agreed to go out with Tallulah! Cain and everyone else be damned, especially Lulah's uncontrollable knees. She has a chance with Charlie!

Somebody stop me from reading these books. I mean it, seriously I need an intervention. What was once fun and unique is now a chore. Rennison just keeps writing the same book over and over again and never having any plot or any anything. And people are seriously giving this book five stars? Is it just nostalgia for your childhood? Because, bizarre rap battles and owlets do not make a book. And how is Honey a star in Hollywood? She has a severe lisp! I seriously can almost not be bothered to write this review because Louise was obviously not bothered to write a half-way decent book. Therefore in the tradition of Georgie Nicholson and Tallulah Casey, here is a list like you'd see in the appendix of these books, it's all I can be bothered to do.

What Louise Rennison can do:

Funny dialogue
Create awkward situations that are humorous
Skewer classic plays
Barmy characters
Insane pets
Broody Bronte Boys

What Louise Rennison can't do:

Write a book with a plot
Evolve beyond the love triangle (quadrangle?) premise
Give us any reason to understand why Tallulah is talented or liked
Have the time frame of a book be longer then a few weeks
Write this series anymore

What Louise Rennison must stop relying on:

Viking Helmets
Concerts/plays being the moment the book builds to
Creepy guy moments (Charlie likes her because she is vulnerable? What?)
Snog lists
"Named" groups of friends, ie, Ace Gang, Tree Sisters
Repetitive inner dialogue
Insane pets (she's used it once too often, move on)
Boycrazy girls
Weird lesbian jokes

Rastafari, out yo!

I must admit, the withering tights series is my guilty pleasure book, the one I go to when I really just need to laugh. I had been waiting for this book to come out since I finished the last one and was not disappointed. I hope this is not the last in the series mostly because I really wanted her to end up with Cain, he sounds hot, mysterious and you can tell Lullah is drawn to him just as much as we are. The writing is basic, the language a little silly at times but its perfect because though it can be cringey its innocent and an easy laugh.

I love this series. I really do. It’s pretty much become my go-to for when I need something that will make me laugh without requiring any brain power. Tallulah’s just so great. I love how un-angsty she is—she’s genuine and innocent and fairly naïve, and while those things don’t always work for me, they work for me here because Tallulah is straight up hilarious, and I adore her optimism and how she’s not the moody, annoying type of teenager. I cannot stop smiling when I read these books. Especially any scene that involves her knees (I know that sounds weird, but trust me, Tallulah’s knees are the best).

This third book is about the same quality as the second, which is to say not as good as the first book but still pretty great. In this book, Tallulah is sorting out her feelings about Charlie and Cain, while trying to figure out why Dr. Lightowler hates her. Not to mention she’s also still trying to redeem herself after the Sugar Plum Bikey fiasco. For the whole Charlie vs. Cain thing, I know I’m probably supposed to like Charlie the best, but really, I’m all for Cain. I mean, come on—Tallulah calls him the “Dark Black Crow of Heckmondwhite.” How am I supposed to resist that? Especially considering the fact that he opens up for a brief moment in this book, and we get to see a little bit of who he is behind that cocky bad-boy exterior.

Tallulah’s group of friends remains as awesome as ever, with Ruby, as usual, being my favorite of the bunch. How a 11-year-old can be so cool, I don’t know. But when I grow up, I want to have as much spunk and “Northern Grit” as Ruby.

Overall, a lot of fun. A good way to amuse yourself for a couple of hours when you’ve got nothing else going on.

Rating: 4 / 5

This is the third book in the series about the hilariously funny and bonkers Tallulah Casey by Louise renninson the queen of teen comedy. I had read the two previous books in the series and thought how could this get any better? This book has certainly proven that it can, with Tallulah's embarrassing tendency to blurt out randow things and irish dance to hiddly diddly, which I find laugh out loud funny. On top of it all she has to prove herself to miss frosty knickers (aka Dr Lightowler) and receive the golden slippers of applause. Unfortunately her new found rapping skills don't seem to be appreciated and surprisingly frosty pants doesn't seem to like the owl related jokes. You just can't seem to please some people, unbelievable!!! As well as having the hard task of choosing between now available Charlie and the rusty black crow of heckmondwhite, Cain. The pressure is on for Tallulah in this third instalment but will she make the right decisions? It's time for you to find out!!!!!! Thankfully, although she is not an idiot child anymore (as Tallulah would say), though i'm not entirely convinced *horse rap gate*, and is growing up, it seems she still doesn't take life too seriously. Also who could forget the tree sisters, who's friendship is still going strong despite gloweeious honey being in Hollywood (lucky thing!!!!). Read the book u know u want to and let ur inner glowee out!!!!!

Well, this book was ok. In relation to the series, I'd say it was the weakest of the 3. But this series in no way compares to the Georgia Nicholson series, of this being a spin off of sorts. It's really not as funny, there seems to be a lack of focus and story in the story. It feels like nothing much happens except for a few somewhat dramatic scenes (ok, dramatic to a teenager). There is an ending of sorts, but it all felt very safe and a bit boring. So not a favourite from Rennison but at least she keeps writing. She does have a talent for writing and knows exactly how to portray a teen. Perhaps it's me, and as I get older I just don't 'get it'. Still, every time I go back to Georgia, I laugh myself sick. Talullah Casey just doesn't do it for me.

Tallulah Casey is just like with a bit more knee-action.

Tallulah reminds me so much of the confusing things that come with being young and being around cute boys. Acting silly is something that happens more often then not. I am so happy with this ending. Thank you Louise Rennison's for making the final Tallulah Casey installment to give me the ending I wanted it. Love love love!

This one was definitely my favourite of the series, Tallulah really became her own character instead of being an imitation of Georgia Nicolson. The side characters were so random but it fit really well and Louise Rennison is hilarious as always.

Only after I read this book, and went online to see what's up with the next one, that I found out that there won't be any "next book" from the comedy queen.
I'm ashamed to say that I found out about LR books only about a month ego, and i devoured the Georgia Nicholson series. I couldn't get enough so I started this series, which is bitter-sweet, because it's also great and laugh out loud funny, but also, there is no closer or conclusion and there won't be any.

I absolutely adore Louise Rennison! I loved her Georgia Nicolson books so much and when I started reading the Talullah Casey series it was always in the back of my mind that Talullah was just not quite as funny and mad as her cousin, Georgia. And then I read The Taming of the Tights the third book by Louise Rennison in the Tallulah Casey and you know what? I've completely changed my mind. I'll always have a soft spot for Georgia, but my heart now belongs to Tallulah!

The thing that gets to me the most about Tallulah is how much crap she gets from everyone around her. One particular teacher at school, the village girls, even the man who runs the pub next to where she lives doesn't go easy on the poor girl. And throughout it all Tallulah hods her head up high and carries on. She does crazy owl raps and gallops about like a horse in front of everyone and does weird Irish dancing and puts up with the name calling and the glare-y looks and the incessant insults and people laughing at her. And while 90% of this book is absolutely laugh-out-loud funny, there are still moments where my heart absolutely breaks for the treatment that Tallulah receives from those around her and those moments are the ones in which I feel the most connected to her. I want to give her a big hug and I want everything to work out for her.

Because I do really adore Tallulah. I love her friendships with the other Tree Sisters and especially her relationship with Ruby (who is one of the funniest characters in the book!). I love how bizarre her world is, with the Dobbins and everything else and she just carries on like nothing is out of the ordinary! This is the third book in the Tallulah Casey series which follows Tallulah and her friends over another term at a performing arts college, Dother Hall, set in Yorkshire. The play they're working on this term is The Taming of the Shrew and I love the way in which shrews play a part in this book and owls across the entire series...

The other thing that I love about this book is how easily Louise Rennison changes my mind about characters. At the end of the previous book I was filled to the brim with excitement over the latest development in her romantic life ... and then I read this book. And instead of carrying on with that same excited feeling about two characters maybe-possibly starting something, my mind has been changed. And instead, I'm rooting for someone else entirely because it seems like this other person might be better suited for Tallulah. Things could go either way at this point and it all makes me feel a little bit giddy with excitement!

Hooray for Tallulah Casey and her friendships and her originality. I cannot wait to read more in this series...

I decided to read the book " The Taming of the Tights " because I have read the previous books in the collection and the other Louise Rennison series " Confessions of Georgia Nicolson " and thoroughly enjoyed them. This is because I love romantic comedy books.
The category on the bingo board this book completes is a book written in 2013. This was interesting because I am now reading a " classic " book from 1915, The 39 steps, so I got to see the vast differences in language, sayings and ideas between them.
My favourite quote from the book was: " Half woman, half owl, half really, really horrible to me. " because: it is thoroughly amusing and I love her wacky personality plus it doesn't make sense ( a half and a half and a half equals more than a whole. )
Something new I learnt from this book was that personality is much more important than appearance, just because you look good does not make you a nice person. I found all the characters in this book interesting because they were all so different and unique. Charlie is so perfect, Dr. Light Howler, Dil, Eccles, Chas, Beverly and Mr. Barraclough are so mean ( but Mr. Barraclough is also funny. ) Tallulah, Joe, Flossie, Monty, Gudrun, Sidone, Blaise Fox and the Dobbins are cooky and a bit mad and Vaisey and Honey are extremely nice.
The Woolfe lads are funny and sweet and Mrs. Bottomley is insane. Cain's dad and his sons: Ruben, Seth and Cain are really rough but show brief moments of kindness ( Cain really opens up to Tallulah about his past and feelings. )

I'm going to make this extremely short since I am horrid at writing reviews.

DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD I'M FANGIRLING OVER THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW?!

CAIN, OH MY GOSH, CAIN GET IN MY BED. PLEASE.

Cain sounds so dreamy, and mysterious. You’re torn, really, between choosing the sweet boy or the bad boy. I understand why Tallulah hates Cain so much, but I think Charlie is too nice. And Alex is an asshole, leading her on like that. Charlie is sort of the Prince Charming, but he’s just not my type. Or Tallulah’s I think. Tallulah’s vulnerable and naïve, she needs a bit of adventure, and I think Cain can provide her with that. Cain is a wonderful character. I love him. To a point where I want to be Tallulah. He’s so misunderstood, and I bet he could be nice if Tallulah picked him and not Charlie. Tallulah could tame him, if she had enough tolerance. I think he has a soft spot for her, and deep down he wants her as more than someone to toy around with. Tallulah should be with Cain, because the way he kisses her…it’s more than just a quick snog. I think he really feels for her, he just doesn’t know how to show it.

Can't frick frackin' wait for the next book.

The latest installment of Tallulah Casey’s adventures at performing arts schools in the heart of Yorkshire is, as expected, is laugh-aloud funny and as weirdly winsome as its protagonist. In this book, Tallulah continues to seek artistic greatness despite magisterial disapproval, counsels and is counseled by her Tree Sisters, enjoys all the culture that rural Yorkshire has to offer, and is confounded once more by romance.

I know YA romantic comedy isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but Louise Rennison is one of the most consistently hilarious writers I know, and her ability to capture the thrilling absurdity of growing up and finding love when you’re a complete goof is a constant source of delight. If you’ve not had the pleasure of reading Rennison before, I’d advise you to start with either Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging (Confessions of Georgia Nicholson, book 1) or Withering Tights (Misadventures of Tallulah Casey, book 1) and be prepared to have your vernacular taken over by Rennison’s infectious patios and laugh like a loon on loon tablets.

I love this series. The first and second book was amazing, but this third one was quite off, really but I still loved it. I was a little dissapointed that I didnt get to see Cain in the first half o the book.
Speaking of which, can we just take a moment how amazing Cain is?
I love him in this book because I get to see real emotional side from him. I wanted to hug him. I even hugged the book too.
For Charlie......No comment. I mean he's sweet but...but...just...JUST NO!

TALLULAH AND CAIN MUST. BE. TOGETHER.

I really hope that there is a fourth book and it focuses more of cain and tallulah.
GOD, Please let there be a fourth book.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of reading about Tallulah and the Tree Sisters and all the wild things they get up to. I'm definitely "too old" for these books, but I'll never actually outgrow them. They're such funny and relatable characters, and even as I get older I find myself connecting with them. I will definitely read these books again and again.

Is this the last book in the series?? I can't figure out if it is or not and my opinion on it greatly depends on whether it's marked as 'third in series' or 'last of trilogy'. Because if this is the last one, it's kind of a huge let down for me for various reasons.

Tallulah Casey is back in Heckmondwhite to hone her theater craft and achieve the golden slippers of applause. She is looking forward to joining with her Tree Sisters at Dother Hall and talk about those boys of Woolfe Academy. She is back to spend time with her friend Ruby and Ruby’s dog Matilda, and to get huge messy hugs from the twin Dobbins boys where she lodges.

And she’s back for the Lululuuuve List, where she lists out her activity with boys, like the time she was kissed by a boy acting like a bat. Or the time Charlie kissed her but then apologized and told her that he had a girlfriend. Or the time Cain kissed her and she liked it a lot even though he was a local bad boy who was known for treating girls terribly.

But she has a bigger problem. The head of the school, Dr. Lightowler, seems to hate her. She is not a fan of Tallulah’s spontaneous Irish dancing and feels like her “art” is not appropriate for the school. Tallulah does struggle, as she doesn’t have the singing or dancing skills that some of her friends have, but other teachers have told her that she has something special. And when she performs, whether it’s her Sugar Plum Bikey extravaganza or playing the donkey in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, people in the audience are mesmerized by her. Her friends all believe in her. So all Tallulah has to do is to convince Dr. Lightowler that she belongs at Dother Hall.

The play this term is Taming of the Shrew, and Tallulah is determined to make it her best. But Dr. Lightowler is determined to undermine her. She turns to her friends for help, but they are so boy-crazy, it seems like sometime she is along. She liked Charlie, but the boys of Woolfe Academy can rarely leave so she doesn’t get to talk to him often. The teachers at school are working hard in the community to try to earn some extra money for the school, which is struggling, so Tallulah has to look harder inside herself to find her voice, to believe in herself, and to figure out the big question: which one of the boys in her life is the one she wants to kiss?

The Taming of the Tights is the final book in the Tallulah Casey series from Louise Rennison. These books celebrate Northern England as well as the lives and humor of theatrical teenager girls. The Tallulah Casey books are fun, funny, sweet, and a little bit completely bonkers. Personally, I was hoping this would turn into a nice, long series for us to enjoy, but Rennison passed before we could get any more than three. But these three books are a gift to readers, as are her Georgia Nicolson books, and I will reread them over and over when I need some complete bonkers in my life.

Ľúbostné vzťahy, trapasy, írske tance a mnoho ďalších náhod a nehôd vás zabavia a určite spríjemnia deň. ❤️❤️ Chcela by som viac častí ale bohužiaľ táto bola posledná.

Still loved watching the antics of Tallulah and her friends. Does she still have boy problems? Yes. Does she still have trouble with her teachers? Of course. But most of all, Tallulah is growing up a bit and learning the power of friendship.
