A familiar theme in the Johnstone books - our hero, facing insurmountable odds is forced to call in help from a group of old mountain men. While this type of story is definitely getting played out it doesn’t make it any less enjoyable here. This is old school western fun watching the wily old maintain men taking on an army of cutthroats and making them look like children trying to play an adult game.
Centers around Falcon MacCallister and his, as well as his father's, Mountain Men friends. They set about helping out a rancher against a group of land hungry cattle barons. Predictable results.
My first read by William W Johnstone I’ve always loved Louis L’Amour and am thrilled to find this author
Falcon is my kind of Western man with a sense of honor and willing to right an injustice where he sees it. Even while suffering from his own demons.
His father, Jamie’s mountain men friends come to help Falcon clean up some over zealous big cattlemen wanna bees and murders. OMG, they are fearsome and hilarious jawing back and forth
This went along with the flow of a Smoke Jensen Shoot-em-up. I liked it very much. I think Falcon is a damn good hero. I am slightly miffed about how quickly Miles, Lars, and Terri were forgiven for all that they had done, and even more annoyed by Falcon not wanting to go to see his kids right away once he found out where they were. I do hope to see another cross-novel team up.

This was an excellent book, with many engaging characters. As with all the William W. Johnstone books I have read, which is well over a hundred it was hard to put down. Each chapter makes you want to read the next.
I really had a hard time reading these books because of the frequent use of the Lords name. I am not sure I will continue to read anymore of Johnston's books.
This book had me from page one. The humor was off the chart funny and sometimes hilarious. I kept putting the book down to do something else, and I was always rushing back to start reading again. Gave this book a rare five stars.
This was an entertaining, shoot em' up wild west story. The main character has that current day super human persona that does get a bit over the top ... all these shoot outs and not a scratch, he is a millionaire who never makes bad investments, good looking, great family man, absolutely zero flaws ... yet I enjoy reading these stories. Take it for what it is and the realism of the wild west, history, timeframe, mannerisms, etc. appear to be spot on.
Another great western series by Johnstone. This one follows the adventures of a family for generations as they help build the American frontier. Recommended
