Kiera and Potter are back! I am so happy Tim decided to continue with a new series for Kiera. I was so happy to see that Kiera and Potter are together. Its the first series that I've read when two characters get romantically involved and their personalities don't change. They stay true to who they are. I think that is what I love most about these characters. This series is very different from the first Kiera Hudson series. With the first series, Kiera had the help of Luke, Murphy and Potter from the start. This series Kiera starts off with no help and has others relying on her on shat to do. She has a huge weight on her shoulders and you feel such compassion for her. I won't give anything away with this book because just when you think Kiera has saved the day and finally found her path....the bottom drops and all is not what it seems. I had a feeling of a returning character but not in the way it happened. My jaw dropped and stayed that way even after I was done reading. I look forward to the next book and the short about Potter.
Dead Flesh is book one in the Kiera Hudson Series Two. The story picks up right where the last series left off. Kiera and the “gang” return to a world that is not quit the way they remember it. They soon find that there are more changes than they thought. Kiera finds herself faced with a problem she just can’t decline that may have bigger consequences than she planned. If you are a Kiera Hudson fan just know that Tim and the characters do not disappointed. This is the perfect start to a new series. As always it was hard to put down and I found myself hanging on every page. Tim O’Rourke is a master with words and suspense. I am anxiously waiting the next installment and can’t wait to see how some things play out. There are new characters and a surprise return of a past character. I don’t want to give too much away so I will stop now. I loved this book and was sad to reach the end. I highly recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you again Tim for such an amazing book.
Dammit Tim!!! WHY does this one have to be even better than the first series??!!! Now I have to wait......... Ok, so I really love the whole Kiera Hudson series, great story, great characters, continually intriguing plot, just all around really good and different. I was anxious to read this new dead flesh series side of it to see where it went and WOW. I mean it was great. I usually tend to figure the whole plot out about half way through a book and am VERY RARELY ever stumped, but I didn't see this one coming until close to the end. Loved it!! Can't wait to read the next one!
I love this series! I found myself so engrossed in the characters and all of the twists and turns in the plot, just when I thought I had it figured out, there would be a new twist on the whole story. I loved the way it kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning.I have read both of the Kiera Hudson series and can't wait for the third series to begin.
Loved this New installment in the Keira Hudson series! Tim did a fantastic job keeping you on your toes!! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!!
What can I say but Tim has done it again. I am left reeling from his latest instalment in the Kiera Hudson series. I get a total brain gymnastics workout when I read his books. He just pulls these crazy curveballs on the reader. I am trying to think ahead and work out where he is taking me. The specialty of this book that I am stumped on is the statues. Oh yes, I have this list of possibilities of WT? he is doing with them. He is so clever with all his original ideas he weaves through his storyline.
I love the direction Tim is taking this second series in. It’s fresh, and to be truthful, who knows really where he is going with it as he just keeps deceiving the reader, hence the brain gymnastics. But I know enough to know that ......... ( well if I told you, it would spoil) and that.............. and then...............!
The gang are back at Hallowed Manor and they are all a bit out of sorts from where Vampire Hollows left them.
Tim has such wonderful imagination and what he does with his world building, such an original , creative idea. I loved all the ‘things’ that changed. Some had me laughing at the cleverness of the name. I am being a bit cryptic here, but I want you to read it fresh like I did.
You will get a little *sniff* ,pass the tissue, with the hollow feeling that is left with Murphy gone. Betrayal has left Potter showing how lost he is. His two friends.....gone. The love he felt for Luke has been stripped away from him, his heart shredded.
A little difference with this book is , Kiera and Kayla are sharing this book. The story splits off and we are watching both of them do their thing.
Kayla has become this little dynamo, taking on the danger and getting a bit potty mouthed like Potter. Well, she has a good teacher..hehe!!
Isidor...I like to call him Isi ( sounds cute) , he is just so darn loveable , there are some BOL! moments with the banter between Potter and Isi. They are just hilarious when they get going at each other. I did have a fave scene that had me giggling. I’ll give you a hint....”I’ll be back.”
There is a rather delicious description of Isi. I sooo want a piece of wallpaper with a visual of Isi. I think he could win a few fans, just on that description. Piercings, tatts, the hair, the muscles and for some a motorbike goes a long way to smexi value, Isi has his crossbow, not to mention the wings. He is a little naive, but that is what makes him a fun and loveable character to read. He is a fighter and loyal and he is starting to give some lip back to Potter..ha!
Now to Potter, my cranky pants that I love, well, he is a bit quieter in the first third of the book. He is a bit sad and not sure what to do with himself. Potter needs a fight, it’s his thing battling, instead he is raking leaves and feeling a bit sad....poor lovey. But then * waggles eyebrows* we all know what the Summer House does to Potter.
Tim has created a different world for him to play in with his characters. He has even brought in some new young blood. I LOVE Sam, he has this innocence, but at the same time he is a cluey lad.
Tim as always has such fun with his action / fight scenes. Bit of music playing in background, quite a good musical number to be flinging bodies about to.
So much is happening in this instalment, never a dull, quiet moment. Murder, mayhem, LOL moments, sadness, blood ( there will always be messy times) , curveballs, mystery, odd things are happening , rat houses, Ravenwood School, creepy hooded people, sizzle sticks ( ah yes, there will be some zapping) dreams/visions, smexi ( gotta love a bit of Potter smexi) and that is all I will tell you.....trust me there is more.......... and the ending ???
I highly recommend as always Tim’s books. You get to have a crazy good time reading them, with little you will see coming.
FAVE QUOTES: ( I could have put so many in here but I wanted to not give too much away)
Before Potter had a chance to say anything else, Isidor came down the stairs and stepped into the living room. He wore his long, black coat with jeans and boots. His collar was turned up, his eyes were hidden by a pair of sunglasses, and in his hand he held his crossbow. “Jesus, Isidor, you scared the shit out of me,” Potter sniped. “For a moment, I thought you were the Terminator!” “Very funny,” Isidor said. “How do I look, Kiera?” “Erm, like the Terminator,” I smiled at him.
"So you don’t think the locals are going to notice one of the Men In Black strutting his stuff through town?”
“What’s happened, Isidor?” I asked him. “Are you okay?” “Yeah, I’m fine,” he said. “Are you sure?” Potter smirked. “Because if any of those school kids picked on you I’ll go and speak to their teacher.”

Another truly great read from Tim O'Rourke. 'Dead Flesh' is told from Keira's perspective as well as one of her friends. Keira and her friends initially seem to be in limbo after the rollercoaster of previous events. They need to come to terms with everything that has happened and all that they have been through, at the same time as trying to understand their own personal changes and the changes of the different world that they find themselves in.
Again, we have a different type of species with the 'skin-walkers' being introduced. Once I completely understood these beings, they became quite fascinating creatures, but also very scary too. I could elaborate here, but would not want to spoil this novel.
The setting, a small town with its main focus on a local boarding school, takes me back to Enid Blyton with the Famous Five. As here we have a group of young people being adventurous and daring in order to seek out solutions to the mysteries surrounding them. The atmosphere through the most part is spooky and eerie, and with Scooby Doo references too,I couldn't help but think of those great characters and storylines. However, childhood fun aside, Tim O'Rourke adds his own twist by making this novel much more terrifying, gorey and adult-themed.
That is not to say, however, that this novel is completely without any humour. On the contrary, I laughed out loud a few times when reading this book, with one of the characters rifling through woolly knickers, ideas on who 'The Wolf Man' may be and the general bickering between certain characters.
On a more serious note, it is obvious from the beginning that Keira and her friends are concerned for their own well-being and are uncertain of a great deal to begin with. Throughout the book the reader is hoping that the characters will focus on each other and there are compassionate moments in there with some intense scenes which will delight the reader.
One of my favourite aspects of Tim O'Rourke's writing is that he provides enough description for the characetrs and the setting to be understood and connected with. However, there is always room for the reader to use their own imagination for some details, thus making it their own fantasy.
This series is fiction come to life as you envisage and feel whatever the characters are feeling at the time. For example, with the action scenes, you can feel the gore, the blood, the flesh. So much so that it makes you squeamish. It is absolutely fantastic. You feel that you are Keira, or at least a part of her or with her, as she deals with horrific situations and action scenes.
Of all the books in the Keira Hudson series, there are scenes here that truly belong in the 'horror' genre. There are spooky, eerie happenings and later on scary, gorey, pulse-throbbing scenes. This is definitely a novel whereby the reader is perched at the edge of their seat.
First I want to say this is more of a 4.5 stars for me. Goodreads really needs to get with the program and give us the half star ratings. Lol
Kiera and the gang are back!....well sort of. They are back but they are definitely not the same. Then again who can come back from the dead unchanged? But it isn't long before they don't have time to worry about the strange things that are happening with themselves and have to focus on this new world that they've come back to. A place where everything seems to be off just a little. And the worst part? In this world the wolves have taken over. They're no longer the stuff of myths and fairy tales, no they are very real and the humans live in fear of them.
Kiera and the gang do what they do best, and stand up to the bat to take on this world head first, determined to set it right. The question is can they do it without getting themselves killed...again?
So when I first found out that Tim was doing a spin off series using most of the same characters I wasn't sure how that was going to work. But all I can say is it works in a way that only Tim O'Rourke can pull off! This book turned out to be amazing!! Now I will say that in the beginning it was a little slow to start and I started to think this was going to be the same as the first series which made me a little discouraged, but I stuck it out and I was sooooooooo glad that I did!
For one thing it was nice to see Kiera & Potter embrace their relationship and work together. I mean sure they had their spats, like we know the will because hello this is Potter we are dealing with, but they finally seem to accept that they lovers and nothing will come between that. It was nice to see the softer side of Potter when he was dealing with Kiera. I can't wait to see their relationship grow even more, and dare I say...go on a real date? Lol
We also get a closer look into Kayla with half of the chapters being told from her POV. I have always like Kayla and I am so glad we get to know her better. I really hope we get to keep Sam. (a boy that likes her) I would love to see her find some happiness and someone that can finally accept her for her after everything that she's lost in her life.
Overall this was a great start to this spin off series! Plenty of action and new twists that will keep you guessing and plenty of cliffhangers that will keep you reading!
This first book in O’Rourke’s new series hits the ground running hard, and doesn’t let up until the twisted finale that will leave readers yearning for more. Kiera, Potter, Isidor, and Kayla are back, this time as the undead, and as they begin to piece together this new world they’ve been thrust into, they must work together to uncover the truths behind the pushed world. Seeking to understand their new surroundings, Kiera once again becomes an amazing sleuth, deducing the truth with the help of her friends as they search for Emily Clarke and the mystery surrounding her disappearance at the Ravenswood School. Once again, O’Rourke easily takes the reader into the depths of this dark tale, mystifying him/her until the very last page.
The wolves, having always been evil, are even worse in this novel, and I loved the eeriness surrounding them and the Ravenswood School where Kayla spends much of her time infiltrating the system in search of the truth. New in this series, O’Rourke introduces multiple perspectives, giving the reader inside glimpses into the characters as the novel unfolds in two different places. This back and forth manner is a wonderful addition to the series, and I loved having the opportunity to follow all the characters through this new narrative style that O’Rourke invokes.
Full of many twists and turns, this novel is a must read! While those who haven’t read the books in the first series will be able to keep up with Dead Flesh, I highly suggest reading all five and a half of the novels in the first Kiera Hudson series before embarking on this next segment, as there are many allusions to the first series and it will make the twists in Dead Flesh all the more jaw dropping. O’Rourke has made me a fan for life—his novels really are that good, and I highly suggest reading all his books. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
I know I say this is the best book yet after each book of Tim's that I read but seriously Dead Flesh rocked it! Your favorite characters Kiera, Potter, Kayla, and Isador are back in Tim's new Kiera Hudson series and I couldn't be more pleased. I have been a fan of Tim's since reading his Black Hill Farm almost a year ago and I have enjoyed watching him grow as a writer. The characters and plots get stronger and his writing gets darker and more intense with each book he publishes. Dead Flesh is dark, creepy, and full of suspense. Right from page one, you fall back into that comfortable zone you get when you feel like you know the characters personally. A few new one's have been added to the story, including Kayla's new friend Sam. As with all of Tim's books, I was left wondering "what about..." (I won't tell you about what because I don't want to spoil it)by the time I reached the end. But don't worry, Tim will get to those what abouts in his own time. Be prepared for a few surprises along the way too! So go get it, get it NOW!! If you are new to Kiera Hudson, be sure to read his vampire series also. It will take you back to when we were first introduced to Kiera and Potter and explain some of the back story. Dead Flesh is a highly recommended read for Kiera Hudson fans but also for those new to the character. My favorite passage from Dead Flesh: "Are you for real, sweetcheeks? Potter barked. You said yourself that Banner was a waste of space. If we go marching into his station with that video, he is going to make us feel about as welcome as a fart in an elevator!"
Kiera Hudson and crew are back again & better than ever!! Once again Tim O'Rourke takes us on a bloody-thrill ride that will keep you up late into the nite unable to pry your eyes away from your Kindle!! I will never understand how he comes up with this stuff but boy am I glad he does, you will not find anything else like it out there.
As much as I love the first Kiera Hudson series (I am a life-long addict LMAO) this one promises many more surprises & much intrigue. I dont want to say too much on the plot & spoil the story for you. Part of the thrill of Mr. O'Rourkes books is his ability to surprise us over & over again. I will say this is just as exciting, bloody & gross as I have come to expect with many twists & turns along the way. Lots of LOL moments between Potter & Isidor, and just with Potter himself ( I do love that man!!) And the ending will leave you picking your jaw up off the floor & drooling for more!!!! I also love that the POV changes back & forth between charaters which is new to the series. It is not necessary to read the first series before diving into this one, BUT I do HIGHLY recommend it!! All in all another awesome book from an incredible Author!! =]
Having read The Kiera Hudson series one I was patiently waiting for Dead Flesh book one in the second series and I can definitely say it was worth the wait!
To catch up with team again, especially Potter (What can I say, I'm a Potter girl! )was fantastic, and as usual the brilliant writing of Tim does not disappoint! The suspense and action kicks off early on and as with all Tim's books I find myself reading 'just one more chapter' as I can't tear myself away from wanting to know what's going to happen next...
The ending was so not what I expected in a jaw dropping way that yet again I am now waiting the next in this series to see where the journey takes us, as I find myself feeling like I am in the book whilst reading as the story sucks me in from the very beginning making me feel part of the team!
It's a great book and well worth the read...just a shame I can't award it more than 5 stars! Keep up the great writing Tim :)
WOW I did not see this end coming...Frickin' AWESOME & just a tad bit twisted!! Just gotta figure out where Sam and the "statues" fit in LoL ....Tim hurry up and finish the next book!!! Only negative, I would say and its really more a matter of a personal taste since it really doesn't effect the love of the story...I don't like the cover art, too zombie-ish.
If I had not been looking for it specifically, having read the other series, OR you had not written it(cause I will always check out my fave authors new books) then I would have passed on it cause I would have thought it was about zombies.
SHOOT!!! Now having written this out I could just smack myself ~ sigh! This is a zombie book isn't it.
Again this story is AWESOME!! A definite MUST read!!
Bet you thought that was it, a ot so happy ending for the series and Mr. O'Rourke is done with Kiera Hudson... well no, NO!! Kiera and her friends are back and ready for more adventures. But, what are a group of misfit not-really-dead ex-coppers to do in a world that seems to be completely misplaced? What coppers do best... look for trouble and face it. That is exactly what Kiera and the gang do in this book... Kayla is braver than ever, Potter is as potty-mouthed as usual, Isidor is as adorable in death as he was in life and Murphy... he's just old Jim Murphy all over. But, is Kiera ready to face the new dangers that roam this new world with now Vampyrus in it? Will she be able to hide her secret?
I love this book, though I'm still uncertain where Mr. O'Rourke is planning to go with this series because it sort of goes back to the basics. I fell in love with Kiera because she can see and solve crimes, she is a walking CSI which never ceases to amaze me. Aside from starting back at one, there is an emotional firestorm going on in this especially with Kayla, who is incidentally the lead in this book. She is haunted by the aftermath of judgement lapse in Vampire Hollows which makes her a little desperate to redeem herself.
Kiera's life is never boring even after she is dead. She came back to a world that has changed or been "pushed." There is a murder to solve and once again Potter, Kayla and Isador are helping to find Emily Clarke, a missing school teacher from Ravenswood School while sorting out why the world has changed. The story in engrossing and has lots of twists that you don't see coming and once again I am amazed at Tim's imagination that has captured my attention. I Loved the first series and look forward to more of Potter and Kiera in Book 2.
What a great start to the 2nd series, thankfully we don't have to wait too long for the release of the next title in the series as Tim amazingly writes so quick which is great when you get hooked and you just want the next one. After series 1 I wondered where it was going to go with this one and I would never have guessed that the gang would end up dead because when that happens that's usually it end of story but not for these guys as you'll find out. An amazing series that I don't want to end!!!
This book left me sitting there with my mouth wide open thinking What the hell?? I so did not see that coming. It was another awesome book to an awesome series..In this book everyone is trying to find themselves after coming back from the dead. They aren't really sure who they are anymore or why they were brought back and just want to feel some kind of normal in a world that is far from it.There world gets more than Pushed.. I Loved it!!!I can't wait to read Dead Angels.
I'm just loving these books. The change of character throughout the chapters gives the storyline extra depth and I'm just loving the character Potter, really pleased he made it back! Good move on the authors behalf!
Each one of the characters just keeps growing and twisting and it's wonderful to think that this is one of those series of books that goes from strength to strength.
this book is OUTSTANDING..read it all last night!! i can not wait for the 2nd one. until i get it i've got Potters secrets to read which i'm sure will be just as good. i love all of TO books. one of the best imaginations out there and i thank u, sir for sharing :)
Edgy book with a 'who did it?' kind of feel to it. I devoured this book and the entire series. It is one of those series that makes it hard to put down for long. I would highly recommend it.
