Whinnies on the Wind #5

Winter of Sinking Waters: A Wilderness Horse Adventure

Rate this book
Evy is elated. She gets an entire weekend hanging out with her best friends, both horse and human, with no adults around. All they have to do is take care of the cattle - and eat tons of cake and go for rides and basically do anything they feel like doing. What can be better? Maybe if that big grizzly bear didn't decide a cow would make a nice dinner... And if the cattle didn't stampede... And if the only escape from the bear wasn't across the ice covered lake...

Who knew a stalking grizzly bear could be so suspenseful! Evy and Kestrel get into quite the pickle and it was so interesting, exciting, and scary seeing them work their way through this situation to save the animals plus themselves. The horses and Evy’s ability are a HUGE help and Rusty is the best horse EVER, I would feel so safe with him, lol.

Really good and now I’m kicking myself for taking so long to dive back into this series. Angela Dorsey is definitely one of the best MG horse authors out there!

This particular one seemed slow at the start, but it definitely picked up speed and kept racing until it reached the conclusion. As with her other books, Dorsey gives enough background throughout the book that the reader can read it as a stand alone story. However, it ties well to the other books that have preceded it. Recommended reading for upper elementary and early middle school girls who love horses.

A thrilling story about being trapped with a dangerous animal in the deserted wilderness. Mixed in between are a home alone story and the usual horse elements.
