Oak Wise is a collection of Celtic-themed narrative poetry exploring the old wisdom of the Druidic and shamanic traditions. This collection is approachable to the curious seeker just beginning their exploration of ecological spirituality; while at the same time remains insightful to long-time path-walkers. In Oak Wise Browning descends with the reader into an intimate account of one seeker reflecting on the biological mother [the earth] while communing with the ancestral consciousness to which we each are connected. This collection brilliantly reintroduces the ecological sensitivities of the old earth-based faiths; highlighting their relevance in this current age of environmental crisis.
L.M. Browning (they/them) is a bestselling poet whose hybrid of introspective travel writing and visual art focuses on the alchemizing of trauma through active awe-seeking and a re-wilding of one’s life and self.
Over the last fifteen years, Browning’s twenty-something intention to help “ensure the mainstream isn’t the only stream,” has taken shape in the form of the enduring indie platforms: Homebound Publications, Wayfarer Books, The Wayfarer Magazine & Navigator Graphics. Their own published works have received five Pushcart Prize nominations, two Foreword Review Book Awards, the Nautilus Gold Medal for Poetry, and the Nautilus Silver Medal for Poetry.
Browning sits on the State of Connecticut’s/NAMI’s Lived Experience Committee and received national certification as a Survivor of Suicide Attempt (SOSA), Group Peer Facilitator through the Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services Foundation in Los Angeles. They are a graduate of the University of London and Harvard University.
This book has been a friend on my bedside table, a deep breath at the end of a hectic day, and an escape to a reality I can almost remember, though from another realm, another body, a simpler time. I miss it already.
My fav poetry/story book I have read by far in my short 21 years on this earth. I cried on almost every page because the author has such a way of writing about nature. The main character we follow I can relate to in such a deep way. I will never stop recommending everyone to READ THIS BOOK.
An aesthetically pleasing book of poetry from the visual perspective, and it includes a few stronger poems than other collections of this author's work.
