To save a soul, he will need both foresight and fire.
When Barrett Hall moved from New York to the coastal Maine town of Moose Cove following the fiery car crash that killed his parents, he never expected to become a founding member of a fledgling coven. Just as Barrett is adjusting to the coven’s blood bond, and settling into the strange quietude of small town life, a mysterious postcard arrives from New Orleans, followed by a vision of his father, alive, and being tortured by a shadowed figure with Voodoo magick.
Barrett resolves to find and rescue Mason Hall, without the coven’s help. Covenmate, Blake, refuses to let him go alone, and as the two travel south to find his father, they’re thwarted by unexpected obstacles, both human and supernatural.
Upon their return to Moose Cove, Barrett’s visions turn deadly. With a dangerous ice storm approaching, Barrett believes that, this time, with the coven’s help, and his newly inherited magical abilities; it will be enough to save a soul. But his visions aren’t always what they seem. Within Barrett’s mind, the mysterious shadowed being makes his intentions known. He has plans for Barrett, and for all of the Moose Cove Coven.
Magick demands a sacrifice. The Prescient Witch is book two of the YA Paranormal Moose Cove Coven series by Katerina Dennison. Each book follows a different member of the coven as they struggle with their new magical abilities, coven relationships, and continuing paranormal threats to their town and their lives. It seems every supernatural creature they've ever heard of, and many they haven't, is after them and their power, including gods, zombies, werewolves, ghosts, and more. Saving the town and themselves is a constant battle, and the war has just begun.
Katerina's young adult paranormal Moose Cove Coven series begins with The Priestess Witch, which follows a coven of witches in coastal Maine. Each book follows a different member of the coven as they struggle to deal with family trauma, small town secrets, and newly discovered magical abilities, all while a mysterious and mythical fate laid out by their ancestors comes at them like a tidal wave.
Katerina holds an MFA in short fiction writing from Goddard College. Her short story Princess Myna and the Ember Snake was recently published in the collection Creating Cinderella: Retold Fairy Tales. She currently lives in Florida with her husband and one son of the feline persuasion. Her heart, though, is still on the rocky shorelines and in the pine forests of Maine, and, of course, in the land of fantasy. She writes about magic, and love, and mystery, which she believes are the essence of any good story. She enjoys playing cozy video games, listening to lo-fi music, cuddling cats, hoarding crystals and tarot cards, taking long walks in the woods, and eating her way around Walt Disney World. Imagine what it would be like to lose a parent, and then find out you might be able to get them back with the help of a new magical ability. Now imagine the fallout from that. The secrets that were uncovered along with the emergence of that ability. The trauma the parent might endure. The magic unleashed. And the shadows that might be drawn to that magic. In book 2 of the Moose Cove Coven series you'll get to know Barrett Hall. Founding member of the coven, doting grandson, and powerful witch. I hope you will enjoy your time with him as much as I did.
Dennison is a story teller! She creates a world inside a world as we navigate young Barrett's journey. From New Orlean's jazz filled streets back to the rugged coast of Maine, Barrett sets out to save his father. Whether he is trying to go it alone or is relying on the help of his coven the pages kept on turning into the night. This is the second novel in the Moose Cove Coven and Barrett is only part of the puzzle. I'm looking forward to the next puzzle piece and how their story fits in.
This was a fun easy read but I admit I didn't love this one as much as the first. Maybe because I read them back-to-back and was feeling complete in the story but it definitely didn't grab me. Still I highly recommend the series, especially for those young adult kiddos interested in good witchy fiction!
I loved getting to know Barrett more and can't wait to see where the series goes. With small-town secrets, mystery, found family, and vengeful gods, book two is a powerful journey of dealing with grief and the healing power of friendship.
An intriguing story with memorable twists and turns. It’s a well written novel with interesting characters and a great story line that kept me coming back for more.
I really enjoyed this exciting book. There were several plot twists and unexpected turns that really gets your adrenaline going to the final supernatural climax.
