I enjoyed reading poems from each section of Poetry After Lunch. I thought it was intriguing how the poems were split up as meals that could be eaten for lunch or in general. My favorite sections were “Salads” and “Light Snacks”. It would be great for teachers to incorporate these poems as an introduction to poetry, but I’d suggest the book for higher level middle school- so 8th grade.
I've had this book of poetry for a long time and have taught from it, but never have I ever read it cover to cover. This exercise has given me hours of pleasure.
2.25⭐️ I was kind of bored starting off but then some of the poems were good. I was mostly confused on what some of the poems meant though or what was happening
I'm not entirely certain that I "get" the concept behind this poetry anthology -- it's divided up into parts of a meal, with poems that I suppose are intended to represent each part -- but I enjoyed the collection. An entire book of accessible, modern (for the most part) poetry suitable for young readers, or the adult reader of poetry who doesn't have a lot of time for explication. I'll use several of the poems for my contemporary literature class that I'm teaching this spring.
