《七剑十三侠》一名《七子十三生》，是晚清侠义小说的代表性作品，在当时即被誉为“诚集历来剑侠之大观，稗官之翘楚”（江文蒲“初集”序）。写明武宗正德（1506-1521）年间，赛孟尝徐鹤（字鸣皋）等十二英雄聚义，各仗侠肝义胆、超群武艺，劫富济贫，除暴安良，后在七子及十三生的帮助下，随右都御史杨一清平定甘肃安化王朱寘鐇叛乱、随佥都御史王守仁平定江西宁王朱宸濠叛乱，上演了一出侠骨英雄浴血战斗的精彩大戏。
