It's a sweet book but you need to explain that it is trying to depict what heaven is like. As always Tim Ladwig's illustrations are lovely, especially the final image of a "family photo" with all kinds of people. I think it could spark some interesting discussion on what the "kingdom of heaven" is like.
Other than conveying a sense of family and outdoor fun, I'm not sure what to get out of this book.
I read it aloud to my sons and they had absolutely no reaction, other than to ask "What's a 'Jubilee'?"
I don't know that it's the writing as much as the design of the book, but it appears to be written in verse, and yet it's not. Well...sort of...but not entirely. Sound confusing? It is.
Nice art, probably a nice idea, but nothing happens.
One of the best children's (or anyone's) books ever. Read it before dying, read it to someone who is dying, keep it at hand for a desert island or evacuation. . .
