The process of fermentation has always fascinated me. And then someone ages ago came up with highly complicated methods for concentrating it, letting it sit around and flavoring it. I now know not only the how but the why. The book does exactly what this type of book should do. Explain.
A prolonged discussion on what distillation is and its purpose open this manual. Equipment required is discussed as is the fermentation process. Recipes for mashes as well as cocktails using your product are included as is a guide to resources. This is interesting as incase of civil breakdowns alcohol becomes a valuable commodity.
This is a great introduction to modern hobby distilling. It is true that the same amount of time spent surfing the topic in YouTube would yield similar results. It is very convenient to have so much basic knowledge all in one place. Morris also includes recipes and recommendation of sources for equipment and further study. I was surprised at the excessive amount of time and detail Morris spent on charcoal filtering. It almost felt more like filler then the the introductory knowledge the rest of the volume provides. Over all a great introduction.
Great book to get acquainted with distilling. The book does not dive into very fine details, but gives a solid overall overview of the subject. Highly recommended for anyone interested in starting distilling or just wanting to understand how the process works.
Thanks for the detailed technical and practical knowledge to create alcohol and be self reliant in the process. This book reviews the perks and advantages and methods of the varying distillers. Recommend this book for distillery referencing.
Comprehensive book on home distilling. I wish the author included some more history on himself... why I should trust his advice, his experience in distilling, etc. Besides that a comprehensive easy to read book.
Good info, but sometimes the authors attempts at conversational writing make some passages lengthier than they needed to be. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the home distilling craft.
This is a new resource available to anyone interested in starting a new hobby. This book offers a good amount of helpful tips to make your home distilling project a success.
This was a really good introduction to home distilling. It’s difficult to tackle ALL of distilling in a single, short book but this was a pretty good attempt.
Great for beginners or those who just want to read about the process of distillation. Nice explanation of the beginning process. Tools and tricks of the trade. As well as some nice recipes to finish out a well rounded read.
Decent guide on distillation although you need prior knowledge to take advantage of it. Doesn’t go into crazy detail on anything but covers most things sufficiently
