Tangle of Obsession

Rate this book
Alora Bradbury Walking thorugh a meaningless, routine life has taught Alora one thing. Thriving in the cooperate world is the only thing that should matter, the only thing on her mind, the only mission to focus on and the only ever goal that she has worked this hard for. Finding a tall stranger in her apartment with glasses, a dimpled smile and polite speech was not what was supposed to happen. It was a quick problem she could solve, with her being a lawyer she could easily do that. Not this problem. Not when Alora finds herself wishing for him to stop smiling, hoping he walks the other way, and to stop initiating conversation every single time they find themselves in each other's presence. The frustration that this man brings out of her is immense. The anger at him, at her fate for putting her in this situation is one she cannot explain. The calm and composed Alora whose words could break your very career in the cooperate world is falling weak and she is unable to grasp control over it. All because of one man. One who is desperate to unravel secrets that could destroy the life she spent so much time building. Secrets that will not only burn her into flames but make him hate her all the same. Marcelo Tiago

this reverse sunshine x grumpy was not giving. the female mc is a pick me and acts as if she has a major issue but overreacts and is mean and harsh for no reason, like be grumpy fine, but being rude isn’t being grumpy. and the male mc is such a pussy and a sad bitch and needs to grow some balls, and they both have no chemistry and are so lacklustre to the point i was bored to death; their conversations put me to sleep and literally nothing about them is interesting. clickbaited this book on social media and it’s nothing like reels and posts. the grammar is terrible and needs heavily editing. she’s meant to be a lawyer but her ethics and personality is so trash that she’s actually putting all female lawyers to shame. at least research about it before making a character based on the career. for a woman who’s meant to have class and respect she’s worse than a black bin liner.

ARC REVIEW

My Rating - 4.75/5

First of all, I am so happy that I received one of the ARCs' for this book. I am also happy that it's getting published yayy!

Reverse grumpy x sunshine done right!
That is how i would describe this book. I had a lot of expectations going into this book and needless to say, all were met. I loved the main characters and their banter throughout. They have quickly become one of my favourite book couples of this year.
I personally loved the writing style of the author. The pacing was done right and it is that kind of slow burn which makes you want more. Be it the character's quirks or an elaborate scene , I liked how the author described the smaller details which helped in setting the overall mood.

10/10 would recommend. Do check for trigger warnings before you read.

PLEASE I LOVED IT
Marcelo is soooo good
HE IS THE REASON WHY I LOVE SUNSHINE GUYS OVER GRUMPY ONES😭😭
he's soft for her
He blushes *BLUSHES*
He notices EVERYTHING abt her
He is obsessed with her
Ready to kill for her
(he has a 'lil Zade' hidden inside of him)

'She’s running away from me and I am ready to chase.
Because I feel like she’s put a leash on me and I can’t help but follow her wherever she goes, stay close to her, wanting her to look back at me. Wanting her attention on me.'😭😭😭

"Did you try to steal me away from everyone for yourself?"
Please i love him😭😭

'It made me smile, it made me feel something I only feel around her. Fucking shy.'
'A soft pink tint touches his ears. I bite my own lips to hide my smile. Marcelo is blushing at my words.'

my man is SHYYY😭😭😭

"What are you doing?" Those golden eyes turn dark as they switch to me. "Seeing if a hickey would make you look mine."🧍‍♀️

The family dynamic was good
Alora was good too. A powerful woman.

The delicious slow burn ohhmyygod
I died. Literally. The torture and then i was met with disappointment 😭
My only reason for not giving it 5 is the absence good smut. I mean all that delicious torture and then we aren't even getting reward for our patience??😭

But Anyways, this was the 2nd best reverse grumpy sunshine book for me after Icebreaker( ꈍᴗꈍ)

Okay so ngl I fell asleep while reading this bc the beginning was boring to me, there was nothing much happening and the burn was WAY to slow for me personally I’m sure other people who like waiting till half the book for the romance would enjoy this but alas I did not. Once you hit the more than halfway mark thats where I actually started enjoying myself and sped through the book it took a while to get there though

For safety
-No cheating
-No OW drama

It’s been a while since I steered off of my physical tbr and this reminded me why i should just stick to it. 🙏🏼

Meh :/
This book read like a first draft, it had potential but it kept changing objectives and was inconsistent with it’s direction causing me to be annoyed whilst reading, It could’ve definitely benefited with another round of editing.

oh boy this will be a long review , i can feel it .

first of all , i saw this book on author's instagram account and it really intrigued me , so i started it . the beginning was pretty classic ; random girl and guy accidently move in together , forced proximity and other things . i mean i didn't complained it but like i said , it didn't give me anything new . and before i forget , i'm sucker for reverse grumpy sunshine trope ,so the cliche in the beginning didn't bother me at all . i just have to say , in some parts when the murder case was being explained , i didn't understand the things that's happening , it was so confusing . i said it's okay if i don't understand , i'm sure the author will explain all of it again and she did really , but in the end . therefore i was really confused about somethings through the whole book .

reading little girlfriend boyfriend things always make me so giddy and happy. so, when they go the ice skating or do basic things like eating a lunch together or marcelo's going to the coffee shop just for alora touched my heart so much that i was smiling all the time while reading this book. and i just want to congratulate the author for writing such characters for their individual development and feelings. believe when i say i cried almost every time when alora telling her story and it is not about the horrific things she goes through, it is about the writing style, the reality of it. really, i applaud the author for writing these perfect scenes.
and after so much appraise, let's talk about something that i didn't like . actually disliking is a light word for what i'm feeling. i'm feeling bothered , annoyed and frustrated. why you ask ? fade to black scenes . oh boy , every time i got hype when they are all hot and bothered from all these kissing , i was like okay it is coming i'm so ready for this and i'm sure i will like a lot . because the kissing scenes and other intimate scenes were so perfectly written that i thought sex scenes were going to be like nirvana for me . yeah , i was that hyped . and guess what boys , there is no sex scene , almost , there are only the beginnings of them and then hoop , other chapter . i always believe that intimate scenes are the actual things that what make a relationship special ,real , you know ? and although the book was okay for me to read as the way it is , i would've die from the love for this book if it would contain the whole scene , not just the beginning . i felt like a man who was kicked out of her girlfriend's house after putting on a condom thinking they were going to have sex .(it is childish i know , but i was really frustrated you know , it wasn't just a one time either , every time they do something intimate , something disturbed and stopped them .why???)

and finally the ending , the book came over all the problems and i was finally at 90% of the book . the courtroom scenes were perfect . i finally understood the willow case and i said yes that was the final bump in the plot and after this everything will go perfectly smooth . but i was wrong , again . i don't know why the author thought it was a good idea to kill both of side characters but i wasn't pleased with that part of the story at all. i mean it happened at the 97% of the book and there was no reason for author to add another big event like death of characters. if it hadn't happened, the book would have ended perfectly for me . and i didn't understand why they have to move out from their actual house that contains all their memories . i guess i'm just dumb .

will all that being said , i can say that i love this book . there were things that i didn't like and wanted to change , yes . but in the end i can guarantee that this story will hold a special place in my heart . thanks again for writing alora and marcelo , dear author . ( i hope you will see my review)
end of the review , take care guys .

To tell you this book is a masterpiece is a freaking understatement.
This has made me review a book for the first time.
Except for some editing issues, this book, the storylines, the characters, the well thought out process of emotions throughout …. Wow just wow.
( I think I found my favourite read this year !! 🤭 )

You know the kind of books that give wattpad vibes and are meant to stay on wattpad?
Ya this is that book. While reading the book i felt i was reading some cheesy wattpad romance, while the trope of this book interested me i still expected to see more effort from the author. Instagram reels and the first 3 or 4 chapters i read on wattpad made me read the entire book and it's a lesson for me to not only read a book by seeing quotes on reels. The MMF and FMC were not giving and were rather confusing.Marcelo was a crying bitch the whole time, being a sunshine character i didn't recieve those vibes from him and just putting a smile on your face, it doesn't make you a sunshine character. Alora was an utter disappointed and her back story was not so good like okey i get it she killed her parents but how did she got away with it? It's so confusing at a point i decided to leave the book but still i read it and it's so disappointing. And Akantha? don't let me start on that one cuz she was just trying to protect her brother and i know she didn't knew the back story of alora but still she treated her with love despite all the hate alora got. I expected more but nonetheless it was author's first book still a better job than many other authors.

Though undoubtedly it was a slowburn, this book is well worth the wait. The mere fact that they are holding hands excites you. It's a lengthy read with a plethora of interesting happenings that aren't predictable, like many of these works. I would like to offer Alora a great, big hug. Those who labeled her as mean are the same ones who remained silent when male characters acted cruelly, aloofly, or worse. I have had enough of individuals who defend male behavior while ignoring the same behavior in women. I'm delighted she found Marcello because she is very precious. No, they actually discovered each other. Marcello, too, is the greatest boy ever. So, where can I locate a dude similar to him🥹🥹?

That's my thoughts on this book❤️. It goes without saying that this book lived up to all of my expectations. I adored the main characters' constant banter. They've swiftly emerged as one of my favorite literary pairings of the year.
Personally, I thought the author's writing style was fantastic. It was paced perfectly, with a gradual burn that leaves you wanting more. Whether it was a complex situation or a quirky character, I like how the author captured the little nuances that contributed to the overall tone.
10/10 would suggest. Make sure to look for trigger warnings prior to reading.

I was waiting for this book from so long, I read the first few chapters on wattpad and when it was going to be published as a book I was flying because who doesn't like a golden retriever male lead

The book started off great but I felt it was dragged a lot and I mean a lot ...yes the scenes were cute but you see after a point you want some context and the last 70pages were very fast where in Marcelo's revelations, Aloro getting stabbed, the whole plot was of willow and his murderer and how powerful he was but him losing was shown so easily I wanted the villain to have a little character too and then Molly and Olives death and their revelations and the start of the love-obsession tradition house(I would have preferred if Molly and olive revealed it a little earlier when they met so they could talk about it because it was cute but anyways the authors choice🤷‍♀️)

Overall story was fine and I loved Alora and Marcelo
Story-⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice-🌶🌶

Also this was the authors first published book for which she has done great! kudos to her🖤

FMC - Alora was a hardworking grumpy lawyer with an attitude. Her Rocky past shaped her character and life. With the entry of Marcelo many things change for her she is happy and comes out of her bubble.

MMC- Marcelo is a sunshine boy with cute glasses. I totally swooned over him. He focuses on doing Google things to nice people and thinks twice before he says anything.

This book was a reverse grumpy x sunshine troped one. It was cute and I felt bad for Alora. If you want a cute city romance 💒 , this one is for you !!!

Thank you @_akwaah_ for this ARC💖

This reverse x sunshine dynamic was a first to me. Did I like it? Sure. Could I have liked it more? Definitely. This book had so much potential, the character intro was giving really, she is all mysterious, broody, unemotional and a whole lot of grumpy but mostly she’s a surviver but with that comes the fact she gave a lot of pick me vibes. Coming from a dark romance reader😜❤️‍🔥.
The MMC ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹was just…my poor, little heart, Marcelo was perfectly sweet above all things , he accepted Alora with all her imperfections.hmm🕊🤤 Sighs dreamily: to be loved by a fictional man
Further, I liked the book at first but then I lost interest. For months it was just sitting there and I finally finished it, the book is unnecessarily lengthy, the plot twist is so 🤢I won’t even call it a plot twist. So at the end I just skimmed through the last chapters.

I did enjoy this! I downloaded it on a whim and was quite surprised. I’ve seen some reviews and while I agree with some things mentioned it was still quite a fun journey for me. I liked both the MCs and thought they were an intriguing match. Some parts you could tell needed some editing but overall I liked it! I liked the style of writing as it was quite fresh and different. It was the slowest of slow burns and built the tension in a juicy way. At times it did feel like not much was happening and then you get to the last few chapters and maybe there was too much then happening.

Marcelo was an absolute treat to read about. He really made the book for me. Alora is the grump and sometimes she can just come across as aloof or mean but I kinda vibed with her bad bitch boss energy.

Overall I liked it and would read it again.

❤️‍🔥slow burn
🏡forced proximity/roommates to lovers
🤝found family
☀️reverse grumpy x sunshine
🖤obsessed MMC

✨Thank you to Akwaah for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

✨The tropes are what drew me to this story. A somewhat dark romance with a shy yet morally grey MMC and a grumpy girl boss lawyer living together under one roof?? Sign me tf up

✨Alora Bradbury is a cut-throat lawyer who is quite bitchy but I personally had no problem with that, I read so many books where the MMC is horrible but when it’s an FMC it’s suddenly an issue. Her backstory was quite sad so the way she acted was kinda justified but she probably could’ve been a little nicer. She prefers her own company and basically has no friends. So when she moves into her new apartment and realises she now has to share with Marcelo a complete strange, her world is shaken up. Let me tell you this guy is an absolute simp, he was giving Christian Harper vibes but with golden retriever energy. He is literally obsessed with her from the start and tries very hard to break down her walls and win her over.

✨There isn’t any unnecessary drama or third act break ups which was a plus but I won’t lie I was a little confused with this book as I thought it would follow trial for Alora as the prologue made it seem like it was setting up the readers for court case scenes but that wasn’t the case.

✨This was a somewhat enjoyable read but I do feel that there needs a lot more editing done. Not sure if the author had an editor as I couldn’t find one mentioned in the book by there were some spelling mistakes grammatical errors which is why I’ve had to rate this lower than I wanted to. If there is a possibly for changes to be made I think this book can go on to being even greater as it has so much potential! That being said I know self publishing is such a difficult thing to do, so I’m happy Akwaah has followed her dreams and created wonderful characters. Looking forward to seeing what she has in store for the future 🖤

I will say this book kind of did read like a wattpad story at certain parts but I still enjoyed the book. It’s a slow-burn, reverse grumpy sunshine. She’s a successful lawyer and he’s a technical engineer. I liked the main characters and honestly didn’t care if the female character came off as rude in the beginning of the book. I liked her attitude and the reason why she’s like that is heartbreaking. I love how caring and calm the male main character is when he’s with her. He never raises his voice and gives her time to process things. He’s so in love with her, it’s adorable.

Especially how she keeps Veilo in check ( love it sooo much)

AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG!!
I liked this book. I liked the characters. I liked the plot. I love the author. I've read her new book which is a few months old and then I read this, tbh I didn't realise it was her debut but omggggggg the plot was really good. I'm not gonna spoil for anyone but I liked how humane her characters were and their chemistry was serving since day 1. Marcelo was a total green flag and omgg he was so cute. The way their apprecances were described and tbh I imagined various kdrama scenes in my head while reading. Overall, this was a fun book and I'll definitely recommend <3

The grammar in this book is soo bad and the transitions between scenes 😭😭, it needs heavy editing.

I'm always here for a slow burn story, I liked the MMC but the FMC not that much..
The story of her killing her parents isn't believable for a 11yo girl, and the plot twist at the end that is not a twist at all, wth?

"I'm going to kill him. I regret not going today. What was Veilo doing? Standing there like an idiot?"
Euuh, like you did when that asshole killed your friend in front of you?

I want to give Alora a big BIG hug🥺. People who calling her mean are the one who did not bat an eye when male character act mean or cold, or even worse. I'm so done with people who make excuses for male character but did not give the same impression on female character. She's so precious and I'm so glad she found Marcello. No they found each other really. And Marcello is the BEST BOY EVER. Now where do I find a man like him?! 😭 Where did they hiding. Pls get me one😭

3.5. I really liked the first 300 pages but I lost interest after that. Their dynamic was definitely cute and the smut was good. I liked the fmc, she was different than what I’m used to. Plot was boring but the romance was good. I like a nice slow burn but this was way too drawn out. The ending was 100 pages of the same thing to me. Writing style was unique and idk if I like it yet but I don’t hate it.

Literally the definition of grumpy sunshine or black cat and golden retriever it was really cute i strongly recommend listening to O by colplay on repeat during the last chapter(40) it gives a completely different emotion, she was full of trauma and they both had their hidden stuff it was really good, absolutely no spice so maybe half a 🌶️ the romance was really cute. 4/5

I'm not a big fan of slowburn but this book made me hate it. The author kept dragging the story for sooo long it became unbearable. The writing style is so confusing (I struggled many times to understand who's saying this and that)

And last but not least the main characters are the worst. I don't have a problem with men being whipped for their women but this! No this is next level of being a doormat.

I'm disappointed because I waited for months for this book.
