The phenomenal Lewis Trondheim is never where you next expect him. As an artist and writer, Trondheim has earned an international following as one of the most inventive, versatile, and prolific graphic authors. From autobiography to adventure, from bestselling fantasy and children's books to visual essays, Trondheim's unique, seminal imagination consistently dazzles. His work has won numerous awards, including the Angoulême prize for best series with McConey and he also co-created the titanic fantasy epic Dungeon with Joann Sfar.

He is one of the founding members of the alternative publishing house L'Association, a proving ground for many of the greatest talents in European comics working today. He is also the editorial director of a new imprint called Shampooing, dedicated to comics for all ages.

Lewis lives in the South of France with his wife, Brigitte Findakly, and two children.

I have read this book both stoned and sober and neither way did it ever make sense while simultaneously being highly entertaining and completely hilarious. Trondheim basically started drawing on pages divided up into 16 squares and just goes on and on with permutations of the story and crazy, infantile drawings but with a careful, studied and ironic view of the world and human folly (even while representing humans using rabbits and other fanciful animorphic figures). His editor basically had to tell him to stop or the book could have just kept going forever, like a good sax solo. Maybe not for everyone, but I really loved it.

Bardzo żałuję, że po to sięgnąłem. Jestem fanem serii, których autorem lub współautorem jest Trondheim. Pamiętam zauroczenie "Ralphem Azhamem", no i z wypiekami czekam na nowe tomy "Donżona". A tutaj? Tutaj jakaś komiksowa wprawka, materiał na którym autor ćwiczył warsztat. Może fajne dla fanów, ale 500 stron mocno improwizowanej, w ogóle nieprzemyślanej i w żadnym momencie nie porywającej fabuły? Nie wiem kto oprócz miłośników wykopalisk jest w stanie przez to przebrnąć. Zasypiałem przy "Lapinocie" niezliczoną ilość razy

Sólo he aguantado 25 páginas de un total de 500. Posiblemente sea poco, pero ya con 15 había decidido que iba a abandonarlo. Desde el principio se justifica que Trondheim lo empezó sin saber dibujar, pero además es que la historia no hay por dónde cogerla. Supongo (espero) que luego evolucionará, pero estas primeras páginas son un auténtico suplicio, y no tengo el tiempo (ni las ganas) para darle una oportunidad para que a lo mejor no empiece a mejorar hasta la 200.

Cette bande dessinée nous aspire dans ses méandres d'intrigues et d'événements inattendus qui viennent compliquer la simple tâche de Lapinot qui veut seulement aller à l'ambassade de Patagonie pour trouver les fameuses carottes de Patagonie. Mais il devra endosser le rôle de héros sauveur du monde à son insu, et se retrouver dans des intrigues politiques, des assassinats commandités par des seigneurs maléfiques ou des maires corrompus, ou bien dans des magouilles de gangsters ou de prêtres fanatiques. Les scènes de rêve de Lapinot relèvent quant à elles d'une esthétique surréaliste qui n'est pas sans poésie. Une bd à lire pour tous ceux qui veulent découvrir quelque chose qui sort de l'ordinaire.

Ce livre est l'œuvre d'un éditeur qui décida un jour de dessiner une BD en 500 planches, sans savoir dessiner et sans expérience non plus en scénarios.

On se fait assez vite au dessin, et l'histoire n'est pas trop mal, bien qu'un peu brouillon.

Malheureusement, impossible de savoir si la fin abrupte est voulue, ou si c'est simplement que l'auteur est arrivé la fin de ses 500 planches.

French title: Les formidables aventures de Lapinot : Les carottes de Patagonie.
Lewis does an amazing freestyle storyline for 500 pages without any pre-prepared plot or script! Just lets his ideas take the book over and hoping it will have sense in the end. And actually he pulls it off! Reminds me a little bit of Moebius' Fatal Major which story was also created in similar manner. Even if the style is totally different, the energy and pure fun of it is still the same. It might be confusing, it's structure is terrible, what a pleasure it is to take part of the adventure! Highly recommended!

Défi graphique sorti tout droit de l'esprit de Lewis Trondheim... 500 pages d'improvisation pure et dure, dans lesquelles l'auteur a appris à dessiner, pour une histoire qui malgré cela tient aisément la route. Encore un ovni littéraire à classer dans la catégorie chef d'oeuvres.
