The Deadhead Cyclist may be the most unique book ever written about the Grateful Dead, as it focuses on the deeper meaning behind the magical lyrics that have stood the test of time for more than 50 years, inspiring multiple generations, and adding wind to the sails of a timeless movement that has brought a hopeful, life-affirming message to troubled times. Each of the book’s 52 chapters features a Grateful Dead concert pick for that week (This Week In Grateful Dead History), and offers a Life Lesson, gleaned from a specific lyric of a song performed at that concert. As such, the book is not just for fans of the Grateful Dead, and not just for cyclists, but for anyone searching for a set of guiding principles to live by for a full, happy, and successful life, no matter what your passions might be.
Quite enjoyable for Dead lovers, and with lot of food for thought about life in general. I found his reflections on life and Dead lyrics and past shows quite inspiring. There is a strong emphasis on later life and how to age well, which gets perhaps a little repetitive, but is something we all need to take to heart. One forgets that the band has Dead in its name, and some of the best songs do involve life's endpoint.
cycling and grateful dead - I was sold! This book had the cycling foundation, and a good weekly show selection, but really was about living and aging well. I really enjoyed it. I think I'm going to send my (first) copy as a gift, but will purchase another copy to keep.
