Twenty-three-year-old corporate spy Brina Kingston has a new position as billionaire Luke Maxwell’s executive assistant, a space in his bed and his heart, and the one piece of information that could tear his company and their relationship to shreds. Brina has the password to a secret software project Luke is set to unveil at a conference in six weeks. Brina’s employer wants the password. Brina wants Luke.
When a series of events puts Brina in the crosshairs of one of her colleagues, Luke’s twenty-ninth birthday party presents the perfect opportunity to blow Brina’s cover. And Brina soon realizes that if she wants to be forgiven she must first forgive herself.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cassia Leo grew up in California and has lived in three different countries. She loves to travel and her dream is to one day score a record deal based on her awesome shower singing skills. She is the author of the Shattered Hearts series (Relentless, Pieces of You, Bring Me Home). She is also the author of the popular Luke and Chase series.
I started reading this while trying to pick my next read. I have had Part I of the Luke Series: Mirror on my kindle for a while and just clicked on it to read the first few sentences and well, went all the way to the end in one sitting. These are short reads but I purchased the complete series set after the first so it was like a full length novel.
Brina is a Cornell graduate working with NeoSys which is the 2nd best software company . She gets promoted to Competitive Intelligence Officer...AKA....a Spy.
Her assignment is to get the password for "BLAZE", the greatest innovation to hit the industry since the internet. BLAZE is being created by the number 1 company, Maxwell Computers, owned by the young billionaire Luke Maxwell. Brina is applying to be his executive assistant.
Luke isn't dumb, he knows there are people out there trying to steal his software and his programs. I mean come on, he's a giant nerd, HOT NERD but a nerd....he's smart!
Brian and Luke have an instant attraction but do wither of them know if the other is playing the other?
The obvious happens, the fall in love. Brina is faced with telling him the truth and losing everything. Both jobs and the man she has fallen in love with or to go through with the original plan.
Brina had a brother that killed himself 7 months ago and is extremely affected by it. This tragic incident is what draws Brina and Luke together. She isn't the only one holding something back.
Oh, I have to mention Milo....Milo works with Brina at NeoSys. He has had a crush on Brina since they met and well...we find out Milo has a few tricks up his sleeve...in more ways then one...wink wink!!
After the big reveal, things don't go so well....of course...what kind of book would the man just say, "Oh OK I know you love me and its OK that you were trying to steal something I have worked so hard on" NO, too too boring.
Here is were I think I took my .5 stars away. Six weeks after the reveal, BLAZE is being revealed at a conference that Milo helps Brina get into (see Milo rocks) well when she gets there, she sees Luke with a beautiful blond kissing...NOT GOOD. He apparently started dating her as a rebound but his feelings turned more serious for her. She was a good person and beautiful but....She wasn't Brina. I guess I was just like WHAT THE HELL that he could move on that fast. Seriously, you say you loved Brina that much and you just jump in bed with someone else...HUH, no, I think I would have like to see him suffer, kinda like she was.
WELL....The story gets really good after that. They try to become friends and take a "timeout", at first it didn't last a day but then they were determined to show the other that they were serious about one another, that it was just about the sex....Man, did they have a hard time with that one.
The story starts out being told in just Brina's POV but eventually we get to see Luke's POV as well, which I love!!
This series really pulled me in from the start. At first I was kind of like "DAMN GIRL, don;t waste anytime do you?" but then....who wouldn't with a man like that!
You can really feel Brina's pain. She has so much responsibility, I would be in a pickle as well.
Throughout the series, we watch their relationship go from HOT, to UH OH, to OH COME ON ALREADY, to AWWW!! LOL, best way to describe it. Without giving away any spoilers, the ending was great! There is definitely a HAPPY EVER AFTER!!
I really liked how the Author wasted no time. There wasn't any wasted time in this series. Both characters got right to the point. Yes, at times I wanted to scream at Brina and say TELL HIM ALREADY but of course that would be too boring....shoot, even Brian was yelling at herself in the story!
Cassia Leo really knows how to captivate you from the start. Her characters are all likable and real.
As a side note, I want to add something about the Author's Note in the end....
Cassia Leo lets us know that she is no stranger to suicide. She had a fellow classmate jump off a hotel during class across from the school. Her classmate actually survived a little after the jump and was able to tell this woman his name. She mentions how she always wondered how that woman dealt with that. She also had a friend who committed suicide years later and wonders if she could have done something to be a better friend and stop it from happening. This is what made her characters for this story.
I definitely would recommend this to anyone, it had a little bit of everything. I laughed (their banter is hilarious), I cried (poor Brina and her Brother Ryan, and I smiled at their love A LOT!!
If you want to buy the whole series (actually pretty cheap) Click Here
It's crunch time, Brina should have spoken out before now, but it's too late. Luke catches her with the phone that Josh lost. I suspected that it was a set up, way too easy for her to find it.
At the 4 seasons to celebrate Lukes birthday & Milo shows up. He threatens her to give him the phone or he will spoil her relationship with Luke. Too late just as she is about to toss the phone in the fountain so Milo can't get it, she's trying to buy time & tells Milo that she wants out & is resigning from her job. She doesn't want to betray Luke, but he doesn't know what she's trying to do & just thinks she is going to give the info to Milo.
It all comes tumbling down like a house of cards around her. She wasn't going to hurt him, but that's what happened. Poor Brina, finally found love only to ruin all on her own. Will it be possible to try & salvage Luke & Brina's relationship. I hope so I really love my HEA. Bring on book 4. Ooh these short stories are klling me.
This totally rocks BUT is a cliffhanger! I love this whole story line but waiting for the next book is killing me!!! I read there are two more to come. I cannot wait!
brina finally tells luke about her brother and turns their fling into a relationship. Until she falters and is going to give her other boss the missing phone.
I bought the whole series as Audiobook. I really shouldn't have.
I get that this is a novella, but each book is extremely short. The plot sounds tempting enough, but the execution is awful. Not at all what I expected after having read an exceptional book from the same author only months ago.
Why do I not like it? There is no build-up or anticipation at all. In other words, the main characters have wild sex on the day they meet (just like that, a millionaire CEO sleeps with an employee on her 1st day) and fall in love with each other after the third day. End of part 1. Right... not exactly believable in my opinion. I just kept eye-rolling throughout the book.
The only thing that makes it worth reading is the books steam-factor, but to be very honest, even that come to the rescue of a crappy book.
Sorry, but I'll pass. Well, I did spend $12 on the audiobook so I'll listen to it until the end but it doesn't bode well...
YES!!! This is what I was waiting for. More plot and character development. Brina is all over the place with her thoughts and emotions are running wild. As much as she tries to protect her heart, she feels that it is also her duty to protect Lukes. Her decision was not hers to make and ends up back firing...BIG TIME!! In my opinion she got what she deserved.
This installment was a bit longer and I was sucked right in. No complaints here! I also found that I was starting to emote along side the characters. I am looking forward to reading on!!
This one was surprisingly better than the previous two books on the series. I was going to stop reading but now I won't. It's getting quite interesting.
So Luke and Brina are on a serious relationship now. It's going smoothly until she remembers she was employed by NeoSys to steal a password from Luke.
What I liked about this one is that the main characters not only have sex, but talk about their lives. Brina's past is explained a little more, specially what she'd gone through when the incident with his brother happened.
The end is not covered in honey like the previous two, so that's also something I liked.
As the relationship between Brina and Luke grow, Brina struggles to have the courage to face him and come clean. She has the password to Blaze, Maxwell's top secret project that her employer wants. But all Brina wants is Luke. When she is pressed to hand over the goods or face the consequences of having her cover blown, Brina tries to make the right choice because loosing him is not an option. Except how can Luke ever forgive her for misleading and betraying him? The third installment of the insanely sexy corporate espionage romance, is nothing short of addictive. It is sexy, intense, full of suspense and regret. Need I say more?
This part was so amazing! You felt the love between Brina and Luke. The story just kept getting better as you read! I kept hoping that Brina would tell Luke the truth but didn't. I was hoping that it wouldn't turn out bad as it did. I was really heartbroken when Luke discovered Brina and Milo talking. I wanted a little emotion from him besides what he did but other than that, it was fantastic. I can't wait to read the next installments and I really really hope that things work out!
I love everything Cassia Leo!!! Things heat up between Luke and Brina but she cannot tell if Luke knows she is working for the enemy. Then Brina is confronted by Luke about her spying and the fact that she has the phone with the data on it. Brina loses both jobs and is forced to move back in with her parents and into the house where memories of her brother live everywhere. Milo gets her in to Luke’s big tech show but she is surprised by more than Luke's technology. Part 3 of 5 plus Trust ME.
Why, why, WHY did she NOT tell him when she had the chance....OMG!!! She has to fix this because yea she just does. I was surprised by Milo in the end of this one, and I really think Milo and Jill would make a great couple, lol.
I honestly can't fault Luke too much in this one for being mad BUT he knew the whole time...plus Brina didn't give the phone to Milo. The end of this part has me in a GRRR moment.....
This book is really a stretch. They are together for a week oooh so in love- willing to give up everything for each other... Then 5 weeks after they split from their one week relationship they are so sad and depressed.... Wth?!?
Book moves way to fast. Not enough time to learn and fall for the characters...
But for some reason I'll keep reading. I feel like I am fast forwarding through what would be a good movie...
The saga continues...Luke and Brina are moving very quickly in their relationship. Brina has a lot of guilt because she is torn between giving a programmer's phone (with potential information on it) to NeoSys or coming clean to Luke. Before she can tell Luke the truth, he finds out and let's her go. Lots of predictable drama squeezed into a novella.
I think that this one was the best from all these books. I loved it, to be honest. I think that Luke was right to break it off. She'll learn her lesson, but I do thik that they should get back together. I've already bought the fourth book, and I'm going to start reading after this review.
5 stars for this more realistic part of the story!
Brina tries to tell Luke the truth in this one, but he finds out before she has a chance. It was frustrating, especially since she never has a chance to tell him that she was not gonna betray him. But this one was really hot.
