Angel travelers to Romania in search for Clan Kalderashto to ask them to amend the Ritual of Restoration to allow him happiness without losing his soul.

It's been ages since I saw the TV-series or read an Angel book so it was nice to find Angel graphic novels on Scribd. I actually don't have time for reading graphic novels right now since I need to finish some books. But boy it's nice to take a break from all the books to read a graphic novel instead.

I liked the story in Angel: The Curse. As usual nothing goes as Angel wants because the clan Kalderashto is fighting the regime of Corneliu Brasov. Angel needs to help them fight Brasov to get to Natalya Kalderash because she is the only one that can help him with the curse...

I wanted to give this a try as I LOVE the Angel series. But I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped, I think just because it didn't feel like the Angel I knew. Otherwise it probably would have been fine.

I enjoyed this graphic novel however, I did read (and agree) that there are a lot of unanswered questions. I am excited to read more of these comics and where the story goes.

it feels like cheating to count comic books - trade paperback collected comic books - as books, but on the other hand, I read a 750 page art history this year so I'm not going to worry about it.

this tells a story of angel trying to have a relationship with nina by going to romania to ask the kalderash clan to remove the happiness clause of his soul curse. they are currently battling with an oppressive warlord guy who has a vampire army and a regular army, and it starts off with angel having fallen afoul of the vampire army. it's a pretty brutal comic, mostly battles, a bitter victory for the romani and pretty much a loss for angel, although angel seems to spend half his time brooding and the other half trying to wiggle out of his fate. (not in this comic in particular, just in general. in this comic he spends pretty much 100% of his time fighting).

This starts off fairly well but the final issue feels like everything was wrapped up in a bow too quickly at the expense of Angel's character development. Despite Angel's honest assessment that the other characters, all of whom are original to this run, are doing all the heavy lifting you really don't come to care about them all that much. Angel is hard to do on his own, he needs a core group to shine or he falls flat - that just how he was created. When he's a soulless vampire then it's a bit different but all in all, lack of core characters and to quick of a wrap up are what did this run wrong.

So, Angel goes to Romania to try to get that pesky part of his curse lifted.... I'm not sure quite how (or if) this fits in with the continuity of the Dark Horse post-screen seasons of Buffy & Angel, but it's not a bad story. There are a couple of questionable points (such as there's a Cordelia poster on the hide-out wall, apparently for no reason other than they wanted a Cordy reference), but it's a quick, fun read with nicely average art. It's one of those books you just have to go with for a little while and not ask too many questions.

After finishing the After the Fall arc, this seemed like the next place to go. As I've said before, I'm not a huge fan of this art style where the characters look a bit blocky and have shadows all over themselves. But I enjoyed reading Angel's thoughts on whether he's anti-social and seeing how he fares against these vampires in Romania. The castle's very well illustrated.

Angel gets to help and fight together with the Rom, particularly the descendants of the ones who put the curse on him. Could he finally get to have his curse lifted? That's the wonderful suspence and hope the volume keeps the reader hooked on.

Well that was all for nothing. I got the second graphic novel/collection in this series so wanted to read the first before hand. Hopefully the second is better but this makes me doubtful. The story was ok but with no payoff and a very swift ending it was very lackluster.

Angel goes to Romania. For a moment I thought he was going to met Dracula but nope. Not as I imagined and quite shallow and average story.

I was excited to read this comic, because it takes place after the series finale. As such, I thought it would be more "real." I don't read novels based on the series because they aren't canon. Meaning, anything that happens in a Buffyverse novel is trumped by stuff on the show. Since this story came out after, I thought they could really go somewhere with it.

Nope.

It was interesting to see how other characters were addressed, but the only character we know in this is Angel himself, so all we learn post-season 5 is that Angel survived. The story's a fun read, but it brings nothing new to the table.

After reading this I'm wondering why Angel never attempted to remove the happiness clause of his curse before. He should have been thinking about that back during season 3 of BTVS, but I'm glad we get it here. He cannot succeed but the idea is interesting. I think the graphic novel does a decent job with it but the story with the Rom has been played out at this point. Angel has featured many stories of fascist regimes attempting to eliminate entire groups of people or demons and they all end the same. This one is no different.

The continuation of the Angel story line in comic book form. I was pretty happy about it, good story, and I love seeing my favorite characters continue on.

good action and those quirky thoughts of Angel, but was hoping this would finally close that unresolved show ending. Stop hinting at the "hell" that happened and tell us!
