T he Book of Stones is a new edition of the best-selling guide to some of Earth’s most beautiful natural objects. Two introductory chapters detail the authors’ theories about how to work with crystals and stones—including the concept of crystal resonance and the scientific observation that living organisms (such as ourselves) are liquid crystalline structures. An illuminating alphabetical journey through the mineral kingdom, stone by stone, follows. Each entry begins with the stone name and photo, plus its elemental and chakra correspondences, as well as keywords that indicate its properties. Next comes a description of the crystal structure, hardness, history, and known locations of each mineral, plus any relevant legend or lore from the past. Each author then offers an essay on the subtle energy properties and spiritual applications of the stone. The entries conclude with summaries of the spiritual, emotional, and physical healing qualities of the stone, and an affirmation for evoking its potential benefits. The book’s presentation is straightforward enough to make it an excellent introduction for beginners, yet the level of detail and the depth of research make it an invaluable resource for the most experienced stone practitioners.
I bought this book after a lot of positive reviews and also scolded the delivery boy as he was a couple of days late for the most anticipated book, I opened and found a beautiful blue cover with awesome pictures inside, however when I read the information in the pages I was a little miffed with the information from Robert Simmons view, his observations on the crystals were very much generic in terms like 1) It brings in a lot of positive luck 2) Clears the negativity 3) Bridges the gaps in the auric field etc, I really hate somebody misleading it this way, the part of Naisha Ahsian is good and she has done a good research, but certainly not the best. However I feel there are much better Crystal books, this book resembles Melody's "Love is in the earth" (minus pictures but with all about generic terms) , the pictures are misleading too, as the common crystals vary a lot from the colors in the photographs ( I feel either he has the rare stones or those are digitized), he stresses a lot on moldavite. The plus point of the book is that it has divided the stones in different categories which control the humans, in addition the introduction of crystals is awesome. However I feel that it is a good book, but could have been much better if Robert would have studied the stones and put in the correct information along with healing properties. I prefer Judy Hall and Michael Gienger's books over it.
He has lots of unusual crystals and even one that can only be purchased through him. His book pushes HIS crystals. It is my least favorite book on crystals and one that I never use.
This is a stellar reference book for the properties of stones and especially for their metaphysical attributes. Plus an affirmation with each stone. If you haven't already known of the beauty deep within the earth (besides diamonds and amethysts and a few others that grab headlines), grab this book and settle in for a long read of stones I covet. You'll definitely want Nuummite and Rose Quartz under your pillow. My husband thinks I sleep in a rock pile. Well....
One of the best books about stones I've read so far...but..
I don't like the fact lots of stones are being trademarked. For example, they talk a lot about these special stones named Azeztulite while actually it's white quartz which can be found at just a couple of places. Rare.. well no. Less common than white quartz, yes. While they sell these stones for thousands of dollars online, I've bought pieces starting at 3$ (from both North Carolina and India) from an mineralogist. Yup, you can find them much cheaper, you just have to know where to look.
Another thing what bothers me is the fact he wants to buy all the azeztulites available so everyone who wish to buy or resell azeztulite, must pass him first. Luckily I live in Europe where some of the sellers still have them available.
They also include a couple of 'fake' stones... it's a good thing to include fake and colored ones so you can recognize them and (in my eyes) won't buy them but I had to laugh because they also included properties! Nonsense...
A must-have for everyone who's interested in crystal healing but my advice? Stay away from trademarkers and new age shops, do lots of research so you know what to ask at mineralogists... white quartz from North Carolina instead of Azeztulite, quartz with epidote instead of dream quartz etc and you will save lots and lots of money.
The is far and away the best book on crystals and gemstones you'll yet find. It's beautifully illustrated with full-colour photos of each type of stone and there are So Many listed herein. Each stone is introduced by keywords, associated elements, and associated chakras. The core description begins with a geological notation on the stone's mineral constituents and where the stone is usually found. Thereafter is an intuitive description from Robert Simmons and then an intuitive description from Naisha Ahsian (with occasional descriptions from Hazel Raven). Simmons typically gives other suggestions for which other stones will work well with a given stone. Ahsian typically ends her descriptions with a physical/emotional/spiritual summary and affirmation.
After working with several of these stones, my own experiences are somewhere in the midst of what Simmons and Ahsian have to write. I appreciate the different takes on each stone, as it allows for one to synthesize different perspectives of how the stone may work (or is working) for you. A huge boon to lithotherapy and other healing practices or even if you're just dabbling. It's a pretty pretty book. Cannot recommend it enough!
My go to for learning about metaphysical properties for any gem I encounter. More detailed than the crystal bibles and includes two peoples opinion and writings per stone
The information is vague and generalized and rewritten copping other books written before it. The book of stones is not even close to Melody's work. Robert Simmons takes ordinary quartz stones etc. gives them a different name and then patents them and charges people more money for them making a bundle in the process. He is a con man at best. Writing a book with information making sure to include his own named stones and stealing money from duping the innocent public.
A great reference book for stones and gems. I enjoy the breakdown of the energies of the gems... and having two points of view on each one. Not as complete as Melody's books... still highly recommend this one for anyone interested in Stones and Gems healing energies.
One of the best crystals book for crystal lovers that already have a strong background in the field - More advanced - what I needed .. this will be a reference book for a long time!
The Book of Stones is one of the highest quality efforts to communicate the use of crystals as healing tools. The photography is unprecedented in works of the nature, of which I own most. These authors deserve attention and praise for their erudite knowledge of this subject matter. Although I own at least a two dozen books on stones and crystals as a crystal healer, this book is second only to Melody's exhaustive work in the genre. That book is not better, the two books are different. Worth the money, a collector's item and vast storehouse of reliable information. Highly recommend.
This is a newer book than Melody's and one that I use often. I like how it is written by two authors that provide a feminine and masculine view point. Each Stone and Crystal has a passage by both authors. There is also a quick reference for each item that lists the Physical, Mental and Spiritual characteristic of each Stone or Crystal. Each Stone also has a color picture so it is easy to identify each stone.
One of the pre-eminent source manuals on gemstones and crystal therapy.
I was led to this book by my 'intuitive' sister and grew to love it as she does. Since that time, I have found that everyone who is the least bit knowledgeable on the subject of gemstones has read this book.
Much more like an encyclopedia, if you love crystals and gemstones you will return to this book time and time again.
A 'must-read' for those who are interested in crystal therapy!
It's more of a reference book so I haven't read it cover to cover... This is a wonderful book if you want to learn more about crystals and their metaphysical properties. It is full of great stone descriptions from two leading stone experts and contains full color photos of all the stones. It was co-authored by one of my clients.
I think it is the best metaphysical stone book that includes pictures I've seen. I don't always agree with Robert Simmon's perspectives on the stones, but I can resonate with a lot of what Naisha Ahsian says and also Hazel Raven. I like the index and appendix as well as the individual summaries of the stones.
One of the best reference books for crystals that I've seen. Beautiful color photos, lots of less common crystals, decent index to assist one in searching for the right stone by symptom or need. The only other thing I'd have like to have seen is a short section on layouts, elixirs, or other ways of healing with the stones. Got this from library but its now on my wish list.
An excellent reference for people interested in the metaphysical properties of stones. I consult this book regularly. I particularly like how there are two authors who give their distinct takes on each stone. Very handy book if you are into practical/nature magic as well.
Excellent manual of properties and metaphysical attributes of stones. Provides wonderful insight to what the earth provides for us to live and heal by. Easy to reference with beautiful photos of each stone.
This beautifully illustrated encyclopedic guide to healing stones is full of both geologic information and interpretations of the metaphysical and healing applications of these crystals, minerals and metals. A wonderful resource for anyone interested in crystal healing.
Its not something you're likely going to read front to back, but its a good go-to reference guide as you need it. If a crystal comes through in a session with a client, I often cross-reference it with this book.
So comprehensive! Beautiful pictures for each stone, which are so helpful for determining what are the stones I have in my hand. This is going on my "would love a copy for my personal library" list.
One of my favorite "go to" reference books for detailed information about crystals and gemstones. Anyone who works with rocks should have this one hand!
"The Book of Stones" by Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian is a comprehensive guide to the world of crystals and gemstones. It delves into the physical characteristics, historical uses, and purported metaphysical properties of hundreds of minerals.
Each stone gets a dedicated entry with information on its geological formation, chemical composition, historical and cultural significance, and its potential uses in crystal healing and meditation. High-quality photographs showcase the diverse beauty of each stone, aiding in identification and appreciation. This book covers a vast array of stones, making it a valuable resource for both beginners and experienced crystal enthusiasts. The layout is clear and easy to navigate, with information presented in a concise and accessible manner. The high-quality photographs and overall design make the book visually appealing and engaging.
"The Book of Stones" is a valuable resource for those interested in exploring the world of crystals and gemstones, offering a comprehensive overview of their physical characteristics, historical uses, and potential applications in personal growth and healing. However, it's important to be aware of the limitations of the book, particularly the lack of scientific evidence for the metaphysical claims. Readers should approach the information with an open mind and critical thinking.
This book is a good starting point for those curious about crystals and gemstones.
I bought this “textbook” at a gem store and used it to build a “starter kit”. About $500 later, I’m thoroughly enjoying my new “hobby”. I love the pictures and easy education and being given 1-2 assessments and opinions on how to use each stone. It would be a lot more overwhelming without the indexes.
I see the complaints from some people that the author is trademarking some stones so he can resell at higher prices. Well, I cannot blame him for being an entrepreneur and wanting to cash in on his years of experience and knowledge. However, I do appreciate the heads up and it explains why so many of the mentioned stones were hard to find.
So far, my only complaint is that the reference list in the back of the book that correlates which stone to use for which ailment seems incomplete. So far, I frequently notice that the stones mentioned are obscure when I know I read in the book’s description of a more mainstream stone that it was suitable for the situation. I suppose it’s an opportunity for me to research and develop my own list rather than just default to their recommendations.
I intend to refer back to this book frequently as I grow my knowledge and try to figure out how I might be able to use crystals more often in my work and personal life.
A wonderful reference tool. I have been consulting this for years and have always appreciated the attention to detail and wealth of information provided. This book provides both metaphysical and physical information unlike the majority of 'crystal reference books' on the market- which makes it stand out and for good reason! If you can only buy one book on stones, let this be it.
Be warned however there are a lot of 'trademarked' stones and the like. I feel this is inevitable in regards to how commercialized this 'hobby' or 'spirituality' has become. Take some things with a grain of salt.
This is a regular go to, for me. I don’t always agree with everything presented, but everyone experiences crystals and stones a little differently. I will say I had an experience with a crystal when meditating with it and then looked it up in my various crystal tomes to compare with, and this book was the only book to mention it as a specific crystal for exactly what I experienced with it, so I definitely respect the authors and their povs.
