Collected for the first time in a single book are six of L’Amour’s finest Western stories. The texts have been restored according to how they first appeared in their initial publication in magazines.
Jim Sandifer knows he’ll lose his job at the B Bar Ranch as well as the girl he’s sweet on when he prevents a raid by some B Bar men on the Katrischen Spread in “The Turkeyfeather Riders.”
In “Four Card Draw,” Allen Ring wins a small ranch—until the town marshal shows up and tells Allen he can’t live there because a murder that had taken place there is still unsolved.
In “Home in the Valley,” Steve Mehan has driven a herd from Nevada to California in the dead of winter and has the money safely on deposit with Dake & Company. But upon his arrival in Sacramento, he learns that the bank has failed.
Also included in this collection are “Man Riding West,” “West Is Where the Heart Is,” and “Fork Your Own Bronco.” The stories in Glory Riders easily reveal why Louis L’Amour is the greatest Western writer of all time.
Louis Dearborn L'Amour was an American novelist and short story writer. His books consisted primarily of Western novels, though he called his work "frontier stories". His most widely known Western fiction works include Last of the Breed, Hondo, Shalako, and the Sackett series. L'Amour also wrote historical fiction (The Walking Drum), science fiction (The Haunted Mesa), non-fiction (Frontier), and poetry and short-story collections. Many of his stories were made into films. His books remain popular and most have gone through multiple printings. At the time of his death, almost all of his 105 existing works (89 novels, 14 short-story collections, and two full-length works of nonfiction) were still in print, and he was "one of the world's most popular writers".
Six short stories. The old west. Cowboys. Indians. Pretty women. Good guys and bad guys. Guns. Violence. Horses. Cattle. Gold. Good vs. evil. I left my comfort zone to read these stories. They were fun. L'Amour can write in a way that is entertaining. If you enjoy stories about the undeveloped west, you'd probably love this one.
Six short Westerns by the master Western writer Louis L'Amour set in the old West. The struggle with evil is embraced with a touch of romance included. A read that can be enjoyed in one day.
Well, pardner, these here are decent enough short stories, but I reckon the characters are a might interchangeable. There shore are shootouts an' cattle an' tough hombres an' fisticuffs an' purdy women, and such and so forth. I did like the one about the feller racin' across Oregon, tryin' to beat the steamboat to the bank. I reckon if you're running an Old West RPG, you'll find yourself some mighty fine source material here.
In all the stories Louis L'Amour writes the good guys get themselves in a bad place that looks to be the end of things, but manage to never give up and turn things around. These are the stories that have inspired young men for over a hundred years now. Unfortunately the good guys have had thier hands tied by lawyers that are greedy and vicious to make a name for themselves, throwing honesty and doing the right thing a criminal offense. If our society today still lived by that way of life from then we wouldn't be in the mess we are today. It's getting harder and harder to do the right things in today's world but most times the Good Guys and Women still prevail.
Pretty good collection of western short stories by Louis L'Amour. I'm fairly confident they are from his early years...they show signs of his later style, but they are a little rough. Still, it was an enjoyable read on a slow, lazy day.
Fun, fun, fun!! Have an extra hour? Read these great short stories by one of the best weaver of tales of the old west, Louis L'Amour! If you love tall tales where the good guy always wins you will be enchanted!
I haven't read Louis L'Amour in years other than to re-read some of his books. I hadn't read these shorts but recognised some of his later books that stretched these stories out. It was like old times when I could a read Louis L'Amour for the first time.
I enjoyed reading each story in this book. I have been reading Louis L' Amour books since I was a young girl. They are well written with very little cussing, if any with good story lines.
What is there to say about Mr. L'Amour and his short western novellas, other than FANTASTIC!!! Your going to love reading them. They all have good plots and characters, but each novella reads differently...simply marvelous..ride hard and read easy everyone...
I am a long time L’Amour fan. Good short stories but I prefer a regular length novel to short stories. I have a collection of his books that go back almost 50 years. My dad was a big L’Amour fan and started me reading his books in my early teens.
A collection of western short stories by Louis L’Amour. I’ve heard of the author but never read any of his westerns. He wrote a lot of westerns and I read this book on my way out to Glacier National Park.
As the title indicates, a series of six short stories from the pen of Louis L'Amour. These, according to the preface, are all early work published in various magazines.
I have been a fan of Louis L'amour for many years now. When I came across this collection of short stories by him, I thought I would read them. Now one thing about Louis L'amour stories is that sometimes you will have read a book that was originally a short story not knowing it started life as a short story and then come across the short story in a collection of short stories and go what the heck. But that is what I like about them you get a chance to the original idea he had for the story. Like. I said I am a fan of Louis L'amour and I enjoyed reading some old stories by an old favorite. These are stories worth reading again and again.
I own and have read all of the 140 leatherette Louis L'Amour novels., which enjoyed very much. I liked this short story novel very much and give it my 5 star review.
