Mark Mason's previous non-fiction includes The Importance of Being Trivial, Walk the Lines, The Bluffer's Guide To Football and The Bluffer's Guide To Bond. He is also the author of three novels, and has written for most British national newspapers (though never about anything too heavy), and magazines from The Spectator to Four Four Two. He lives in Sussex with his partner and son.
I must admit I'm a big fan of Bluffer's Guides- in my teens I read two of them (The Feminism and Jazz guides) and they were great, funny introductions to both themes- and later I read a few more that were intresting too. They present themselves as a guide to talk about something you don't know the first thing about, but they also work great as beginner's guides that make you want to learn more.
As a big fan of the Bond universe, I knew most of what is said here- yet I got to learna few things and specially I had fun reading this. It's specially good for those who have never read Fleming but have seen the movies, and though some the facts are not right, overall is a funny little book about Bond that everybody can enjoy, fans and not fans.
This book is designed for those that have not read the Fleming novels but want to pretend that they have; he got some of the basic Bond facts wrong but it is very funny though.
