The Bakers are full of excitement as they head to the English countryside to celebrate Grandfather Wilson's eightieth birthday. When an elderly neighbor with Alzheimer's disease tells a tale of treasure lost on the high seas, the Bakers are sure she has confused reality with fiction. But as they find information that supports Old Marge's story, they begin wondering whether there is truth in it after all. Can the discovery of an ancient treasure help Old Marge stay in her beloved cottage and out of a nursing home? This question sends the Bakers on a swashbuckling adventure of mystery and peril, following an old diary through mysterious caves and a maze of clues in search of the missing treasure. Along the way, their quest is marked by amazing providences that point to this key God's ways are always right and true.
This book was just as good as, if not better, than Summer of Suspense Miss Hedgcock did a fabulous job with this one. I felt like I was right there with them experiencing the adventure; the excitement in it kept me turning the pages very quickly.
I really appreciate the strong, Biblical values Miss Hedgcock portrays throughout this whole series and I can't wait to read more of her work.
A really enjoyable read for the whole family! This series just gets better and better, with more and more adventures and more mysteries to be solved! A wonderful family friendly series!
Let me first start off this review by saying that I recommend this book and series so much for kids. It’s very influencing in a good way, because of how the Baker Family’s lives revolve around Christ and Christianity and it’s so encouraging! Their family is so lovable and as you keep getting to know them book by book, you start getting attached as if they are real. This is what makes C. R. Hedgcock a good writer! She makes it real.. not only the characters; but the story and the faith portrayed in this book. In this sequel of the series, we see that the Baker Family is on another adventure. An adventure in England! We also get to see some favorite characters come back from the first book as well! 😍❤️ The mystery was very well thought out, and was solved by the end of the book. (Thank goodness, no cliffhangers lol) The sibling relationship among Philip, Abby, Andy, and Tom was so sweet 🥹 and I absolutely loved their Grandparents! In conclusion this was a great sequel to the series and a good book that younger kids would enjoy!

I wholeheartedly recommend this book, for all ages. The way it is written, it keeps you reading and feeling involved. This is a great book. PERIOD. It makes me think twice about Gods planning for every word we say, every step we take. and that if so-in-so didn't say this or 'he' didn't move at that very moment-...Jesus is the center of it all. He makes all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord.
Wonderful book, with an interesting story line and a good family unit modeled. The main character isn't a character, but rather an entire family with what America would call too many kids, and those kids are considerate to each other, and clearly love one another. Overall, well written and worth your time!
I found this book hard to get into. It felt as if it took a very long time getting started, and even when it did it felt like a long time until I was really drawn into the story. But the second half of it was very good, and I ended up enjoying it quite a lot. The characters were relatable, and the historical mystery running through the book was exciting. While some of the means the Bakers and the other main characters used to thwart the criminal's plans were brilliant and made me smile, I didn't like the amount of times they lied to put the thugs off the track. That could easily have been left out, but it happened several times and it annoyed me because none of the characters seemed to view it as lying. I loved seeing a certain character again - I did guess that it was him, but that twist was so clever and I really enjoyed it. Overall, this is a very nice book, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Recommended for (approximately) ages 10-13.
Very clever mystery . . . loved all the riddles based on Scripture.
My family loves CR Hedgcock's books so much that between us we own three complete sets! If you are after a book that is full of mystery, families working together, and love for God and His Word, then look no further! You won't be disappointed. :D
The second installment of this series was even more exciting than the first. Well written and constructed, with good, round characters that are a positive example of faith and morals. A clean read for youth that is actually interesting!
Packed with adventure, Peril on Providence Island is sure to thrill! The writing quality has improved since the last book. I did however catch one slight mistake: Mr. Baker, an American, called a flashlight a torch, which is the British word for it. Regardless, I greatly the adventure and the author's application of Isaiah 1:17, "Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow."
