Charlie continues down her path in SYNERGY - the third book of the SEE series. SYNERGY begins with Charlie coming to grips with a string of horrific nightmares; visions in which she is surrounded by death. Ashes fall from the skies and cover the ground. Is this a piece of her past? A terrible future? And still Charlie stands by her love. Draven, afflicted by some unknown torment, seems determined to separate himself from her. As he struggles with his own demons Charlie discovers a devotion to him she never fully realized. Within herself, she finds the drive to help guide Draven through his pain, but is she prepared to face the full nature of this boy she has loved for so long? But fate has much in store for these star-crossed lovers. Forces conspire to pull them into Esterious, brought by a team of mysterious new allies, led by a girl - Madison’s enigmatic twin. All the while Silas watches over Charlie, threatening to kill Draven should they make one misstep. Can Charlie continue her hunt for Bianca and help Draven conquer his inner terrors? And what of these new ‘friends’, compelling them to venture into new worlds? Will Charlie and her friends withstand the dangers that await as they rush to save two imperiled rulers from a doom that threatens millions of lives across multiple dimensions?
I'm an obsessive daydreamer. Lover of loud alternative music. I love to laugh until it hurts. Fall is my favorite season. Black is my favorite 'shade.' Strong believer in the saying: there is a reason for everything, therefore I search for 'marked moments' every moment of everyday...and I find them. Life is beautiful!
Synergy is book #3 in the See series. Let me begin by saying I have read both the Insight and See series by Jamie Magee and loved them both. The characters and the series have merged together and the plots grab a hold and keep you reading page after page you just can't put them down.
Synergy however is the only book out of all that did not do that for me. I'm a bit disappointed (sorry Jamie). It felt an awfully like a repetition of Vindicate just through different characters perspectives. It's not bad I'm definitely not saying that but after reading Vindicate and then coming to this one it didn't leave a lot for you to imagine about. It was more a deeper insight into what was happening in Vindicate through the See characters eyes.
All of the characters Draven, Charli, Madison,Monroe, Aden, and Silas are as captivating as ever. You definitely get a deeper look into their past lives, feelings and emotions and how they are going to handle themselves.
One things for sure can't wait to see where Jamie Magee's imagination takes these stories next.
Just to clarify, if you're just reading the See series alone then it's about a 4 star book. However, if you're reading it as apart of the Web of Hearts and Souls series and you're reading it in the correct order (meaning that you've just read Vindicate before this) then it's a 1 star based on the fact that it's basically the exact same book just from a different perspective. So yeah... I pretty much just read the same book twice.
I am definitely glad both these series came out at the same time because you got to see what was going on from both the insight characters point of view and the see characters point of view. these books definitely meshed together well. Like I said before love these series and the author is great.
As other reviewers have said, this book takes place concurrently with Vindicate of the insight series and for that reason there is some overlap. The first half of this book takes place before Willow arrives in Salem, but the rest of the book is the trial of Mars from Charlies point of view. This sets up one of my lest favorite situations when reading a series, reading the same story from a different point of view. I will admit that Charlie is not always in the same place as Willow, so there are some new pieces of the puzzle revealed, but it still made for a less exciting read.
Another awesome read!! Every time i think i have the love triangles figured out more fly at me!!...and i love it!! The angst, the tortured glances and thought, love love love... Keep it up Jamie...I just love this series!
The joy of seeing all these characters interact continues in Synergy as we read Charlie's POV when meeting Willow and her crew.
I'll start by saying that this book - though half of it takes place at the same time as Vindicate - is absolutely NOT REDUNDANT. If you're dedicated enough to the characters, you'll learn a ton of new things in Synergy.
I'm in awe at Jamie Magee's plotting skills. She must have prepared the whole series 10 books in advance. Everything happens slowly, yet quickly and it just falls perfectly into place. I've said it already in my Vindicate review but rereading this series is a MUST. You kinda need to be crazy about it like I am, but I assure you, it is a pleasure to understand what's happening before the characters realize it.
Sooo in Synergy we come back to Charlie, Draven, Madison, Aden, their crew and their darkness. Draven's self-loathing is at its peak while Charlie tries to understand her past lives, Silas' role in them and even Aden's and Madison's. When they finally decide to go to Chara, Chara arrives at their doorstep with a distraught Willow asking for help.
I did not remember Charlie's past life and how important it was regarding her relationship with Willow and Landen so it was very pleasing to rediscover all this. It's juste like the vibe between Drake and Draven or Willow and Draven, I can't wait to read more of these friendships!
I feel like this series, in all its intensity, is an ode to human relations. The fated relationships we read about are not limited to soulmates. It's also about friendships that crossed time. The fact that the characters just have a gut feeling and start defending each other without asking question just warms my heart.
I don't want to drag my already huge review so I'll just finish by saying that Madison is still my favorite character in the series. She's intense, loyal, wise and sensitive, all the while being a fricking savior and keeping everyone in check. She ends up in a difficult position but that's how we'll get Blakeshire, sadly the only book (for now?) centered of her and Drake...
Oh and THE BIRD?? Hellooooo *fire-fire* I did not remember Charlie had witnessed THAT MOMENT.
I make no secrets of the fact I love the See characters ..young, feisty ..
As Charlies nightmares continue ..Draven draws back ..his own inner demons taking over ..Enter Silas ..who has sworn that if Draven (as if he would) harms Charlie he would end Draven without hesitation ..
We meet new characters ...travel across countless dimensions ...
*** You will have to have read the previous 2 books in the Series****
The reading order is See, Witness and Synergy ..all available in paperback and Ebook
This book was really good and gave a second perspective on the story. It also filled in a few holes, as well as dropping huge new nuggets of information. However, after reading the five insight series books, and now all three of the see series books, I find myself unsatisfied. The story is not done, there is plenty left for the characters to do. Love triangles are not resolved, and the whole thing ends on a sort of a cliff hanger. I'm not ready to part with the characters or the story yet. I hope the author finds it within herself to complete the journey.
I love reading different perspectives and this book fulfilled what I was looking for in the last book thus capturing my attention once again. Reading the characters come together and face the challenges that's laird before them and the immense family feeling they have for each-other is true loyalty. So much more is revealed with the characters of this series that definitely leaves questions and little answer that I assume will be delivered in due time, the plot was the same as Vindicate, traveling to the realm and fighting against the illusions and darkness and coming out as a whole.
I have read both the Insight and the See series. I thought that I was going to really like both series but this book just didn't do it for me. I dont know if it was because I read Insight first but I felt like Willow started trusting them immediately and even liked them from the start but Charlie did not. She seemed to complain about the Insight characters more I felt like. It was still and awesome book but I think that I enjoy the Insight series a lot more.
I think I skipped a book I was totally lost with this story and what happened to draven and landon and drake. I definitely missed something so this book caused me to stress because I couldn't get into the book. I hate how the series are they are messed up. I went from Willow to Charlie and it wasn't good. Very confused honestly don't know if I will move forward with this series.
I really like that Jamie tells the same story in vindicate which os from willows POV and this one is told from Charlie's POV. I enjoy seeing how everyone deals with the trials they all endure. Excellently written, gives us some answers about Dane and Clarissa that were left for us after reading Vindicate.
Finally finished this installment in the series. I wish I had more time to read - I'd knock out this series quickly. The books are good -and she's spot on with tying the two stories together. This book was a good example of seeing the same event from Book 4 from a different point of view. Great job Jamie.
2020: Ouuuu and the plot thickens! I don’t remember this being how both gangs meet, in this Realm. But it was a good plot, twists and turns. I wonder what will come of Madison and Drake? Winston?! That little bugger...
This is the third book in the See series and the eighth book in the Web of Hearts and Souls series. This book is Charlie and Draven's perspective of the fifth book of the Insight series and the seventh of the Web. Wonderful addition to the Web!
