Reading, writing, and white-water rafting are the three things Anitra Lynn enjoys the most. She is the author of erotic romances from contemporary to science fiction and everything in between. Even though her tales range from sensual to sizzling, with settings from the high rises of New York to the distant shores of an alien world, one thing all her stories share is compelling characters involved in unforgettable romances.
I read this because Veronica/V seemed to flip her lid over this series. I have seen this writers' books before but I really thought it would be the same old, same old and nothing really interested me. Well this one is NOT same old, same old. This is kinda weird. Not at all what I expected. It's about Bailey Morgan but not. And it's about the world they live in but it's not. It is about Dillon McBride, who only goes by 'McBride'. There are plot lines that were started that will be finished or have light shed on them in later books.
Why 3 stars and not 4 or 5. Well one star because it seemed to really try get you involved in the MC's but it doesn't really commit to one set of MC's. That was difficult since the book is primarily about McBride but is called Bailey Morgan. 1/2 star is the total and complete lack of information going into this 'world'. There is a lot of reading words but having no understanding until you get to another paragraph or scene and hopefully if you remember what confused you, you can get the gist. 1/2 star to entire stories told or remembrances mid coitus. If I thought of that much stuff in between the first push in and the first pull out, I would be totally flummoxed and would ask for a restart or do over. (That is if I could get back in the mood after what I was thinking about.) I am all for back story, especially since we were given no idea of the world these people live in, but lets not mess with a sex scene to get me the info. Maybe before hand or afterwards? The interruption really cut the romance/passion that the MC's might have had had we learned that [the beginnings of love/lust/passion] instead of some distant thought or memory.
Oh and I am going to keep reading. There were stuff mentioned that I am going to need to know about or see some resolution. I am hoping the second book will be an easier read since I just went through boot camp, as it were.
This could have CLEARLY used a prologue to introduce the world to readers instead of fumbling your way around figuring out how it works.
It also is not strictly about Bailey, who is the nicest and sweetest of the brothers being the baby..but about how McBride relates to them and to Caleb in particular.
Despite struggling to understand how the world works for this series, I really liked this book..definitely want to see where the mystery of slammer deaths will lead to, along with the mystery behind the brothers blood feeding of the master.
Confused me at first but once I got into it loved it. Bailey is sweet for someone his size and Ferris suits him well. I can't wait for the next book and to see which brother will b the next to get a companion.... Also I can't wait to find out how things progress with mcbride and Caleb. Anitra has outdone herself with this Terrific start to the series and while this is different from her other books it is definitely one of her best.
I have to say that I greatly enjoy Anitra Lynn Mcleod's books. Now that said I was greatly disappointed by this book.
First off you are given no background in the story. While that might have worked with Twin Pines Grizzlies because the characters don't really know whats going on either, in this book it just doesn't work I was confused on what was going on and how the world of it worked. It didn't really explain anything about how the world worked. I mean I didn't even know that there were no women anymore until I read the summary of the second book. I mean really that should have been explained I shouldn't have to rely on the summary of the second book to tell me about the world it takes place in.
The second thing that really got to me was that the story summary set up the story to seem to be about Dillion McBride getting one of his men a mate. Its an interesting concept and I figured that it would be like an arranged turned into love of their life with little bits of McBride helping and background of McBride and Caleb. But it wasn't like that at all. It was insta-love between Bailey and Ferris, then they were dropped like it was nothing. I felt like I was tricked into a story that should have been about the main couple and really didn't have anything to do with them. The story spent so much of its focus on McBride and Caleb relationship that you didn't actually get to know Bailey and Ferris.
It was disappointing and while I greatly enjoy Anitra Lynn McLeod works and this just fell flat for me and I really wanted to enjoy it too, so it kinda breaks my heart that it didn't seem to work and makes me really unsure if I want to read more of the series.
Bailey Morgan what an interesting read. Was not sure about it but found it to be a little fascinating. First it is futuristic and second of all it is about a future earth where there are no women all killed of from a virus and men are turned into blood drinkers. There are classes of people the Landed Gentry, the have slaves called slammers and then there are the thralls and the grinders. So here is Dillion McBride land owner and gentry, he has seven brothers who are his slammers and he is out to find mates for all of them. So I have to say after taking care of the youngest brother Bailey I have found this storyline a little interesting and will continue on with all the brothers each and everyone. Heads up this is m/m storyline.
Fascinating works building. I'm not thrilled with the Alavert aspect but it's realistic. Definitely a book written to be erotica. Education/voyeur scene hot but could definitely have been hotter.
Teeth don't itch. If they are canines, they stick down and are the teeth most used for pulling and shredding. If they had feeling, it would be painful to eat.
Ridiculous that a thrall would question his owner's ability to love him, even ask about it, at the mating ceremony one day after they met.
This is kind of a serial in that the only resolved is the relationship and I'm curious to read more. But $5 a pop for these seven short books is a lot of money for stories that aren't amazing.
I HAVE NO IDEA where Ms. McLeod gets these plot bunnies from.....oh to be a fly on the wall when her muse speaks...but I'm hooked on her crack fiction. I preordered the rest of the books in this series.
2.5 Stars The thing that bothered me the most is that half the book is just one night of Bailey meeting Ferris. I get the need to take your time, but half a book? It was too much. And it made everything else seemed rushed. Honestly, it gives the feeling of a unfinished book, like one full book got split into seven smaller sections (probably so that each brother gets his own book). I might be wrong, but I guess I'll see when I read book 2.
I honestly have to say that the cover of this book made me feel insecure to read it. I was wrong, the idea and plot are good, maybe a little more action (non-sexual) would be even better. The mix of dystopian future, vampires, aliens, BDSM makes history somewhat different.
Ummmm...it was OK. The concept of writing a series and basically releasing them together or in close succession was so exciting to me! But Im not sure this is living up to my expectations. I felt like I was thrown into a futuristic world that I knew nothing about and got little explination. Myfav part of any story..the LOVE...felt secondary. This author does futuristic amazingly which was evidenced by the Enslaved series. Im hoping that the expertise Im accustomed to will show itself soon...Im on book 3.
The only reason I am not rating this one star is because I finished it. I was really disturbed by this for some reason. I didn't know it was going to be like a master/slave type thing. I didn't like McBride and his "owning" of people. I didn't like how McBride had to be there during the sex. Yes, I get they were both virgins, but come on. They'll figure it out and didn't Bailey say he watched porn? UGH. This seriously skeeved me out.
I havent really read anything like this before, I would say this is probably more of a 3.5 star book because there really wasnt enough world building for the book to make much sense. However I am expecting more to be uncovered as the series goes along.
I picked this book once, and put it down at 10%. Picked it twice and... put it down again at 15%. So one day I picked it for the third time, keeping an open mind, and I finally made it till the end. It's a very good book after you understand [kind of] how the world they live in actually works.
I don't really know how i feel about this one just yet. I feel like rather than name this for Bailey Morgan, it should've been a prequel to Caleb Morgan. Or maybe name it after the Sheriff. I think the story surrounding Bailey himself could probably be summarized in 5 chapters: and this has 13. I'm feeling a bit disheartened but I will hold out hope for the next couple of books.
Interesting premise/twist to a "vampire" story. I love love love when an author walks through a hot sex scene in full detail, in all its kinky glory. This one totally did it for me.
