Jayant Vishnu Narlikar was an Indian astrophysicist and emeritus professor at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA). His research was on alternative cosmology. Narlikar was also an author who wrote textbooks on cosmology, popular science books, and science fiction novels and short stories.

नवीनच ओळख झालेल्या एका मैत्रिणीने हे पुस्तक मला वाचायला दिलं होतं. बोलता बोलता सहज जेव्हा मी तिला मला नारळीकरांनी लिहिलेलं 'आकाशाशी जडले नाते' हे खूप आवडल्याचं सांगितलं होतं, त्याच्या दुसऱ्याचं दिवशी तिने हे पुस्तक मला आणून दिलं होतं. नारळीकरांची शैली इतकी रोचक आणि खिळवून टाकणारी होती. मी संपूर्ण रात्र जागून ते वाचलं होतं. माझं मराठीतलं बहुदा हे पहिलचं विज्ञान कथा वाचन होतं. किती भारावून गेले होते मी. त्याच सुमारास, मिशन मार्स हे अभियान चालू होतं. कितीतरी दिवस मी आणि माझी मैत्रीण, त्या मिशन बद्दल, परग्रहवासीय आणि त्यांची जीवसृष्टी यावर चर्चा करायचो. फारच मंतरलेले दिवस होते ते. त्यानंतर परत कधी मला मराठीत विज्ञान कथा फारशा वाचायला मिळाल्या नाहीत. 'यक्षांची देणगी' मात्र सदैव माझ्या स्मृतीत राहील.

२०१६ हे मराठी विज्ञान कथेचं शतकोत्तर वर्ष आहे. त्या निमित्ताने परत एकदा ही सगळी पुस्तकं वाचायचा माझा मानस आहे.

As far as I could remember, this book was my first shot at sci-fi and to this date I am very grateful to author for not disappointing me a bit. Maybe it's not the best collection of sci-fi's out there but it's most favorite of mine. Every story in this collection has a genuine theory applied and very carefully interwoven in the plot. And maybe the most important thing of this book is the author of the book is a renowned cosmologist and knows his facts. So, each scientific theory in the book is very neatly explained with examples if necessary and so, more easy is what book has become. For every marathi reader who has any interest in sci-fi, this is an absolute must-read.

अप्रतिम.. विज्ञानातल्या अनेक शाखा, त्यातल्या संकल्पना, सिद्धांत काल्पनिक कथांतून सांगणार एक पुस्तक. या पुस्तकातल्या बहुतेक कथा ७०-८० च्या दशकात लिहिलेल्या आहेत, पण आजच्या काळातही त्या तितक्याच समर्पक वाटतात. समाजात असलेल्या अंधश्रद्धा, वाईट प्रवृत्ती ह्यावर त्या काळात वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोनातून भाष्य करूनही आजही दुर्दैवाने गोष्टी बदललेल्या नाहीत. धूमकेतू, ग्रहण या संबंधी असलेली भीती, त्याचा गैरवापर करणारे भामटे, मुलगाच हवा यासाठी धडपडणारी जोडपी हे इतक्या वर्षानंतर तसाच आहे. दुसरीकडे तंत्रज्ञानावर अति विसंबून राहून सुद्धा मानव आपला विनाश कसा ओढवून घेऊ शकतो हे पण काही कथांमधून मांडलय. science fiction मधून मनोरंजन, जिज्ञासा आणि प्रबोधन असे बरंच काही देणारा एक कथासंग्रह.

Fantastic read.. all the stories are impressive and literally imbues the underlying principles on mind. I think after this story “Punaraganam” firmly believe in advance human race theory and possibility of them re- returning. Other stories which are extraordinary are - Ujavya sondecha Ganapati and Gangadharpantanche paneepat. Title story is the one which captivates you and makes you not leave the book until finished.

Even though it is a Marathi sci-fi story book, according to me the stories in this book are the best sci-fi stuff i have read so far. The stories have an excellent flow with good characters. Not gonna lie but the concept of inverting time and space which is in trend now was already used in this book years ago. Dr JV Narlikar is a pioneer in science domain and had worked under Stephen Hawking and i guess is the one of the to Indian scientist right now.

First read in undergraduate days. This was pretty exciting even after a steady diet of Asimov and Clarke. lt lead me to seek other Indian language sci-fi.

Jayant Narlikar's science fiction writing is literally a treat to mind. I used to get these books and go through them within a day. अधाशासारखे वाचून काढणे हा प्रकार मला तेव्हा कळाला.
