I’m the daughter of two Jane Austen addicts, who decided to call me after a character from one of Jane Austen’s novels. So it’s no wonder that I also became a passionate Jane Austen fan.

Elizabeth Aston is a pen name (it's actually my married name). I first wrote under the name Elizabeth Pewsey, and now Attica Books are reissuing those novels as ebooks under my Aston name.

I've also published several books under my own name Elizabeth Edmondson. They're historicals, but set in the 20th century.

As I've said before, Aston is really good at carrying the story of the Darcy's forward in a way that stays true to the original PandP. This book was no less well done. The characters were great, the plot moved along nicely, I love that Mr. Darcy is now part of the international ring that deals with spies between France and England...totally perfect for him. I only wish that Lizzie had made an appearance in this book. Otherwise, very well done.

Anna Gosforth is hoping to find love in her first London season but these are dangerous times and all the men seem to be more concerned with the danger of an invasion by Napoleon. Her father keeps having meetings with Mr Darcy who is working for the government and with the mysterious Mr Vere. Then Anna sees the handsome Mr Standish across a crowded room and falls in love in spite of everyone warning her against him.

This is an entertaining novella which shows how difficult it was for women to be taken seriously in the early nineteenth century though Anna manages to get sensible answers to her questions by sheer persistence. The story is well written and interesting with a cameo appearance by a believable Mr Darcy. I liked Anna and her family and thought they were interesting characters. Read the story for its own sake or for its connection to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice – either way it is an enjoyable read.

This was a cute novella. While reading it I kept thinking, "what the heck does this have to do with Mr. Darcy?" I eventually figured out that Mr. Darcy works in the War Office and the story is about one of his operatives. I understand that there are a series of these books and this is not the first one, hence the confusion.

I got it as a Kindle freebie so no complaints here.

Disappointing and forgettable. The characters weren't as full or interesting as in her other novels. I would not read it again, whereas there are many other novels by Elizabeth Aston that I have re-read.
