WOW....ok...intense and dark and a little surprising; I'll even throw in the phrase a little disturbing. I can honestly say, I thought this would be your typical watered down blackmail concept with a few sex scenes, as I was caught off guard on how dark and intense it got for a novella. I do love my blackmail concept story-lines like fine wine, and this was your typical story line. Kayla took money from the company she works for with every intention of putting it back. The money was used for her daughter's health care and hospital stay. Once she is found out by Gage, CEO and owner, he finally sets into motion events blackmailing Kayla into a master/slave relationship, which includes a choice of blackmail or jail. Ok, sounds a little innocent right, wait until you get to the weekend at Gage's home. It went there.
The moment the story starts, the scene opens up with both parties in Gage's office and he starts to confront Kayla about the money. I'll start with Gage with my thoughts. After finish reading, I'm still not sure of what to think about Gage.He seems to be at a thin line between hero and nemesis. The things he did to Kayla once their weekend blackmail affair began had me a bit worried for Kayla at some point. He still came off Alpha, demanding, jealous and controlling but the author didn't allow you to feel comfortable with his personality not knowing his intentions towards Kayla other than a master/slave blackmailed affair. I don't find any fault with that, it just kept me on my toes personally, because there was no history given about him, so I had no idea where he was coming from and what made him tick. Basically, he seems like a s.o.b most of the times. However, Kayla , I thought she would be the, ok I'll do what you want and not speak up type in this blackmail concept, but she proved a little difficult to deal with which lead to harsh punishments from Gage. With her daughter being in the hospital, survival mode kicked in and this blackmail has her doing things she has conflicts doing because of her past and what she went through with her ex husband.

The way the story is going I really don't know who or what will happen towards the end as this is a three part series.
To the readers, a heads up, dark erotica that contains an intense spanking scene. This isn't light BDSM either and may or may not be graphic for some.

This is the first novelette in The Devil’s Kiss trilogy and tells the story of Kayla Sutton whose daughter is suffering from leukaemia and has stopped responding to conventional drugs and now needs a radical new and experimental treatment to stand any chance of survival. It’s very expensive and, in absolute desperation, Kayla embezzles the money from the accounts of the company she works for.
She’s caught red-handed by her boss Gage Channing who gives her a choice – a prison sentence or a BDSM contract to submit to his every whim and desire. A prison sentence would keep her away from her potentially dying daughter so she agrees to the BDSM contract and submits, albeit unwillingly, to Gage. This sets up the story which is mostly Gage dominating Kayla in his home.
I love these set-ups – they tick all the right boxes for me. Gage is a sadist dom who has recognised the submissive in Kayla that she doesn’t even know is there and is going to take her on a journey. She finds it physically arousing but, emotionally, she manages to remain detached from Gage, even despising him for coercing her in this way.
He is a fairly sadistic master but, so far, the BDSM hasn’t been too hardcore although it is highly erotic and enjoyable. There’s more to this story though – Kayla has been the victim of very violent spousal abuse and carries the physical and emotional scars with her so submitting to bondage and domination is bringing up ugly memories. How Gage responds to this in the second novelette will decide how I feel about him – at the moment, he’s not paying enough attention, as a dom, to his submissive’s emotional needs but he’s not had much of a chance to be fair.
Also, one of the Doctors at her daughter’s hospital is an extremely handsome-ex and he promises to watch out for her daughter when she can’t be around (mostly because she’s restrained in Gage’s dungeon) so it’s kind of hard to tell where the story will lead us next.
Despite the fact that this is very short, this is really quite emotionally intense and definitely very HOT. I really enjoy these erotic e-serials and can’t wait for part deux!!

It was horrible, sick and disgusting. I hated it. The worst novella I ever read and I read some crappy shit over the years. I feel like 1 star is too much for it. If I could give it less I would.

This book was recommended to me by a GR friend. I knew it was dark erotica, and I imagined something like CiTD and SiTD only shorter. Well it's not really like that at all, except it is, but then our Hero in this book is, so far, a total Anti-hero (read Asshole) with no redeeming qualities at all.
The fact that our Heroine, Kayla, has just had the most outstanding orgasm of her life may, just may, be to do with the fact that he's only the third man she's ever fucked, although I suspect that's not the case but I'm reluctant to give him credit for anything.
I must admit that the Smuttertainment factor is high, but is tempered by the fact that our Dom is very selfish and, seemingly, unlikeable.
The book just bloody stops, so I'll have to read the second. Good job I've already bought it.
I'd really like to give this 3.5 Stars, but I'll stretch it to 4 for anticipation.
I'm hoping for better in book 2 but I don't think I'm gonna get it so I suppose I'll have to wait for book 3. Shit!!

This one was really short, not dark, but definitely kinky. I can't really judge how much I like it. I think I will read the next one to find out more.
Kayla got blackmailed by her boss to become his sex slave. In returned he will not turn her in and will even pay for her daughter medical expenses in full. She did had a horrible past with her ex-husband and she was still hung up on her ex-boyfriend.
Gage, the boss was definitely one kinky bastard. He wanted to train Kayla to become his submissive. I still rate it as mild BDSM, nothing I can't handle, yet. I'm looking forward to know more about Gage though. So far, nothing was reveal about him yet.

I didn't like Gage at all. He was such an asshole. There is punishment and then there is punishment. Fifty smacks for talking back. Not soft but hard. Lets not forget the whip, or kneeing on freaking rice. The lack of humanity for others bad situations was disgusting. Her daughter is ill and maybe dying and he doesn't care. What a selfish jerk. I may not be able to finish this series he makes me so mad.

I'm not normally of fan of short more serial fiction (with a few exceptions) but this one is pretty good. Really 3.5 stars but I rounded up. In something this short I don't expect believable - I mean it's fantasy really the whole blackmail thing. IRL many people would just go to the cops - but then you'd have no story right?
So anyway Kayla wasn't too bad - clearly there is more history for her we aren't aware of. Gage was suitably alpha and jerkish but there were moments you could totally see his desire and his need. Of course don't like the method but then again back to the blackmail thing....
The Doctor in the hospital? No idea. Seemed a bit out of character for Kayla - and don't get the two pregnancy thing -- I guess I'm confused on it.
The only part I hated was the whole weekend thing. Having had a child myself in NICU and PICU this didn't really hold well with me whatsoever. I know about experimental treatments and what a parent will do to obtain them -- and so I felt this more emotionally than many might.
It is dark but the BDSM isn't too harsh (so far) and the scenes are very good. Looking forward to part 2!

Who the hell wants to read about sexual blackmail and a sadistic 'it's your choice baby, unless of course you want to go to prison.' Asshole? I swear giving this...thing 1 star feels like a damn betrayal of my self respect.
Christian Grey has nothing on Gage Channing. He's a dominant as well but with far less sexual morals. Yes. Less sexual morals than Mr. Grey. Unfathomable right? Well, just try reading this and you'll see what I mean. Yes, Kayla stole money. Ok, a lot of money. In her position, with her daughters medical problems, I'd have done the same. But does that sway or touch Gage at all? Nope. He'd rather just coerce her into being his damn slave and hang that 'you can choose to end it anytime, but then I'm calling the police' horseshit. Shitty shitty horseshit. I don't give a flying rats butt in hell if this is supposed to be some feminine strength story, or just a twisted estrogen power trip. It's disgusting. BDSM stories often have a sweet and touching element of trust between the D and the s. There was none of that here, just blackmail and torture.

I don't usually drop a book off the bat, but something from the first page didn't work for me. I'm used to fast love and quick reads, but this was like super fast...and the story, kinda felt the same as something I just recently read. Everything happened so quickly, in the 6% we saw his plan, his demand and her choice... I may pick it back up later on, but I'm putting it aside for now.

maybe i need to read the second book as well this one didnt reach out and grab me. I wonder if the Dom is as uncaring as He protrays Himself.. helping the slave in her situation..leaves one to wonder.. :)

I didn't think it possible, but it is. I have finally found the ultimate anti-hero, and his name is Gage Channing. Ultimatum by Gemma James is a novelette that can easily be read on your lunch hour, not only because it is a novelette, but because you won't put it down. I haven't read a book with this calibur of evil in a master since...ever!
Gage Channing is a successful businessman who has had his eye on his employee, Kayla Sutton, for a while. But Gage isn't interested in Kayla romantically. She is a conquest for him in some ways. He wants her as his slave and will resort to any means to achieve his goal. This man is beyond cruel. He is pure evil. He IS the Devil in the series title, The Devil's Kiss. *shiver* He is a jealous master and will not under any circumstances share what he deems to be his own....and he plans to claim Kayla as such.
Kayla Sutton is a sweet woman who has been on the receiving end of all the bad Karma life has to offer. With a history of physical abuse, a child at death's door, and medical bills piling up, she is desperate to see to the medical care for her daughter, Eve. Unfortunately, Kayla can't afford the necessary care to prolong her daughter's life, so she decides to embezzle thousands of dollars from her handsome employer, Gage. Her problems continue to mount when she is caught for embezzling and is given a choice ..... a choice that is really no choice at all. Kayla cannot risk going to jail and being separated from her young daughter, so she reluctantly signs a contract with her boss, Gage Channing, to bend to his will. He kissed like he smiled -- with a devilish edge that was too tempting to ignore. He delved deeper, and I lost my mind as he thoroughly possessed my mouth. For a few blissful minutes, I forgot how he'd forced me there, forgot about the beating, the humiliation. For the first time in years, I felt alive.
Gemma James has written an erotic novel with BDSM themes that will have you glued to the pages. While there isn't really a huge build from the beginning that will grab your attention, as you read past the first chapter, you will be hooked and will continue to read...and cringe....the remainder of the book. Ultimatum is a good story packed in a few words with a strong heroine and an anti-hero you will easily hate. Ultimatum doesn't end on a cliffhanger, so to speak, yet it is not really a completed story, either. It is just enough that will have you wanting more of Kayla's story. I have to know what happens with Kayla, Ian and Gage. Will she be free to rekindle a relationship with Ian? Will Eve survive her terminal illness? Will Gage's demeanor soften as a master? I have to know! While this is not completely a romance novelette, I can envision the romance coming in the next installments. I recommend Ultimatum to those who enjoy erotica laced with potential romance and can handle a BDSM theme with physical/mental abuse of a strong heroine.

Ultimatum, for 12,000 words, is a novelette yet so big in bang. I admit I went into it expecting whips and pain and erotic sex scene after scene with no story but…
…stupid me didn’t count on Gemma James planting a seed of a twisted, engrossing story that would take me through this trilogy.
It was a few things that got me hooked in this book. Mother, Kayla and terminally ill daughter, Eve are in a situation to make any person feel heavy and sad. This then is in the forefront of your mind when Kayla—ultimately—has no choice but to start a contract with Gage for cruel, twisted, sex for his own self-pleasing sexual desires because it gives her the money she needs. It’s crazy and Gemma made me squirm exactly how I think she intended me to. She also made me feel the confusing pleasure at times, when after the beating Kayla endured, she received sexual gratification.
Then there was Gage who had my emotions tumbling as if in a dryer. Man, he is a character I’ll never forget. He’s intense—sadistic and sexual, he’s damn intense.
A light read, Ultimatum almost made the coveted 5 stars, but was a tad short to completely satisfy me.

Just love boss/employee stories that deal with blackmail they just hit all the right places. I thought the writing was great and the sex was hot and I'm wishing the second one is already out so I can see what happens next, I'll be watching for it. Very curious how this is going to play out especially with Gage, he's been watching Kayla for awhile around the office but so far he seems kinda emotionality detached although a couple times you do see some emotion where she is concerned. And of course there's Ian who is a boyfriend from the past.
I really didn't think this was so dark like some people thought. Yes he's a sadist and there's punishments Maybe its the way she's forced into this and of course the forced seduction aspect. It is an emotional read with having to deal with her sick daughter and memories from her abusive ex husband. Great story and very erotic.

I wished this book was longer but it's a novella and they always leave me wanting more. What I do like is that they jump right in with 2 feet. It's starts pretty typical with a young hot millionaire (where are they in real life anyways, hmm) and a pretty young lady. That's where typical ends and the roller coaster begins. Gage is hot, young, rich but a sadistic bastard. He wants Kayla so when he has the goods to blackmail her he jumps at the chance. She can avoid going to jail if she submits to Gage in every way and I mean every way . There's no negotiations here, take it or leave it. So what do you do if your desperate ? You probably do what Kayla does, but at what cost? Can you put a price tag on self worth? Gage makes Christian Grey seem like a choir boy (believe me i love CG) So if you thought 50 was too much, well then this isn't for you. When Kayla realizes she has no other choice , well lets just say, let the games begin........

It was hard to really get into this since it was so short. I am not sure if Gage's character will win me over - he was so harsh and since there was not more time to show any compassion from him towards Kayla I just got a creepy vibe from him.
The idea of her being forced into a BDSM relationship for a period of time with her hot boss has some potential for an interesting story. I know I will give the second part a chance to see if this can progress further, mostly just to get the whole rape-y feeling to go away. A disturbing BDSM...DARK would be another way to describe it too. This is only Part 1 of 3, it ended by Gage (the master) telling Kayla (the slave) to do all the things he had written down in a journal or else, before she left his house, making you want to move on to book 2 to find out what those things are. At this stage though I am not sure if I will move on to the next book as I am having trouble dealing with Gage's attitude/character. In most cases, you know the main characters will end up together, however hard to say what will happen towards the end of book 3.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one. While the sex was definitely steamy, there are A LOT of unresolved issues in Kayla's life that seem pretty darn big right now. The biggest one being that her boss is kinda skeevy forcing her to accept all this when she's clearly been abused in the past. I can only assume that book 2 allows for some resolution on that front.

Now I have read some BDSM books but this one whoa!
Gage well he is just an asshole but I think there is something underlining about him that I just hope redeems him. He has wanted Kayla for a long time and now that he has her he is just seems to take it to the next level and I don't me in a good way. I am hoping as the story goes on his shell will crack and he will show a softer side. Lot's of hot steamy sex. Cliff hanger ending so have book 2 Enslaved ready to go.

The concept of this is interesting. Then I read the first book. So, here's my problem. This is a bdsm hostile book because of the way BDSM is portrayed in a romantic type story. This crossing of the line doesn't do it for me. Either be a non-con or not. But mixing it in this manner just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Gage is not a dominant. He's an abusive beater. Fucked up. 2.5 stars. Can't say I actually enjoyed it, but it was better than okay.

O My God! I not sure that i expect to read this not in million years. I mean, i've read erotic books, but this is crazy. Crazy in the good way... i think. I`m glad that is a short story, because i don`t think that i could take it any more.
It is a different story, that it`s true. And i have to say, if it is so manic this story i really like it.

Really not my cup of tea read all three books in an hour to see if the other books improved. The initial storyline sounded good but it just didnt capitalise for me.

What is this book about?
The book is about a mother (Kayla) that has embezzled money from the company she worked for in order to provide a life saving treatment for her daughter. Her Boss Gage always had his sights set on Kayla and given that Kayla was stealing from him gave him the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the situation by making Kayla his slave.
My Rant:
This book was dark, short and sweet. I liked the fact that the author got straight to the point of the story by setting the stage early. The story starts out with Gage informing Kayla that he found out that she was stealing from him and he was offering her an ultimatum.
Kayla: Do I have a Choice?
Gage: Of course, just as you have the option of backing out of our agreement whenever you wish. That’s the beauty of this the choice is yours”
Wow. Not only was Gage confident and sexy he was also a smug SOB. At first I hated Gage for taking advantage of Kayla. How could he do that to her I was furious. I know she stole the money but she had a good dang reason too. I thought to myself, would I do the same thing if I were in Kayla position, probably if there was a chance to save my child.
The author begins to display more of Kayla past and explores more of her pain in order to paint the picture of Kayla’s character. Her past has broken her in ways that are unexplainable and now when she feel she has overcome them she is bought back to face the issues when she submits to his Ultimatum. These old feelings are rehashed and I begin to despise Gage more.
But as the story goes on Kayla character begins to change and while that change is taking place I began to see the characters differently as they are developing.
Kayla: For a few blissful minutes, I forgot how he’d forced me there, forgot about the beating, the humiliation, for the first time in years, I felt Alive.
I am falling head over heals in love with Gage. I’m so pathetic, I know but you can’t help it. Gage is sexy, strong and in control, that is all the qualities I need in an apha male and if that doesn’t do it for you the steamy scenes in the book will. The ending leaves you drooling and wanting to know more because the book ends after the first weekend encounter.
My Rating and Recommendation:
Overall I completely enjoyed reading the ultimatum. I rated this book 4 out 5 Purple Rant Hearts. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys short Dark Erotica story.

Kayla Sutton is a mother of a three year old daughter, Eve. Eve is the hospital with a life threating disease. Kayla having run out of money embellezes money from her job. When her boss Cage Channing discovers what she has done he decides to blackmail her. You see Cage has had his eye on Kayla for a long time. Cage wants Kayla for his own little play toy. So Cage makes a deal with Kayla if she will become his slave then he will make what she did disappear and he will not call the police.
Well Kayla is in a predicament when she finds out what it is he wants her to do for him. But what is a mother to do? What would any mother that loved her little girl do to save her life? How far would that mother go? What mother would not steal money to save her daughter's life? I have never had children of my own but I would or I honestly believe I would do exactly what Kayla did for her daughter. What kind of mother would she be if she said no to Cage and went to prison? What would have happened to Eve? She would have been put in an orphanage.
Yes, Cage is a very cruel man for what he did to Kayla but at the same time he saved her from going to prison and she could keep and be with her daughter. Kayla may have not completely understood what she was signing she still knew what she was getting herself into. Besides I really don't think she gave it much thought as to what she would actually be doing. All she was thinking about was her daughter in the same way she was thinking about her when she stole the money. Eve was all that matter she, Kayla didn't matter in the least.
Well so Cage was wrong. He gave Kayla a choice she made her own decision and she did it for her daughter. Cage may have did a lot of things that Kayla never wanted to do or would have done if the circumstances had been different she still made her choice he never forced her.
If you like a good mystery and a page turner then I think you would like Ultimatum. I will give you fair warning there is a lot of sex like BDSM. So if you are not into this kind of story or if you are under 18 then maybe you shouldn't read Ultimatum.
