Dragon Knights #1.5

The Dragon Healer

Rate this book
What's better than a knight sweeping you off your feet? Two knights.

Silla is a healer riding circuit on the border, helping those in need. When she hears the pained cries of a dragon in distress, she comes to his aid, using most of her precious supplies to help the badly injured creature.

The dragon's knight, Brodie, is fascinated by the woman the miracle worker who has come to help his friend. She is both beautiful and kind hearted and he quickly realizes she is his destined mate. And if she is Brodie's mate, she is Geoff's as well, for Brodie's dragon was mated to Geoff's dragon many years ago.

Geoff doesn't believe in the tales of love at first sight among knights, but he knows that when either he or Brodie finds a wife, they will share her. Hearing about the dragon's injury, Geoff and his dragon race to help, only to find the dragon on the mend and Brodie in bed with the most stunning woman Geoff has ever seen.

Love at first sight turns out to be real and it strikes them all as they come together and realize that no matter what the obstacles, they are meant to be together. Silla is the missing link that will join their lives and make them a true Lair family.

Warning: Knights like to get frisky and these two are no exception. Beware the passion, playfulness, a bit of bondage and a whole lot of three-way loving with a tiny bit of exhibitionism thrown in for good measure.

Ya well...it was more of the same...I'm just not really invested...ok I am a little because I clearly keep reading these things but the smut is pretty repetitive.

Silla is a journeyman healer. Her life is on the road. She hopes that in another five years she will have accumulated enough experience credit with the healer's guild to allow her to return to the city to practice her craft in a little more comfort than the wagon she currently drives around the countryside.

Fate has other plans.

At her next stop, she finds herself treating an injured dragon instead of her more usual human patient. It doesn't matter to her, the dragon needs healing and she is a healer. She works through the night, using up most of her supply of healing herbs, to bring ease to the wounded creature. Working with her is the dragon's knight, Brodie, helping her at every step to save his companion.

As they strive together, Brodie becomes certain that Silla is his destined mate. She is not only healing his friend, she is talking with him, soothing him. That mind-talk is the sign of a woman who is born to be part of a lair.

Silla may be more than willing to heal the dragon, but she doesn't trust Brodie, or any other man. She's been down that road before, and it only ended in pain. But after a night working beside him, watching him with the dragon, she feels like she deserves something for herself, just once.

Once the dragon is out of danger, Silla and Brodie spend what remains of the night together. And wake to find another man in the room.

Geoff is the knight to Brodie's dragon Phelan's mate. If Brodie has found a mate, then their dragons can mate again. Only the dragons of mated knights can mate. Brodie and Geoff's dragons have been waiting for decades.

But Silla, who thought to indulge herself for a night and then be on her way, is suddenly faced with the choice of lifetime. Should she leave her life behind and go with Brodie and Geoff to the lair? Can she trust them? Can she love them? Can they love her? Should she try?

Can she make a better life for herself this time?

Escape Rating B-: This story was more of a single piece than Maiden Flight, but it was very short. Also, I was disappointed because I wanted the next story to be Adora and Jaden's story and this wasn't. (That story turned out to be in Border Lair.)

I liked Silla better than Belora in Maiden Flight. She was more in control of her own life. She'd initially made a bad choice, but after a lot of hard times, had dusted herself and made a new life for herself. It made it difficult for her to trust Brodie or her own decisions about men, but that wasn't unreasonable under the circumstances.

However, because Silla was so distrusting of men, it was kind of surprising that she would be willing to change so easily from a completely celibate life to a menage. Brodie was her first foray back into sexuality in a very long time. While it was much more successful (and hot!) than anything in her previous experience, she accepts the drastic change in her life incredibly easily.

THE DRAGON HEALER is a novella set in the Dragon Knights world. This book fits in between the first and the second book. Silla is a dragon healer who hears the pained cries of someone in need. Going off to find the source of torment, she finds a dragon and its knight.

Brodie finds something alluring about Silla the healer. Since the book is very very short, all of their chemistry starts off at a very fast paced. Furthermore, since Brodie’s dragon is mated to another dragon, Geoff is also connected to their potent lust.

Usually, I would enjoy the threesomes that occur in this series, but because of the length of this novella, I found that everything was extremely rushed and I didn’t have enough time to get to know the characters. Overall, it’s a very sweet and steamy story, but I don’t think it represents the vastness that D’Arc further explores in the full length books. It’s a taste of what the world and character are like, but doesn’t further delve deeper into that.

Though THE DRAGON HEALER isn’t my favorite of the series, it is a taste of what to expect in the world that D’Arc has created.

i enjoyed this, although it does move really fast from meeting to sex!

dragons have knights. knights and dragons are bonded and share a great deal. when dragons pair for mating, they cannot join fully til their knights have found a mate too. since there are few women who can be around dragons or hear them, each pair of knights will share a single wife.

enter lots of multi partner sex.

there is an under story, but it doesnt hold up much as i've gone on to read all the others in this series.

not a bad, short story. they could have been made longer, developing the story, as opposed to all the sex!

unfortunately, most of the books will get the same thing!

Bianca D'Arc does it again! When it comes to wonderful stories, even novellas, about dragons, her Dragon Knights series hits the mark every time. This short story, that fits in between her Dragon Knights series, will make you want to read the rest. Silla is a traveling healer who happens to end up in the right place when Phelan is injured from a skith attack. She heals Phelan while falling in love with his knight, Brodie, and his other half Geoff. While quick, this novella is a must read for all fans of Ms. D'Arc's.

Heather's Notes
This synopsis is almost as long as the book. There is nothing really to add. It was a good story, but short. There was not any real exhibitionist except between the two guys and girl.

Silla’s story.

Silla is mentioned as the Lair’s healer in book one and this is her origin story, if you will.

How she came upon a skith burned dragon and his knight partner. And since knights know their fated mate on sight this is how Silla met her dragon knights.

A very fast paced, insta love mfm fated mates, romantic fantasy.

Told in multiple povs in third person

Characters-

Silla - female journeyman healer from the High Temple of Our Lady of Light

Sir Broderick - aka Brodie
Phelan - metallic bronze dragon, member of the Dragon Council and king’s trusted advisor on military matters

Sir Geoff
Qwila - deep blue almost purple dragon

Steam - insta love and very hot

Dragons are Phelan and Qwila. Silla is a healer, she meets Brodie when Phelan is severely injured. She has had terrible experience in her previous marriage and finds it hard to believe but Brodie and Geoff and the dragons all help her to believe. If one can accept the almost instant knowing/falling in love that the Knights do and the intensity of their sexual attraction, it's a good read.

I love this series. The characters are just ... people. There stories are like catching up on what's happening at home while you were away.

I just wish this one had been a bit ... more.

Quick entertaining read. I skimmed several parts that didn't seem to improve the story. This book gave a little more insight on the partnering of dragon mates and their spouse. 2.5 stars

Loved it!

It was intriguing to me how the healer worked. Both her knowledge of plants as well as her professionalism. Her knowledge of dragon tradition was a learning curve.

*Please Note:* This NOVELLA is set at the very beginning of the *Dragon Knights* series. It will be put into print alongside the first novel in the series, **Maiden Flight**, in September 2013.

*What's better than a knight sweeping you off your feet? Two knights. *

Not bad, not bad at all.

Different from the previous one. It was not about a woman with magical powers and blue blood. It was about a woman who overcame a terrible situation and became a important healer and sometimes the only home for people with not enough money to get medicine or help. All by herself and by her studies and preparation.

That is someone I like to read about.

I really like the books I've read so far and based on that I highly recommend this series. This book in particular I really enjoyed because of the female MC. She is such a strong woman, which I loved reading about.

I have an old version of this book. I also have it in the Dragon Knights Anthology Volume 1+ (just so I don't forget where it is.) lol

This series as a whole just keeps ALMOST delivering for me. I don't quite know how to explain it, but thus far it's kinda...I keep ALMOST enjoying it if that makes any sense? IDEK. D'Arc has the skills, the worldbuilding is interesting, and the plots have potential...then it all sort of fizzles with me.

Yet again with this series, I enjoyed this story without initially expecting to. Since the female lead in this short story was barely mentioned by name in the first book, I thought it would be pointless fluff.

Yay for me that I was wrong, and I enjoyed this story as much as the first one! 

Good story - just too short. Good back story which is hard for author to do which it seems that Bianca D'Arc is a master of.
